Tears Of A Scorer Fading Away…

Force MD’s – ‘Tears’

Allen Iverson’s return to the Association in his original home in Philly was underwhelming. His timing was off and his energy was diminished due to his lack of, er, practice. Oh what sweet irony must taste like. Iverson will eventually regain the timing to play at the level that his body can sustain but will that be adequate for him to remain in Philadelphia? I wish Iverson was using this time as a tryout for Cleveland and, or Boston.

11pts for 38 minutes is not how I want to remember Allen Iverson.

iverson

On another Iverson note… Tim Donaghy, the disgraced NBA referee said in his new book ‘Personal Foul’ that players like Iverson, Rasheed Wallace and Ron Artest were targets of the refs for personal discipline that the Association had not meted on these players. Donaghy is successfully putting the league’s officiating on blast.

Is it possible that these games are no longer competitions but simply exhibitions?

I bet what Donaghy sayin is true. @ least partly. Joey Crawford def seems like the kinda chump who would partake in some shit like this. Remember the T he called on Duncan for laughin when he was on the bench? Prolly some gitback for Duncan always whinin and complaining about non-calls

  2. Mark Dub says:

DP, I thought that Iverson would be a great fit [ll] in Cleveland or Boston. Hell, if he’d take that pride down a notch, and be willing to be a contributor and distributor, he might even get a ring. Still, I don’t see that happening, and he’ll retire ringless. SMH

  3. VEe! says:

I remember a number of games in Portland and Detroit where Rasheed received a technical foul for simply looking at the referee or maybe they just didn’t like his menacing scowl?

@Rob, I remember the Joe Crawford – Tim Duncan technical foul. The craziest call ever.

  4. nerditry says:

@Mark : I would love Iverson in one of those places, completely fuck up the chemistry.

I’ma rename Iverson as Kool Aid because he’s on that Jim Jones with all these stans.

I think it was Mike Wilbon(word to PTI)who made the point that you’d be hard pressed to believe a word out of Tim Donaghy’s mouth. Not only is the man a known liar, but he has a book coming out, which of course he’s hoping will be a best seller. What better way to do that than to drum up even more controversy?

This will certainly get the conspiracy theorist talking…

  6. Amadeo says:

/\ While that is easily true…nothing is so clean it doesn’t have dirt that’s easily exposed. In most sports with penalties you can see a penchant for hitting certain teams/players and letting starts slide with some things.

  7. Enigmatik says:

Iverson’s debut as a rookie Sixer was an L and now his re-intro is chalked up as an L. At least he’s kept it consistent. He can get all the shots in the world, but Philly is gonna be garbage for the time being…but we’ll revisit this in about a month’s worth of games to see what’s up. On a semi-related note – it was interesting that Iverson got thoroughly outplayed by the player he was once traded for (Billups – 31 points, 8 boards, 8 assists and the W).

As for Donaghy…I’m sure there’s a little bit of truth mixed in with his lies. Peep the post that examines whether or not some of his claims are on the level:

    @ Amadeo

True, but Donaghy’s an epic fucking Douche who’s clearly out for himself. I have no doubt that some of what he’s saying is true. The difficulty is in dechipering the truth from his blatant lies. The best that David Stern can do is to keep a closer eye on his refs from this point on, and to make an example of the next guy involved in this kind of fuckery. And again, the conspiracy theorist are going to have a field day every time a call is made against their respective team/player.

I also remember the Joe Crawford – Tim Duncan technical foul. The craziest call ever. that shit had me cracking up duncan didn’t even do nothing. i didn’t see the game but was it like the old sixers game when iverson was there. he passes the ball they pass it back he shoots the ball if he misses he has to run for his own rebound. he is not a young man no more you guys gotta help out hahhaa. on a sidenote clipse not going sell shit they cd’s not even on sale first week i wanted to support so i bought it but come on the snoop joint was 9.99.

    SMH @ Iverson’s whole career.

I remember when he crossed up Mike (Jordan). Shit was sick.

All pro sports are fixed!! Definitely an exhibition!

Remember when he shook the shit outta Tyrone Lue in the corner, game 1 2001 Finals in LA, then hit the jumper and stared down the Laker bench? Classic!!

    Knicks blew this one too!

  12. ShonQuayshah says:

um Dallas…use a fool for picking that particular song as the background theme for this story, but truly it does fit and i had never heard this version, so thanks for that!

on Iverson: maybe he should not have missed all those practices! take your ass overseas…like someone said before, he needs to go play in Turkey…the jive part!

  13. Tony Grands says:

I said it last month, too much pride, not enough gas left in the tank. His wife should’ve gave him realistic advice, instead of putting him on the ass & saying “go get ’em, baby”. It’s always better to go out on top, then to struggle with a finale. It’s kind of sad…

  14. sealsaa says:

^I’d have to disagree Grands. He’s still got game. His attitude is the problem. He even admitted that he wasn’t in shape, which is a disgrace when you think about the unfortunate situations that guys like Yao Ming, T-Mac, and now Greg Oden are in.

  15. Chris says:

I think this is a perfect fit for AI. Everyone is forgetting that the Sixers are horrendous. He can do whatever he wants and no matter his play or his attitude, it won’t change the fact that the Sixers have no chance of winning. On top of that, he’s in the only place that has any type of support for him. Also, I’m assuming his performance was down b/c it was a first game in a month.

About Donaghy – First, I wouldn’t believe what the media has said, particularly those individuals whose employer has an ongoing business relationship with the NBA. Second, it’s clear he’s spitting a lot of this information of the top of his head w/o much more than his own memory to support his claims. Nonetheless, the NBA has had the truly outrageous games and series, particularly in the playoffs, where there has been truly absurd calls and/or outrageous free throw discrepancies that make me give Donaghy’s claims some credence. The Lakers-Blazers and Lakers-Kings playoff series, as well as the Mavs-Heat (Dwayne Wade averaging 25 FT/game) Finals stick out the most.

Do y’all ever consider the astronomical amounts of money that sports generates in America? Consider EVERYTHING about it and tell me why there would be something left up to chance? I know sports are wild fixed but I still enjoy feats of athleticism. Just like people like going to a strip club to watch asses wiggle. You don’t pretend that you are going to take that stripper to the altar (maybe you do). I suspend the notions of heroes and villains. I salute the 500ft. homerun and I don’t care if the hitter smokes crack or kicks his dog. If he makes his dog smoke crack I think he might should go to rehab.

Iverson is the shit because he has maintained his personality throughout his career. Unrepentant, unapologetic, singularly impassioned for the game of basketball. For all we know the shots he’s missed could have been on the orders of the mob. I don’t give a fux. I will still watch him play in the hopes of seeing that crazy circus shot that had no buisness going in..

    Game 5: at PHO 2007
    SA 88, PHO 85 – Final

Officials: Eddie F. Rush, Greg Willard, Tim Donaghy

The fight game. Spurs 2007 Champs

    The fix was on…
