My folks produced this exhibit over the course of two years. The images and stories are powerful, and dare I say prehistoric.

  1. Tony says:

I have to say this is just mind blowing. Damn.

  2. I am interested in including your exhibit in a study abroad program we offer in Santo Domingo for students attending Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
The course, “African Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean” is presented on the campus of a large private university in Santo Domingo.

It was developed in collaboration with the African American Information Center (CIAM) in Santo Domingo.

My organization, the IERC is also cooperating on a project similar to yours with a community based organization in Samana whose ancestors are ex slaves from the US who migrated and settled in Samana in 1824. They founded the first AME Church which still exists.

Their story needs to be told as part of American History and a chapter in the African Diaspora. An historical exhibit through documents and pictures might also be possible.

An American college is being established in Samana on land owned by this Samana community organization of former slaves from the US. Ten acres have been donated to an HBCU study abroad consortium for them to develop overseas extensions of their campuses to do research into the experiences of African descendants in the Caribbean and other parts of Latin America.
