Wu-Massacre: I’m Copping The Vinyl…

wu massacre

I’m not copping the vinyl issue of the Wu-Massacre for the same reason I bought Gil Scott-Heron’s album. The cover art for Wu-Massacre was done by Marvel Comics’ artist Chris Bachalo and is a long time coming for the Wu-Tang Clan. I take that back. Bill Sienkewicz merc’ked that Bobby Digital cover, but the Wu-Tang comes from the era of Frank Miller and Klaus Janson’s Daredevil and Ronin artwork. These artists should have been expressed graphically in this manner a loooong time ago. Still and all, Sean Price ‘Monkey Barz‘ cover is the G.O.A.T. comic art album cover.

I’ve been reading so many reviews that have put this collaborative project in the gutter. Not the good rap gutter tho’ which is sometimes referred to as gully. The critics have put this album in the same gutter where you put your basura. Wu-Massacre is not bad at all, but people’s Wu-Tang expectations are constantly in a place that means if the album is not a part 10 of the 36 Chambers then the album is a fail. That shouldn’t be the case. The Wu is till making great music. The fans, if you could call them that, are in another place right now. It doesn’t help the Wu either that they seem to be at odds with their fans as well as their founder.

Wu-Massacre‘ feels like it is only a bit longer in runtime than Gil Scott Heron’s new album. What is the deal with these new EP albums? I guess if people aren’t going to pay for their music anymore it doesn’t make sense to give them a full length LP. It does figure that my favorite track was RZA produced. Wu-Tang is forever bitches and this concludes my #Musix Monday drops.

i saw the cd at the record store the other day and was very close to copping it, but these days if its worth getting, its gotta be on vinyl, the album art is dope, i think the last wu album was hit and miss so maybe the EP idea is a good one, hopefully all bangers, less filler

    WARNING:
Buyer be ware. Meth, Ghost and probably Rae are not really happy with the end project. They stated the regular industry- Read: Def Jam – evils . . . the project was rushed, there’s lack of promotion, blah, blah, blah. Then they went on to say, if they had more time to do this, to do that but that’s kind of sad because at this point in their respective careers, especially Rae, you have to figure that some times you only get one shot.

Be grateful if the fans are any where near forgiving in your future endeavors.

Yeah this is on auto-copp status. Seems the only qualm people have that I’ve heard and seen is it’s only 30 mns long. That ‘Our Dreams’ would have been heavy radio rotation 5-10 years ago.

  4. cover is cracks!!!!!

    sean p cover ill too….

I think my all time favorite is this one tho’ -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf6MdR-zSxA&feature=related

I’m not certain why people go in so hard on this joint. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg seems to be under the line of fire with his bum ass albums. I’ll take this Wu ep over that Drake gahbij, any day… and Lil Bow Weezy’s soon to be release double CD!?!?!FOH. That right there is an accident waiting to happen. They want a OB4CL 1.5 so bad it’s ridiculous. To me, this is a solid album, and that Meth Vs Chef II is e p i c.

  6. getthesenets says:

    Snoop was never a lyricist….

  7. BowWow double CD?!?!?!

    Ugh.

Unless one of them is the sound effects of his Twitter car crash, he’s an idiot. I’d rather hear 45 minutes of moose mating calls.

  8. Snoop is my dude, but he’s the laziest rapper ever. Unless you count the 69 Boys or Lil Jon as “rappers.”

  9. ddconyers says:

another sceen stealing verse by I.N.S the Rebel.

  10. hl says:

@VEe! you have to actually hear this project though. I’m not sure why they weren’t happy with it, but its really really good. Short with no filler IMO.

  11. the_dallas says:

Deck might be the most lyrical in the Wu. I’m starting to finally realize Deck’s consistency

  12. getthesenets says:

Deck is the most versatile member of Wu….

You could literally see him making a decent record with ANY of the other members and fitting into their chamber.

