i find that the american media (i stress media, because we all know what happens behind closed doors) generally finds it offensive, taboo, immoral or unacceptable to exploit and degrade many other races/cultures except when it comes to hispanics. Are we the door mats of american culture? can you imagine a movie about an african tribe called the “clickity clack crew”? didnt all hell break loose about the “tsunami song”? but when it comes to hispanics all bets are off, i bet all of you not only over heard, but maybe even said some pretty heinous things during the whole “immigration debate”. have we been pigeon holed as subservient? or are we too docile to take a stand?…just my musings
That’s an interesting point Sangano. How come in 2006 we are still using white to portray Latin characters? There’s surely no dearth of Mexicans. Where is Horatio Sanz on all of this?
horatio sanz and peers are indeed the voices we should hear crying out, we should see commentary made by professional journalists and scholars alike…we’ve been treated as door mats for more than a minute and i don’t see it changing anytime soon…is it that we lack political sensibility, righteous indignation? is it simply under our radar? or over our heads?
i however see it on the daily, from “mexican” jokes from my bosses and peers in the work place, to latinos being minimalized/trivialized as either farmers, precolombian “savages”, or gangmembers in the media. our heros are limited to exposure on early sunday morning shows on one or two networks, or Univision whom everyone knows for the “hot women”, not for the quality of reporting which i assure you outclasses anything seen on Fox 5 or UPN 9 newz (thats another story all in and of it self…flares me the F up when i see “BEHIND THE SCENCES OF SUMMER JAM COMIN UP IN 5 minutes!” on a news network!) regardless it is out there and it is pretty blatant, and i dont see other cultures tolerating it.
…anyway i wonder how the j-boyz are gonna put up with my hooottzzpah over at Cardozo Law!!!
ps. JIMMY SMITS will smak various Kuffi’s off so watch out
AHHHHHHH Wangechi!! She’s cool people. I haven’t hung out with her in a long time.
Whoops. That was for the last post.
The Mexican wrestlnig culture is self-parodying, honestly.
J. Lo tried to play an Italian and they called her a sell-out.
She is a sellout but thats not the point.
Pacino played a Cuban and a Rican.
DeNiro has played a Jew in Casino.
