Dude, What The Eff Is A Papaya Dog?!?

papaya

Papaya Dog is the universal fast food joint for everyone leaving a bar or club in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. It’s democracy in its greatest and lowest forms all wrapped up in a gelatin casing and served with mustard, ketchup, onions or ‘kraut at no additional cost.

I can’t believe you came here because you wanted to eat a hot dog. Something has gone terribly wrong in your life and here you find yourself sampling the chicken tenders, or the chili cheeseburgers, or heaven forbid, the chili cheese hot dog. You must have the intestinal tract of a coal furnace. There’s no way that human beings were created to digest the food served here, and that is why I always find the illest part of humanity at the counter.

So here’s the million dollar question… What the eff is inside a hot dog and why do they taste so damn good? The world may never know.

Grays is the best, hands down. I fondly remember two Grays and a Papaya drink being better than filet mignon at 4am.

WTH is this casing made of and what’s the gelatin part? UGH!!!

Hot dogs are delicious but I may not want another one after this.

LOL… Scrapple. I could never do it when I lived in Philly and its not like I was one of those po’k avoiding Negroes.

LOL @ Tiffany – I caused a girl to stop eating them when she was in mid bite and I referred to it as a “dick sammich”… I feel bad for her boyfriends she prahlee don’t give head after that either.

I thought all the papaya places used natural casing hot dogs. They have that snap. Also I think Mike’s Papaya used to start serving really good breakfast sandwiches around 4AM.

I can’t front Greys Papaya was the ish. I used to get three Hot dog buns with red onions and a grape drink. You can keep that nasty gelatin wrapped meat medley.

There use to be a dude named Hector that would put something extra in your papaya juice for an extra $3. Those were the days.

I don’t eat the dogs, but I love them damn fries for $.99.

back in the day when I lived on 70th and West End there was a Gray’s Papaya on 72nd, as a matter of fact I think it’s still there. I would get two dogs and a Papaya drink and take it to crib, stumbling past the doorman looking like a hot mess!

  17. 40 says:

^Aunt Jackie… Yep 72nd & Bway… Caught a public urination ticket there at 4 am a few years back. (Beat the case! WHAT WHAT!) Its still there but not as good as the one on 6th Ave & 8th Street…
