We Are The Fucking World…

matos

Does the U.S. run this Olympics shit?!?

Hell yeah!

China was ranked number #1 because they came up on 51 gold medals, but the U.S. won in the overall total medal count 110-100. Russia came in third place while Great Britain and then Australia were in 4th and 5th place overall respectively.

Even though the U.S.’s overall medal count is impressive the 36 gold medals only represents 1/3 of that total.

Let’s shout out the countries who left Beijing only after winning gold.

Bahrain
Cameroon
Panama
Tunisia

Too bad those dudes only won one medal.

The Cuban brother should be banned from any martial arts competition of any kind. Kicking the referee?!?

Jamaica! Bolt’s victories were crazy. When was the last time you a sprinter LEAVE his competitors?
China! China’s 51 is way better than the U.S. 100+ medals.

Can the U.S. Mens Basketball team win the gold in 2012? It is not a given.

@vee : it’s going to be a given when we replace with players even more suited to international play. 140 points per game with Oden/Durant/Roy coming on board.

^nerditry, given? nah! While the U.S. Mens Basketball program has proved to be dominant on the Olympic stage, that dominance caught a brick in 1988 and 2004. The margin of victory has been getting smaller and smaller. It’s going to be all about team chemistry and the coaching staff. Dream Team will never be repeated or duplicated.

The Olympics will be a far better competitive event when other nations through out South America, Africa, and more Eastern Asians nations begin to develop stronger economic infrastructures. They will be able to place more financial resources into particular sports and the shroud of U.S. sports dominance will eventually dwindle like the U.S. dollar.

Borat won?? Kazakhstan won the gold welterweight boxing division.

The US. recieved only got a bronze medal in heavyweight boxing?!? They also took a couple of gold medals in Wrestling and Roman-Greco wrestling. Russia has had a long standing boxing, sambo, wrestling progam that’s why they’re running the WBC, WBA, WB-whatever U.S. heavyweight division. Mother Russia stays WINNING, shout out to Klitschko,

@vee : We also had no developmental system for USA basketball going back to 1992 and moving forward until 2005 when players signed a 3-year committment. It won’t matter the infrastructure because the USA now knows how to play the FIBA style game and will more easily be able to understand which NBA players will best fit that style.

The difference with other countries catching us in basketball comes from the fact that it does not require an infrastructure to become good at it. Like soccer, you can be completely broke and still put together a hoop measuring 10 ft. and a court. After that, we still have the best system top to bottom in creating great players and there’s a precedent for the NBA’s biggest stars to completely give themselves up to the system and coach. Nate McMillan and D’Antoni hopefully stick around and my choice for the next coach to join the staff is Billy Donovan from U. Florida.

I think USA Basketball can keep winning the gold medal, but they must follow the futbol soccer steez of international country teams.

They need to keep the same team in the Basketball World Cup, Panamerican games, etc, to develop team chemistry & play well as a team. They need to play random “friendly” exhibition games. Perhaps after the NBA season ends, have a week commitment the next week to practice together & schedule some other countries to visit say NYC & play 4 scrimmage games against say PR, Argentina, Brazil, & Canada.

If only 3 of the 12 best US players can commit to this, so be it.

3 of 12 best US NBA players with 9 60th-ish ranked “weed carrier-ish” NBA players that all have commitment
    >
12 of 12 best players that can’t make the commitment & hence never practice together & hence don’t play as a team.

The futbol soccer blueprint is so obvious & demonstrated that it works, but the USA basketball TIs prolly can’t see it, given how futbol soccer is shyted on in the US. Aka Not Invented Here Syndrome just like in Corporate America.

@NMB: It may work for the USA, but the difference is that the majority of players from the NBA who play for the Olympics get to the NBA Playoffs. That said, look at Tayshaun Prince, dude has been in the league since 2002 and has been to the Conference or NBA Finals each season. That means he’s played more than an entire extra season with the playoffs factored in.

Since the average Olympian is getting into 80-100 games a year and those who play in Europe and Asia closer to 50 pro games, it’s going to be tough for our guys. I like the current system, but if FIBA/Olympics are going to become a serious part of the American future, we’re going to either have a shorter NBA season (not happening) or players will likely not sign up for more than one cycle and we’ll see many new faces each time.
