Catch Lunchtime Wreck With The Creator…

pete rock

I’ve been considering Pete Rock’s catalog lately after listening to the ‘Monumental’ album with him and Smif-N-Wessun. Pete Rock has held the keys to the Soul Bounce production house. I’ve never heard anyone rap over Pete Rock’s drums who wasn’t respectful to the importance of the drum.

The drum was made to mimic the sound of thunder. The ancient sound of thunder is the call to open your ears and listen because a message is coming from on high.

Here’s a few choice joints produced by the Creator for you to spin thru your afternoon lunchbreak…

Heavy D – ‘Don’t Curse’

Pete Rock x CL Smooth – ‘Skinz’

Public Enemy – ‘Shut ‘Em Down’

House Of Pain – ‘Jump Around’

Run-DMC – ‘Down With The King’

Pete Rock x CL Smooth – ‘T.R.O.Y.’

“Monumental” is a nice record, real nice, though I think there were a few spots Tek & Steele– I hate to say it– dumbed things down, though Steele especially keeps it political/rugged on his solo projects, whereas Tek proves his range with some cost to listenability. BK dudes can not and should not “go Southern,” I’m sorry, though I can always stand more West Indian riddims and riddllin’.

And whose idea was it to give Memphis Bleek a feature? Dude must have stories though good luck getting ’em out. Generic Bun B feature was pointless also, tho’ nobody can fault his mic presence.

Remember this one, DP? Pete Rock “Head Rush” with GZA & RZA–

Pete Rock second to one – Primo. Not mad @ anybody who puts Choc Boy Wonder #1.

A few faves by Pete Rock:
Stone Garden remix (Psycho Realm) instrumental
    Militia (Gangstar) remix
    Grown Man Sport (INI)
You Can’t Stop the Prophet remix (Jeru)

dilla is my #1. pete & primo are tied for 2nd of all time. Pete is the remix king
and the first hip hop producer to always shout himself out at the beginning or
ending of his remixes. “another pete rock remix.” < classic!
