HURRICANE STARRKEYSHA:
Can I Get A Witness?!?

stacey adams... NOT

In the wake left by Hurricane Starrkeysha we will certainly see one thing: documentaries. This seems to be the nom de riguer response to any major news event. I suppose Michael Moore is to blame. I am sure that there will be some really insightful questions posited in some of these documentaries. I doubt that anyone will present the ultimate truth. And what is the ultimate truth?

Could it be that we(the United States of America) are simply a third world nation that is in denial? What if our response in Louisiana was actually the best that we could do? What if the level of our technology and our resources gets no better than what we displayed?

In my heart of hearts I don’t want to believe what I just wrote, but there has been no feasible excuse proffered to explain the tragedies. It kills me to give KANYE WEST any extra credit but his statement “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” has been the only truth uttered so far.

We’ll only wake up to our impoverished status as a country when people realize what the other half of Kanye’s comments should have been: “If you is po’ and white, we don’t give a rat’s ass about you either.”

I don’t know whether or not it matters that was the best we can do. What matters is it’s what was done.

    Damn, damn, damn James!

  3. It saddens me to know that we live in a country – “Land of the free, blah, blah, blah” and our nation (in my opinion) has really made no effort to address the problem, solve the problem or even ADMIT there is a problem. People slammed Kanye for making his statement – and although I thought it was harsh and perhaps not the proper forum, he was one of few (if any) that have spoken up so clearly and in the public eye….

This shit pisses me off. And it pisses me off even more that we are so jaded from the in your face 24/7 news coverage of Katrina, that when another (try 3 or 4) hurricanes come by and blast some other cities, that the media fails to cover the real aftermath. And I’m not comparing Miami to New Orleans, but damn! People in Miami are still without power after 2 weeks and are being told not to expect any until Thanksgiving. No hot water, no FOOD (power is what keeps the grocery stores open and is what helps you cook and store your food). Gas stations have lines 4 to 5 hours long and Miami doesn’t have public transportation – you’re either walking 10 miles or you are literally outta gas. Ignorant-ass bill collectors are calling people to harass them, oblivious to people’s inability to go to a bank and withdraw money because once again, no electricity. And also… uh….that’s it. Do those slippers come in a size 8? Oh nooo…..
