Iverson Is NOT The Answer…

iverson

For my Knicks

Truthfully he isn’t the answer to any team right now because he still considers himself a primetime player. If Iverson could sublimate his ego he would be a good fit on any number of contending clubs. Cleveland or Boston would benefit having his talents. More importantly tho’ is that Iverson would also have to alter himself as a player and shooter.

Do you remember VINNIE ‘The Microwave‘ JOHNSON? He earned the nickname because he was able to score a bunch of points really fast. He could heat up quickly. Can Iverson become a microwave because right now he is coal furnace filled with bricks. Vinnie Johnson also played stifling defense which Iverson absolutely does not.

All I know is that the Knicks and Iverson both deserve better at this point.

He was the Microwave because he came off the bench and scored immediately. Iverson wants no part of a bench-role. It’s sad, but his time IS up unless he has a drastic change of heart.

Shitty way to go out, but that’s what happens to me-first players.

    You got this one right

  3. hl says:

I wish people would stop shitting on Iverson. He is only one of the best small gaurds in NBA history. Probably only second to Isiah Thomas. Dallas, Knicks fans should hope to get a legend like Allen.

  4. VEe! says:

Do you remember when Allen Iverson was known a good number of steals per game? I think it is safe to say that Allen Iverson’s attitude killed ruined his career.

  5. I quit the motherfucking Knicks in the Lenny Wilkens era, although the signs of their now perhaps eternal retardation were there under Van Gundy also: all the dead man walking 2nd and 3rd quarters followed by maniacal 4th where they might, or might not, catch up.

I mention that because, trust, I ** used to know ** the game very very well, and the mention of Vinnie Johnson reminds of ’91-’92 when fellow ex-Sonic Xavier McDaniel was on the team. Any serious Knicks heads will know why I remember that fondly.

HL, DP’s last line sums it up: I don’t think he’s shitting on AI but the Knicks are BAD NEWS, which your mention of goddamn Isiah in the same sentence proves. I hoped Marbury could get it together too but some folks ain’t built like that.

Also, re: Vinnie Johnson and Isiah, speaking of the Pistons, motherfuck Allan Houston, still, and all his happy WWJD bullshit.

Finally, I hope Charlie Fucking Ward is (not) selling cars somewhere down in Florida now even as I type.

Out of towners don’t know how much Knicks fans have suffered; DP is a tank to still care even a little.

    ^^
Word up… But damn, i feel kind of bad for his career. He has proven to be a warrior for many years with Philly and the League still hated on him.

  7. SIC Beats says:

And for those of you who are from NY and hate on the knicks, go jump out of window with bricks in your pockets. Off yourself.

  8. Tony Grands says:

Iverson’s head is probably too full to even realize this, but if he stopped playing right now, cats would still talk about his as one of the best point guards to play the (NBA) game. This man made the league bend around his appearance, attitude & game play. Maybe it’s a case of the “forest for the trees”, but every young cat out there, braided & tatted from hand to neck, is a piece of him. If not, than who?

I think he wants to be the best, instead of settling for being the best @ what he did. Arguably, this cat put Hip Hop aesthetic into the league, & the shit’s still there. Who else gets photographed with his family, @ a fancy restaurant, wearing bball shorts, mad jewels & braids? I’m still waiting on the nigga to play with his earrings on, like “Fuck a fine!”.

This could very well be the story of a legend who didn’t know he was one.

  9. @Sic BEATS, how old are you, son? Remember this?

Otherwise I’ll assume you’re playing yourself just for fun because you can’t be serious about that (unless James Dolan is your boss and even then…)

However, if you are the ** REAL ** Sic BEATS–

You should know I have repped Smif N Wessun “The Album” and General Steele “Welcome To Bucktown” since each of ’em dropped; I wish they’d come up with a better title than “The Album” but otherwise it’s a goddamn jewel of how “adult” hip-hop can still be gully as shit. Also, I love “Kimbo Price” but I’d put the Steele right next to it as near-top of ’09.

Now come on, tell the truth– were you cursing out goddamn OJ and Al Cowling for fucking up our Game 4? What’s your favorite Anthony Mason haircut? You still wear Clydes?

While in theory I hold out the slightest hope Donnie Walsh can fix the curse, I’m extremely skeptical. Now watch this and tell me why I shouldn’t hate?

Some might disagree but, forced to choose, I’d take the ’70 Knicks over the ’69 Mets and Jets, tho’ they all had character.

The Knicks went into the abyss during the end of the Gunfeld era. Checketts couldn’t rescue them and plunged us deeper into debt. Isiah ended up having the same effect even tho’ we had a glimmer of hope when the NYC pt guards returned to the big city. Wilkins wound up with the short end as we had to endure several more years of Starbury shenanigans.

