Blood On The CD Player…

slaughterhouse

The SlaughterHouse project hit the web this weekend and I have been listening to the album on a loop. The album is everything I wanted it to be. It’s four emcees trading the microphone in a verbal sparring competition. From the outset you had to feel this was going to be a sick album. The opening track ‘Sound Off’ cuts your ears like a razor tucked inside someone’s cheek.

Sound Off

SlaughterHouse re-introduced Joe Budden, Royce and Crooked I to me. These were rappers that I never listened to for extended periods but with Joell Ortiz alongside of them I see what have been missing. Royce has been the biggest revelation to me while Crooked I is simply a lyrical monster. Joe Budden is simply insane. Why isn’t he called Joe Bananas?

Budden’s line on ‘Microphone’ basically sums up the rap music game currently. “Too many blueprints and not enough architects”. That is a mean fucking line. I don’t feel like it is a shot at Jay-Z as much as it is a shot at the Jigga copycats in the business. And yeah, maybe a slight shot at Jay for making the 10th Blueprint album.

When you look at the runtimes for my favorite tracks on the album you see something that most rap songs today don’t have. A nearly 5 minute length [ll]. Those aren’t going to be songs that accommodate terrestrial radio formats. That means that the SlaughterHouse project is going to fly on the strength of the fans and their word of mouth.

With albums like Rick Ro$$ ‘Deeper Than Rap’ selling better than 100K units in its first week I have predicted the same results for the SlaughterHouse debut. The Ro$$ album had the benefit of radio to promote its sales. The SlaughterHouse project has the internets. That didn’t work too well for Asher Roth’s debut. Let’s see what happens in the case of four master lyricists.

pams

I’m rating this album 3.5/4 Baywatch Pam Andersons.

We all knew there would be rhymes for days on this disk. The beats are as triumphant as the words from these emcees who were left for dead by the music industry. I wish all the previously leaked singles were on the album too so I could have a disk with them all on one place. I’m also a little disappointed that the M.O.P. x SlaughterHouse joint isn’t on the album.

I’m gonna run a little contest for my peoples here on the internets. I’m giving away an official SlaughterHouse x FLUD watch to the reader that comes the closest to predicting the SlaughterHouse first week sales. Just leave your prediction on the comments thread. I’ll keep the contest open until August 11th so get in where you fit in.

SlaughterHouse self-titled debut drops 08.11.09.

25k. I’m feeling SH, just thinking the project is too dope for these current cRap fans these days.

  2. khal says:

i’m gonna say 45K first week. probably lofty, but budden did about 13K or so first week w/ padded room, and i imagine the soldiers (esp fans of crooked) will come out and cop.

  3. mashout3 says:

    Gotta say about 16K

  4. Ben B says:

To put it bluntly, they have crafted an album I think is good enough to actually warrent a purchase, a rare thing. 45.7k first week.

  5. joey sold with his padded room album 30k in 1st week, ortiz got ny behind his back and the aftermath history he would sell 20-25k alone if he would drop on album, royce got detroit behind his back and the em history so 30-35 and crooked got the westcoast and the snoop/dre history so maybe 10-15 k. so with good luck they would sell 90-105k together. but the mainthing is that they bring they own fans together and the new customers.

  6. Gee says:

The damn filters are in effect and I cannot hear the tunes…sometimes the IP number gets hung up…if you say it, it must be…drop them beats in a email to me…hollah

  7. smog says:

if meth and red did 15k
they have got a lot of press
ill go between combat jack and wax
    29k

  8. the_dallas says:

I initially jumped out the window and said 150K but now I am confident in my 100K assessment.

My reasoning is that a gang of Eminem stans will copp this joint.

It has the kinds of rhyme flows that rap nerds love.

I need to do a polysyllabic word breakdown on one of these tracks.

    Maybe ‘Sound Off’.

  9. blackneck says:

I say 60K… Is this like The Price is Right? The closest without going over?

  10. Polotron says:

(I don’t know what’s happening to my post.)

I’d go 60K +1 by Price is Right rules

    75K – FTW(atch)

Break down Cuckoo: Where’s C. Delores Tucker when you need her?

