Stewart is not the worst comedian working, just the most overrated. He’s not funny at all. Never was. The writing on the Daily Show can be good, but a lot of the shit writes itself.
I think it’s weak that what people try to paint as the American progressive Bible has no room for black people, except in February.
The American pogressive Bible was written by Black folks everyday who manage to live, ne thrive through systemic institutionalized supremacy.
It’s too bad for us that when we always look for a kindred spirit we find that folks would want to be anybody in the world, except for us. John Stewart would pray to his dollar bill savior to be a handicapped Palestinian before being a Black. Real talk.
I saw Willmore’s lead up to Feb. and some people thought he was wrong…but I felt him. I had a discussion with my boss who was raised in St. Thomas. While she talked about all the different people they learned about during black history month, I told her I never liked it cause you can only write so many papers and poems about MLK, Rosa Parks and so forth. I didn’t learn anything substantial about black history until high school when I started looking myself. The main problem is there shouldn’t be a month. This whole countries development corresponds with black people…we can’t (in a logical world) discuss anything historic in America without talking about the role of blacks. Then to have a month to deal with it and only rehash the “safe” people and even then not really touch on their depth is just sad…it’s like the Movie Crash actually.

@ dallas- agreed. hell a pretty good chunk of black people would rather not be black. they’d rather be something ‘easier’. i can’t fault any one outsider for seeing the shitty niche in society to which we’ve been relegated en masse and being thankful it’s not them. i can fault them for ignoring it, or marginalizing the effects.
i can also fault us for not being more proactive in turning the tide, in pulling it together. i guess i hold us to a higher standard because we’re the group that feels the brunt of this situation.
the main reason why i love being black is because i love the challenge that designation brings me. i love the strength of our character and the color with which we paint the lives of everyone we come in contact with. plus black people are the most beautiful people i’ve ever seen in my life. i’d be one of ‘those’ people if i weren’t so blessed to be black myself.
