PUNK LIFE By ERNIE PANICCIOLI

ERNIE can’t stop, won’t stop on his quest to make ten books in ten weeks. Take a look at some of the images from his sixth book he is calling ‘Punk Life’.

ERNIE was fascinated with the emerging Punk Rock culture in New York City during the 1970’s and how it intertwined with the graffiti and music scene that was being developed further uptown. Their energies were similar even though their looks were often polar opposites.

These are flicks from the days of CBGB and the little rock bars that dotted the lower east side of Manhattan before those neighborhoods became too hip and cool for the punks. ERNIE’s work in this book tells so many different stories… Iconic imagery of the pre-punk rock and post-punk rock eras along with the past and future New York City.

ERNIE’s books are time capsules to a period that is long gone and whitewashed in this city that now looks like a branded piece of corporate capitalism. DisneyWorld North. Don’t ever forget what this city used to be. What rebel rock music used to be. Fuck the emo bullshit.

Maybe I’m driven, maybe I’m nuts, maybe I am happy as a run away slave to be able to publish hundreds of my photos in a dozen books without a corporate hand guiding my words or selecting my images and dictating what I can or cannot show or say.
“PUNK LIFE” will be available for sale around the start of March. I’ll make a Dallas Penn exclusive offer:
Anyone who buys all six of my books will get 3 signed color prints of their choice from those books FREE.
Or you can use your money and buy Kanye West Cd’s and walk around with slotted white plastic sunglasses and have MA cut into your hair.
In other words you have the choice to support art or kitch. Smile, Ernie

  2. Robbie says:

Ernie needs a cameo in the next IC flick, what with these quality rants.

  3. Ernest Paniccioli says:

Rants? I saw Kanye on the Grammies, had just eaten my dinner and was in a good mood, what I saw hit me like ex-lax, him, his over the top, tacky, whiny, plastic, hollyweird, BS act capped off by his ever present WHITE SLIT PLASTIC SUN GLASSES-WTF?

  5. Ernest Paniccioli says:

EMO-emotional, washed out, sappy rock can you say
    Embrace
    Moss Icon
    Beefeater
    Fugazi ?
The music, sound, rumble, roar I heard at CBGB’S in the 80’s was all out audio warfare, it would make your eyes and ears bleed and break window glass a half mile away, it was sonic extremism without and mercy, apology, or care if you dug it, understood it, liked it or hated it, it just made damn sure you hears it and felt it.no white plastic sunglasses, no half a million dollar platinum chain, no bodyguards, no over priced producer, no Grammies, no MTV, no music videos, no radio play, no publicist, no Spin magazine, no radio or TV interviews, no remixes, no movie soundtracks, no Funkmaster Flex money under the table, no Hot 97 just a sonic Jihad, a desire to be louder, more harsh, more insane, more angry than the last three bands put together. All this polished Beyonce, Kanye, American Gangster 50cents bullshit would be as popular in a Punk Club as Perry Como or Bing Crosby. If you want to get an idea of the realness or the rawness and how it influenced Rap take any Public Enemy album and turn it up to 10 and listen to the whole album in a small living room. Peace, Ernie

  6. Robbie says:

Rants are a good thing Ernie, no disagreement regarding Liberache West from me.

  7. Ernest Paniccioli says:

Kanghey Worst you get DA BOZACK Lifetime Award along with Hammer’s harem pants and Vanilla Ice’s blond gumby. Ernie (no white plastic slotted glasses) (II)

    Urgh, more uninspired photography.

    Just what trhe world need.

  9. Ernest Paniccioli says:

to Mr Johhnycakes please allow me to share the words of the prophet and Master Crunk Artist (whose name escapes me) “read a book motherfucker, read a book, read a book motherfucker, read a book,…………..”
And before you can criticize a book, especially an OG with more than 35 years of documenting Hip Hop Culture you need to read a book (preferably from the limited readability of your post-a dictionary).

  10. Nigeria says:

Wow, Jonnycakes (mad fruity name, though I’m not judging) got embarrassed.

Read your posts before shooting your mouth off.

  11. Marvelous Mo says:

    CrabCakes,

Before you start going after Ernie’s neck about his work, you need to be a student of the history of Hip Hop and New York to have a valid reason for your dumb ass comment.

I hate when people do stupid shit like that. People who contribute nothing to the culture yet they call other people who spent their career apart of the movement “uninspired.” That stupid comment was on some Souljah Boy ignorant shit.

If you think his work is trash, step ya Photo game up and show him how it’s supposed to be done. OR how about you do something more inspiring like taking a .45 and pulling the trigger towards your temple.

    If not, STFU b.
