DP.COM STUDIO SESSIONS…

statik

STATIK SELEKTAH’s new album ‘Stick 2 the Script’ dropped today. The album features ridiculous cameos from everyone. No, really. EVERYONE.

My favorite track features verses from TALIB KWELI, SKYZOO and my number one nigga on the mic trigger, JOELL ORTIZ.

Talking ‘Bout U (Ladies)’

I got a chance to visit the studio when JOELL came through to lay down his verses. The environment was focused and all about work. I almost made my own rap song, except I can’t rap.

At all.

What I need to do is stay in my lane and ‘Stick 2 The Script‘.

  1. I just now added something on my to-do list of life: produce something, ANYTHING that sounds decent, in a studio that looks that good. It just looks fun.

That’s ill that you got to get in the studio with them and watch that all go down. Thanks for the video.

Static is sick but for me i got to hear Term on his shit. Ortiz is on another plane but Term is coming hard. Always a jewel in his verses

  3. LM says:

    Gracias. Good stuff.

  4. Big Homie says:

    This album stays bumpin’.

  5. Children of Sanchez says:

good look taking us with you to see this stuff, I keep gettin more and more respect for Joell Ortiz

  6. Interesting that Statik just admits he just samples whatever he wants.

I was wondering, is there a minimum sales threshold an album must have before others can legally sue them for not getting permission to use their samples?

Apathy 2006 Eastern Philosophy would be a big example. Apathy has Preemo-esque scratched choruses on most of the album’s songs, using big names like Lauryn Hill, Joe Camel, & BIG. If that was a major label hugely marketed album, it seems all those samples would be very expensive.
