Prometheus… WTF?!?

I feel like I’ve been waiting for this film for forever and after watching it I was like, “What the FUX?!?” This is some BULLSHIT!

The Alien franchise has been one of the most intriguing and dramatic series put to film. It’s started to lose its way and become a B-movie camp series before the promise of this Prometheus prequel. And then a few weeks before Prometheus was set to release the creators tightened up. They started saying that Prometheus wasn’t directly tied to Alien, but these events occurred in the same universe.

That is what I call ‘Sucka Shit’. How the hell they gonna get the world hyped to see what birthed the greatest horror sci-fi flicks and then retract the whole setup? Those are the type shenanigans people play when they know their end product isn’t up to snuff. Ridley Scott and his team overshot the target for this film and in the process may have ruined the whole point of the prequel.

My biggest complaint tho’ was the simple idea which humankind was spawned from a humanoid type species. The human dominates Earth not because of their bodies but because of their minds. If an anthropod were three feet tall and could talk they might would be Earth’s dominant species. I have to believe that whatever put humans on this planet can put something here way better and badder than we are. I consider humans to be a ‘dry run’.

The alien from the OG flick rears its ugly head at the end of the film and then I ask myself how is this movie NOT related to the first film? There is the alien from Alien. Well sort of. Prometheus didn’t really know what it wanted to be. I blame that shit on 3-D and CGI technology.

When the original Alien dropped in 1979 nobody had all this visual tech to ruin your story. You had to make a good movie back then. Now all you have to do is make that shit 3-D and people will forget they are in the theater to have a story told to them. That’s why I go to the movies. Or sometimes I go to beat the summer heat and enjoy some air conditioning.

That’s the only thing you might get out of watching Prometheus… Two and a half hours of good air conditioning.

GTFOH, Dallas… This film was fantastic.

First of all, it takes place in the same universe as the Alien Quadrilogy films (with xenomorphs, Weyland-Yutani, etc.). But it’s not really a prequel to Alien. Prometheus was set to explore the origin story of the “Space Jockey” in Alien. But the ship they discover in Prometheus is not the same as the one John Hurt & Co. find in the film (the Engineer they find in Alien has a hole in its rib cage… different Engineer!). It’s an entirely different planet! The monsters/aliens we see in Prometheus are also different from the one(s) in Alien (with some (genetic) similarities, of course). If they were to make a prequel of Prometheus – which I hope they do, and from what I’ve read is almost definitely going to happen – the movie would take the story line even FURTHER away from the beginning of Alien. Once again, it’s not a prequel.

The people who walked into this movie thinking it was a direct prequel to Alien are the folks who are most likely to be disappointed in the film. But if you walked into the theater with no preconceived notions, just expecting to see some state-of-the-art, bad-ass sci-fi, you got what you paid for.

Bottom line: The Engineers are gully as f*ck. That surgery scene was cringe-inducing. The actors were all well-cast. Fassbender knocked it out the park. The cinematography was beautiful. What’s not to like!?

I have to disagree. Thought the film was great.

    Ivan,
The film was beautiful to watch but horribly written as a prequel to the Alien film which it was. How could it not be? Maybe there is another film to connect the timeline of Alien to Prometheus but there was too much iconography from Alien used in this film from the facehuggers to the chest bursters to the Alien itself.

The parable the screenplay writers were trying to express went awry without proving or answering anything. I didn’t come to the movie a blank viewer. I came as someone who loved the Alien storyline and wanted to see something which described their origins better and more concisely plus the engineer as human creator thread is weaksauce

they basically said it’s 50 or 100 years before alien’s blah blah blah. the point is they made it so similar to not make it seem like a prequel to the first movie. yet that is exactly how the movie felt. they change certain facts but what it looks like is what it is. they should have just dropped the b.s. called it a alien prequel and that way they could have crafted a better story

From what I understand, Ridley Scott is on record as saying it is not a sequel; for whatever that is worth.

I had my wig pushed back by the movie, I have never left the cinema before feeling like I felt when I left Prometheus.

    Super crazy…

dallas – so agreed on prometheus. that was a wild bad movie. very nice to look at but wtf was going on in it. if you look close at the plot, nothing actually makes sense. also, all the characters are total assholes. original alien and aliens have likeable characters for days, people your root for. in prometheus, you root for them to get smoked – which they do in usually very illogical, joyless ways.

    here’s a tidy summation of prometheus’s problems: http://redlettermedia.com/red-letter-media-talks-about-prometheus-spoilers/

If you watch the end closely, the idea is sorta presented that there is a sequel to this prequel about the ‘prequel’ (so to speak) of humanity. She still jumps into the ship on a mission to get back to the origins of The Engineers. In effect it’s an anti- prequel sequel cos shes about to go into the future to find out about the past. Dope flick, dope concepts, dope all around.