My problem with the Knicks is that the GMs have adopted the Yankee free agent philosophy for rebuilding this team. I just hope we don’t have to build a billion dollar taxpayer funded arena in midtown to bring a ‘chip back home to NYC

  11. bananaclipse says:

I’m still mad that the knicks didn’t draft Jennings (I’ve been fuming since draft day. not the 55pt outing). anywho, Iverson would fuck the knicks even moreso than they are now. They need a playmaking distributor and a big man not a 35 shot/48min machine

  12. mercilesz says:

vinnie shot the knicks down so many times during my nba on nbc childhood years…big ups johnny newman and rod strickland and kiki vandaweghe? thats how u spell it?

  13. SIC BEATS says:

    @WIllis Still Sunsweet, WWIB

Yes, its the real SIC beats. I dont think ive aquired enough fame yet for someone else to use my name on Blogs… lol.. (end honestly, i dont think i want it). Thanks for acknowlegding though.

Sean P and Steele are my dudes… If you got a prob with SmiffNWessun album titles, ask them about it. They’re in the hood, and aint hard to find.

How old am I you ask? Well i dont go as far back as the 70s with the Knicks but i’ve been a fan since Pat got drafted in ’85. I’ve witnessed all the ups and downs since then. So what if they effed up a couple times in the play offs?!? Where is your loyaltly? Besides for the obvious management issues, Loyalty is part of the reason why we are in the perdicament that we are in right now. Disloyal fans, no damn support. Why would a knick want to play for fans like that?

  14. Hah– I love Tek & Steele (II), just saying the plain title didn’t really convey the range of creativity and depth of rhymes there. Were you at the Brower Park gig in August? Tek’s mixtapes are very worthwhile too if anyone doesn’t know ’em. Props on the beats, keep ’em coming.

Re: the Knicks, I appreciate your point but decades of loyalty wore me the fuck out. And really, it got to a point where I think a mass boycott would send a better message than support. Dudes are still very well paid– ladies too if we include the woman who got the sexual harassment $$$ from ’em.

Also, trust my feelings come from someone who feels it’s damn near a spiritual loss we haven’t had respectable ball in so long. Hopefully in what remains of my life that will change. And to think we COULD HAVE had Dontrevius Wenters!!!

  15. BIGNAT says:

man iverson had his best years being treated as a work mule in philly. they never gave him a big man. all his role players threw up bricks when they needed to sink shots. then he goes to denver and what is the problem with denver well they can score 116 a night. they give up on average like 120 a night or some shit like that. the math was not working out over there then he was sent to the pistions. the problem they don’t work right without billups. now iverson to the knicks why? they don’t really need him for real i have not kept up with the team that much. from the games i remember seeing from last season. they need to build the team around lil nate and that big white dude who averages the double double almost every night. the knicks look like they ready for the rucker every year never the n.b.a finals.

  16. Maan he was great to watch in Philly but seriously what are the Knicks thinking?

  17. Todd Whitney says:

    Iverson…
    Knicks…
It would be a typical Knick move to pick up Iverson. We got Larry Johnson way after the Grandmama Days…Kiki and Rolondo Blackman were All Stars, but not when the Knicks got them. We all know that the lisa can go on and on.

As for Iverson…he had the chance to play with a few good players with Jerry Stackhouse, being one of the best. Alot of the other players when not playing with Iverson seem to have better years (my humble opinion).

There is no doubting the man’s greatness on the court, but he really doesn’t make teamates better. He had a terrible work ethic. I love the Hip Hop (pardon the word) swagger.

There’s a reason why dudes like Kobe and MJ are the best, and it’s their work ethic. The show up on time to practice…they make teamates better…they go to scheduled events…they don’t just rely on their god given talent. They work on it and want to be the best. Imagine if he had the work ethic of Kobe or MJ?

NY Knicks…please don’t do this to sell seats. Your fans deserve better and you’ll be letting Iverson go at the end of the year anyways.

  18. thekid10705 says:

Knicks are awful..2010 were only gonna be worse.. A I for the Knicks for this season would be a decent look.. He would complement Al Harrington on the offense end.. Bottom line they suck and I’ll turn them on just to try and capture a hint of the greatness A I once had..

DP, watch your mouth about my boy Vinny Johnson..He was my man, remember he wore the Air Alpha joints? Kinda like the low top version of the Air Revolutions. Another guy who I one time coined the “modern day microwave” was instant offense Tony Delk..He could put them up in a hurry!!

  19. the_dallas says:

Did you read this drop or do you just skim this shit? I brought Vinny Johnson back to life fool. Brooklyn stand up! Don’t have me send Pearl Washington to your house to confiscate your Nike Dunks.

  20. $ykotic/Don McCaine says:

LoL @ Pearl Washington. Wow. Didn’t see anyone name drop Latrell Sprewell either. I’ve been a Knickerbocker fan since the Bernard King days. A lot of suffering I tell you this.

But I still say p/u AI. Why not? Go for another draft pick so they can fukk that up too? We had Nene AND Channing Frye. AND Ariza. The Knicks are probably working on getting Tracy McGrady as we speak…

Besides I would drop $ for a Iverson #3 Knick jersey. Marbury doesn’t need it anymore…