It’s funny…just like any large crew..wu has cliques…. I never saw meth or deck as fitting into of the cliques……

    rae/ghost/u/cappa

    gza/rza/dirt

    gza/masta kil

    ======================

I have all the early wu rap magazine features….and I respected the fact that Meth and them were upfront about collecting comics..

People used to look at you like you were a herb when you were a comic head.Years later these are the people running to go see X Men when the movie opened.

Speaking of comics..there’s an old rap pages article with illustrations of the wu members as comic book characters. The drawing of meth was borderline fruity and masta killa ended up stepping to a writer(unrelated) from that magazine over that…

  13. $yk says:

    rae/ghost/cap/masta/u

    rae/ghost/meth

    rza/ghost/gza/odb

    masta/gza/deck

    gza/priest/masta/60

But Rae and Ghost were saying they wish they could’ve given Deck more burn on the CD. dP you just chopped it up w/Deck (II) you didn’t get a Manifesto copy?

  14. getthesenets says:

I saw Meth as the little brother character when Wu blew up……..he just happened to be the one with the single that blew them up….

rae/ghost/u seemed like they were ones who were street dudes……cappa fit into that

    gza/rza/dirt were cousins..and godbody

gza/killah priest/gza seemed like they were the readers/students in the crew

    gza/mk were like teacher student

On the film”the show” and on album skits ….they were screaming on Meth in the early days…ghost and u god screamed on him on the bus in the show….

Meth and Deck always seemed apart from the other dudes for some reasons…

  15. $yk says:

The god Jamel Irief is a (masta) builder get, not student. I gotta correct you on that, this is fact.

But we can all see the divisions in the Clan. The fly, the builders, the live, the calm, the family.

I ain’t forget how Deck went in on Budden last year (nh).

  16. getthesenets says:

the high chief……ok thanks for the correction…..$yk

he seemed like a younger associate of the Genius….age difference made me view him as a student

image of them in “Triumph” in outer space watching the earth is the ILLEST image….second illest is in the same video….how the rest of the clan is standing back in awe as the Genius raps…giving him mad respect like he’s dropping PhD level gems…

I actually expected a better record from Deck….

  17. $yk says:

how the rest of the clan is standing back in awe as the Genius raps…giving him mad respect like he’s dropping PhD level gems…

^ did u mean masta? the population was watching him on the w too…and his verse was deeper than gza’s…poor u-god, no love (Black Shampoo was it).

    I didn’t see Deck’s album…I’m liking the ‘Massacre’ CD.

  18. getthesenets says:

never liked MK or U……MK had a decent flow that was a change of pace on the songs he appeared on……….

The Genius verse(s)….half long and twice as strong ……there’s a 2 second clip in Triumph where the clan is in the back just in awe of Gza…..shit is hard as hell..

by the way……the second group album was just too long……I guess they got more money for a double album and higher record sales….but had they trimmed about 33% of the filler it might have been the best album ever or in the conversation……..seriously…..

    ===============

    I meant I didn’t like Deck’s diss record to Buddens…….I expected a sharper sword…

  19. $yk says:

It was kinda all over the place, WTF, (II), but it had the umpteen bangers on it. I can see why they doubled up.

“The Genius verse(s)….half long and twice as strong”

^ if you know 120 that’s not true. Speaking on ‘Triumph’.

Most people don’t like MK but ‘No Said Date’ is a madly slept on Wu project BTW.

  20. getthesenets says:

    $yk,

never studied 5% lessons..know enough to discuss the history of it…but not the lessons..couple of people I knew threw the “lingo” around but didn’t know anything about it(they thought it sounded cool to be able to claim, but when I asked basic questions..i could tell they were “perpetrating”…..ahahaha remember when people used to perpetrate?

read a book about it and realized that a good 10% of the rap lyrics had gone over my head.or that I only got the literal meaning of them ……

first music I listened to after reading the book were the first 2 wu tang group albums…..ruler zigzag allah

But $yk, why is that Genius verse inaccurate….?

  21. $yk says:

not inaccurate, just not heavier than MK’s (n).

  22. getthesenets says:

    thanks…

    love rza..hate envy
