Jokes On You Ben…

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

Ben Roethlisberger can put his beer goggles back on now that the Pittsburgh Steelers off season has begun.

Do you think the Patriots were salivating at the possibility of seeing Tebow come thru the Gillette?

Just be careful what you ask for when you are facing God’s son.

Taking Care Of Business…

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

All is well back in MSGland after the Knicks manhandled [ll] the already emaciated Detroit Pistons team. The Knicks were supposed to beat Detroit handily, but then again the Knicks were supposed to control the Wizards, Bobcats and Raptors as well.

What was the difference then against the Pistons? Could it have been Iman Shumpert’s first start of the season? I’ve been pitching Shumpert to be the Knicks 6th man so that he gives his skillsets (scoring, defense, overall energy) to the Knickbocker’s reserves. Our bench is paper thin right now for a dependable player who can post points and play some shutdown ‘D’ on another teams scorer.

The ‘D’ in D’Antoni right now must stand for desperate if he is starting Shumpert over Douglas. I can’t blame Mike either because the Kings dismissed their coach, Paul Westphal, after only 7 games. If D’Antoni wants to avoid the same fate he better inspire some more defensive effort from his troops.

There’s No ‘D’ In D’Antoni…

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Peep Carmelo’s expression. A portrait of befuddlement.

From Leandro Barbosa in Toronto to Boris Diaw, now with the Charlotte club, we are watching Mike D’Antoni’s former charges from the desert leave him high and dry as the Knicks coach. The countdown to his coaching tenure is ringing like an alarm clock and the Knicks management dare not hit the snooze button again.

The team was summarily smoked by the Charlotte Bobcats on the MSG floor lastnite. It wouldn’t have felt as bad had I watched the contest on television so that maybe the Garden crowd’s discontent might could have been filtered away from my ears. Instead I sat in the stands courtesy of some generous Swedish internets.

“We Want Shumpert! We Want Shumpert!”

When this cheer broke out late in the 3rd quarter you could understand the desperation of the MSG attendees for something, anything, yet still nothing came forward. The Knicks were uninspired to play and maybe that is even wishful thinking. Maybe these Knicks are incapable of playing at a middling mediocre level?

There were sloppy turnovers and far too many three point shots. Amar’e had too many three point shot attempts by himself. Shots seemingly thrown at the rim on a line with no arc or rotation and then long rebounds leading to Bobcat breaks which no one was particularly interested in defending. Who are THESE Knicks?

These Knicks are Mike D’Antoni’s creation of a longshot to contend in the East. And of late the longshot has looked like NO SHOT. Under 35% from downtown and less than 10 foul shots from your superstar battery will doom any team. So I’m not saying we should change D’Antoni because the teams shots have been clanging off the rim.

We should remove D’Antoni because these Knicks don’t respect the value of being a good defensive team. This is OUR legacy as a basketball team. Not Showtime or Run-n-Gun basketball. For disrespecting the everlasting heritage of the New Yorks Knicks defense Mike D’Antoni must go.

Tebow No Mo’…

My Cowboys get dumped for the season and Touchdown Jesus falls upward and into the NFL playoffs. Is there no justice in pro sports? I’m just happy to be looking to basketball for the next six months.

The Lakers Of The Politricks Game…

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

Politricks are a game much like any of the professional sporting contests we watch. Politricks are certainly just as fixed as pro sports are. Consider the supreme court judges as the refs. Them dudes are supposed to be impartial, but everyone still has a boss they have to obey. Dollar, dollar bill y’all.

Kobe and Obama are both reviled mostly due to the nostalgia which dominates most American mindsets. Everyone thinks the shit that happened yesteryear was way better than anything happening today. Also, this is still America and we are unapologetically racist at our core. Its. What. We. Do.

Rahm Emanuel left the Obama cabinet to do his own thing and I thought of a corollary to the recently departed Phil Jackson from the Lakers’ camp. Can Kobe Bryant get back to the promised land without his guru? Will Obama make it back to the White House without Rahm cleaning up his messes?

The competition in the NBA right now seems a lot more formidable than the comp being posted by the Republican party, but I wouldn’t downplay the possibility of some Manchurian October surprise. This is just entertainment after all and I’m part of the rapt audience.
