CAPTAIN BILLY SUNDAY’s PIRATE RADIO PODCAST

iPirate

A year or so ago my homey from L.A. the TechWhore sent me an album that I was sure would change the sound of Hip-Hop. The title was called ‘Niggaz and White Girls’ and it was produced by Bay Area rappers Kirby Dominant and Chris Sinister. They essentially sampled all of the best new wave tunes from the early to mid 1980’s and added their Cali sensibilities to the rhyme flow. I thought that it was a breath of fresh air from all of the homoerotic gangterism that was populating the genre. It’s a fun album and there are several skits that play around with the inappropriate title of the disk. At the end of the day it’s just good Hip-Hop music.

I’ve been meaning to expose y’all to some of these tracks since I enjoyed the album so much. There’s a little bit of profanity here and there so put on the headphones if you are in the cube at the 9-2-5. Otherwise pump up the volume and enjoy the BARACK OBAMA meets HILLARY CLINTON mash up, or as I like to call it – O.J. and NICOLE BROWN in rap music form.

niggaz n white girlz

‘Don’t You(Take All My Money)’

‘What’s The Big Deal?’ (skit)

‘Girl, I’m Just Human’

‘Hold My Hand’ (skit)

‘Cars’

‘Fuck You And White Bitches!’ (skit)

‘Passion’

‘When The World Is Running Down’

It’s great to hear some MCs who don’t take themsleves too serious that can spit over tracks associated with dudes wearing polyester jump suits, eye makeup and blouses. Kool G Rap sampled the Gary Numan “Cars” song waaaaaay back and I think that DJ Marvelous & Cash Money sampled Tears For Fears back in the day.

  2. I remember you talkin bout them AWHILE back when i first started skimming through your site. I had checked out their myspace. Their beats are like lemonade on a hot summer day. Just niiiiiice.

  3. I also used to have an addiction to snowbunnies growing up. In fact i didn’t start messin with the chocolate ones until recently. Kind of a funny story of how it happened but oh well..

Let’s not forget Edie Brickell for Brand Nubian’s “Slow Down” and Tom-Tom Club’s ubiquitous “Genius of Love.”

I been messing with this joint ever since you posted the original post. I gotta couple songs that they posted on another site on the ipod. I love this shit. I meant to buy the whole thing cause i figure independent cats making shit this funny deserve to get paid but its hard after about 9 years of getting free music to break the download habit. I think this post has inspired me to order this shit when i get home.

Funny how times change if this was 92 we’d be talking about how wack this shit is. Everybody laughed when KRS threw pm dawn off the stage, now the same cats(well at least the few of us that have heard it) are rocking to the same style beats. When the novelty first wore off i was dissappointed that they rock over straight instrumentals instead of flippin em a little, but its still dope and brilliant nonetheless.
