Salute The Underdog…

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

Just before the Knicks season totally hits the skids Coach Mike D’Antoni reached out one last desperate time.

You know dude was desperate since he was tabbing the end of the bench for the undrafted Ivy league point guard Jeremy Lin.

Lin usually makes his appearances when the games are pretty much already in the loss column for the Knicks, but not lastnite… Instead he carried the Knicks above the threshold of absolute mediocrity the Nets are mired in. With his points, assists and rebounds Lin might just have put himself in the starting line up?

The good people at Foot Locker are calling February the #HottestMonthEver. To celebrate this Foot Locker got the Knicks to loan them some time on the hallowed hardwood of Madison Square Garden for the bloggerati to shoot a few hoops..

The same floor where Larry ‘Granmama’ Johnson made an impossible four(4) point play. The same floor that John Starks dunked on Michael Jordan and the whole Bulls team. The same floor where Willis Reed earned his ‘chip.

The whole point was to test drive some of the models available at the premiere footwear dealership. LeBron 9s, Kobe 7 Supremes, Rose adiZero 2s were just some of the shoes you could test drive on your way to the hoop.

After the scrimmage Foot Locker treated us to preview all the styles that are dropping in the month of February.

In the most wintry of months you can see that Foot Locker will be bringing the HEAT.

Houston beat fire out of the Knicks yesterday with a stellar performance from a volleyball player. That’s right. Houston reserve Chase Budinger scored 19 points on 7 for 12 shooting. Budinger could might as well be a professional surfer with the way the Knicks are playing defense right now. The Houston Rockets were without their leading scorer and playmaker Kevin Martin yet they still handed the Knicks their eighth loss in nine games.

The Knicks finished off their road trip skidding to a halt. While Carmelo Anthony nursed his injured ankle and wrists Amar’e Stoudemire was mired deep in a performance quandary. Who are these Knickerbockers anyhoo? When did they become so enamored with the three point shot? This almost reminds me of the ill-fated Pitino era at MSG. But at least Pitino could instruct his players on how to execute a half-court trap.

The D’Antoni led Knicks are uninspired to extend their defense past arms length. And now even the teams offense has left them lonely. I was absolutely convinced several weeks ago when I personally watched the Knicks lackluster home court efforts that Mike D’Antoni would not be coaching this team into Black History month. Well, I’ve still got two(2) days left to dream I guess?

The saga of Dontrevius Wenters lives on as Terrence and I had a chance to bring Dontrevius into Madison Square Garden, but this time with a media credential.

Dontrevius walked on the hallowed hardwood and kicked it with fans and Knicks legends alike.
