Joell Ortiz: ‘Iron On You’

Cooper housing projects favorite son delivers a street anthem in the classic NYC rap vein of cautionary tales.

His message: Don’t get slaughterd because of beef. Are you listening Drake and Chris Brown?

I don’t think Joell even knows who he is anymore, let alone who or whatever this ‘warning’ is about… That I just listened to Biggie “Warning” before popping over here doesn’t do Joell any favors but the humble Joell was a likable striver… This throw shit against the wall and see what sticks Joell– from idiotic “Yaowa” to laughing at his own cornball punchlines to “Yes, Boss”-in whatever gimmick Em and Interscope wants him to try (not that I ever liked Slaughterhouse) but…

I’m confused pmac! And I bought Joell’s first cd at Beat Street and thought there was potential… “The Brick” was more than half good also but ever since he came weak on “Apollo Kids” I’ve not been charmed by him, at all. This beat is pretty awful too.

    I know rappers gotta eat

Joell’s first cd I saw = “Who The F*&# is Joell Ortiz?”… There was some super cornball shit on that but the desire and better influences showed thru enough I checked “The Brick” when it dropped. Any record with Maino on it gets loses musical credibility but “125 Grams” especially was excellent.

i liked him cause he rappd about basketball and chicks, not the gangster murder shit. he’s a big dude and could probaly knock out 3/4 of rappers on major labels, but i think interscope did put himup to this your right its a gimmick.

  5. I’m just glad that the cats in SlaughterHouse are gettin props and monies. All 4 can spit, and i check for all of their projects. Though I too am at a loss at who he’s rappin bout. I don’t think nobody beefin w/Joell…or should want to
