Lose Your Head At The Movies…

hostel

Q.T. is on fire again. With his ‘Grindhouse’ collabo with ROBERT RODRIGUEZ and his exec production for ELI ROTH’s ‘Hostel’ sequel, QUENTIN TARANTINO is making a night out at the movies fun again.

The ‘Hostel’ series of films brings horror flicks back to that HITCHCOCK level of psychodrama and blood spattering malevolence. This is no Freddy the 13th type B-movie gutwork either. This is full frontal nudity being impaled by the cast iron gate in the front yard of your high school. What were the best horror movies you ever saw?

‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ is that classic crack. Great direction by WES CRAVEN and the sickest hippie trip of a storyline.

‘Final Destination’ wasn’t your run-of-the-mill horror flick in that you never see a villain, but it still had fools dying each and every way until Sunday.

’28 Days Later’ reopened the apocalyptic genre for the new generation. ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ for Ritalyn kids.

‘Halloween’ was always one of my favorite horror franchises because JAMIE LEE CURTIS was that skinny piece of white poon that could get it all day long. Rob Zombie is supposed to be remaking the ‘Halloween’ film and I think he might just create something worth watching.

What classic am I missing here? There’s something on the edge of my mind and I can’t think of what it is. I’m such a fucking burnout sometimes. Somebody help me out and no. it isn’t the Friday the 13th franchise.

Update:
Don’t forget the O.G. ‘Alien’ movie with SIGOURNEY WEAVER and ROBERT MOSELY. That shit is still my favorite to this minute.

    SAW,

    Carrie,

    The Exorcist,

    Rosemary’s Baby,

and the Omen I, II & III. I’m not referring to the remake either.

The Alien joints are my all time…I got the geek Alien vs Predator post up now.
    “Game over man, Game over.”

How about Silver Bullet (pre- deus-corey-machina)?
It wasn’t really scary, but Lost Boys was crack.
Once I realized the “zombies” in 28 Days later were track stars I had to go see it.

I just picked up one of my all time faves the other day, “In The Mouth Of Madness.” You can’t forget about the other John Carpenter classics like “Prince of Darkness” or “The Thing” either. I remember seeing “Happy Birthday To Me” at the drive in when I was a kid and that shit freaked me out but I saw it recently and it was weak.

What’s fuckin with “Sleepaway Camp”, son? Nuthin’. One.

Am i the only one that thinks this poster is pretty fucked up? Not to mention this whole torture-porn chapter in horror films?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m down for for some gory, rugged, messed up stuff, whether stylized or realistic, but the wolf creek/hostel type joints aren’t scary for any reason other than a “damn, what if that was me” feeling. Shit, i could wince watching liposuction/surgery footage.

Rosemarys baby, the exorcist, the first 3 George Romero Zombie joints, texas chainsaw, etc. Bring it back!

  13. jai slayer says:

There was a movie called Phantasm, which was ill. The villain was this old dude that would throw these silver balls that had all types of crazy shit attached to them. Once he caught you he stole your soul. Great 80’s movie.

  15. Lion XL says:

Jaws and Exorcist had me pissin the sheets as a kid, but my favorites were the first couple of Hellraisers, along with Night Breed.

ANd I agree Hostel/Saw/etc a little too over the top for me…Saw 1 was OK to see, but then just kept trying to out do the previous one with very little in story concept.

  16. Combat Jack says:

Check out these new joints on DVD:

    The Adandoned

    Shutter (Asian)

Plus, 28 Weeks Later is serious

    The original Japanese Ring (Ringu)

The Gift (directed by Sam Raimi of Spiderman fame)

Night Of The Living Dead (original), my 2nd favorite of all time(Shining is numero uno)

    The Changeling

The Hills Have Eyes (Remake better than original)

    Haute Tension

Yo, I can go on forever, the horror genre is my absolute favorite!!!

    THE THING!

has to be my fave of all time. before david chase thought of ending the sopranos on a cut to black leaving the audience in the dark, the thing ended on a wtf note with keith david and kurt russell freezing in the snow, unsure which one of them was in fact “the thing.” no cgi, just some of the best special effects that still hold up today. shit is wayyyy better than eli roth and snuff porn horror.

  18. ooh…Hostel looks good..I didnt even catch part 1!….Friday the 13th and all the jason & freddy movies are classic!

  19. You are trippin DP, the Friday the 13th movies are classic soft porn with a killer on top.

And the first ALIEN is STILL in my top 5 of all time. Ya gotta love the young Sigorney hoppin in the space suit on the quiet tip in the low cut panties. Mucho Gusto.
