The good news is that the BOONDOCKS has busted open things for the good people at Cartoon Network. I was always a fan of their after-hours programming and the BOONDOCKS show is right inside my wheelhouse for entertainment. I was able to get past the voiceover issues with REGINA KING taking both lead roles because JOHN WITHERSPOON and CHARLIE MURPHY are both geniuses in their own right.
Here’s what made the show iffy for me…
-IF McGruder can find his true tone from the BOONDOCKS print strip which was witty, sly, smart and leave all the cliche stereotypical stuff alone.
-IF Cartoon Network doesn’t pull a ‘Chappelle Show’ managerial coup on the production team to tone down the humor.
-IF the writers will continue to let the lead characters call everyone they encounter ‘nigga’, especially the white characters.
Without the Chappelle Show to turn to I would be stuck supporting that two-timing tapdancing jig CHRIS ROCK.
