DAVE CHAPPELLE is in South Africa taking a ‘white’ break. NOT rehabbing from drugs and NOT in an asylum. When those humorless bastards at Comedy Central stepped to DAVE and told him to change his material he did what we all wish we could do. He sung them a song. “I’m leaving, on a jet plane, and I don’t know if I’ll be back again. So kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you’ll wait for me, hold me like you’ll never let me go”.
“And buy my Season Two DVD beeyatches!”
It wasn’t b/c the big-wigs told him to change his material. Dave felt as though people/a person was laughing at him instead of with him. But it doesn’t matter. I believe that when the execs at Comdey Central offered Dave that PHAT contract, it was Dave who couldn’t handle being that rich. Even if they wanted him to change his material, Dave was responsible and in control of his show’s main platform: to make people laugh and give people something to think about.
On a much deeper level (I don’t know if you know it or not), Dave and lots of other “brothers” constantly accused “the white man” of holding down them and the black race. Blacks like Dave have realized that that’s been a lie. GUILT was what these blacks feel and they should. Lying and making up shit, especially about white people may get Dave some laughs while he’s doing comedy sketches. But in reality, REAL lies aren’t funny.