  11. the_dallas says:

blackneck what up? I’ma tget that package out to you as soon as I get paid [ll]

Lo, Cuckoo is ill. Sound Off is iller. That fast rap shit has these boys using mad words. Its too tough to call now.

    Like I said up top…

The contest goes to whoever is CLOSEST period, over or under

  12. Timmo says:

27,834 – we know, but they dont know. Drops on my born day.

  13. Polotron says:

Iller? No sound cards in the coal mines. I’ll check it back @ the lab. Of the leaks, what else did they leave off?

And I like my chances @ the timepiece. D, do I incorrectly assume you are inherently precluded?

A week and mins ’til Slaughter.

  14. jaislayer says:

The tracks sound dope. I think they will do 28,365. The people like that illegal download and good shit like this feels the pain. I wish Slaughterhouse the best, we need more music like this. Peace.

  15. Dzheimijs says:

    57,042 and eff your meeting..

  16. king blair says:

18K thats all none of them big enough to push madd units and niggas get bootlegs

  17. BIGNAT says:

i picked a good day to come by the site dp. i am going say 45k i wish 100k or more but i don’t see it happening.

  18. dubble13 says:

    I stick by 68,100

  19. 45,000.

I’m glad this exists but honestly, I’m just not feeling it– reminds me way too much of when I DID listen to too much indie battle rap, most of it “pretty good” but ultimately very fucking tiresome to me. Slaughterhouse too is “pretty good” but it’s not even CLOSE to–

Blaq Poet & Premo “The Blaqprint”

    Wu Tang “Chamber Music”

    General Steele “Welcome To Bucktown”

and the great half of Torae & Marco Pole “Double Barrel” (the other half is pretty good, with one clinker).

Anyway, I wish Joell the best– I think the dude still has room to grow as a writer (that’s a compliment) and the less he has to rap about “making it” the more he time he can spend writing about other topics.

As far as what I wanna listen to and there are more GREAT punchlines on the new Cam, tho’ I’ll admit to being inordinately fond of his free associative knucklehead genius.

  20. madNooch says:

Im goin for 88K. they got a national demographic, its just gonna get downloaded like hell. If this album lives up to what your sayin man word of mouth/word of internets will spread like hell and get downloaded almost as mush as those rosa acost videos. Didnt losos way sell about 100K its first week tho? That had a movie with it tho. tough to say. I wanna see one of these “guess the sales” for OB4CL2

  21. big rils says:

    Fuck it … 47,238.

  22. Can I revote? And what did Maino sell? Granted, very different project but he had a hell of lot more exposure and don’t underestimate how goddamn retarded all the Best Buys and especially Targets in the world are for music. Even if the enthusiasm is there, how many kids MIGHT cop this but won’t see it staring ’em in the grill? Thus

    24,500.

  23. DirtyJerz says:

LOL @ blackneck….On some Bob Barker shit, I’ma say 101K. On the strength of the Slaughterhouse name ringing out in the Midwest….EARLY! Word is Bawn!

  24. Tony Grand$ says:

    26,501.

If this turns out well for them (being on E-1 is mos def a plus), I see them picking up more steam next album. For the most part, this is a “something to prove” release, especially for those not all up & through these here ‘Nets.

  25. m says:

12,000…………………………………… The internets, the fact that it been out over a week, the fact that we’ll b dealing with predominently itunes sales with a few Best Buy sales and probly 12 or 13 cds from Fat Beats………..but they’ve already gone gold on rapidshare….and the fact that the biggest fans(the bloggers) will be expecting the promo cd for free or have already downloaded it.

Plus u gotta figure in that 100k first week for a major label who spent a million on promotions is a decent number these days…………….unless we see these cats hugged up wit Rocsi and Terrence on the 106 n Park Couch this week, I’ll stick by my estimate……..I wish em the best tho’

  26. speedlaws says:

    eff it….19,000

  27. Craig says:

If this was 12 years ago this album would sell major numbers but now considering most of the buzz for this album is on these internets, which enables people to get music for free, so I think it’s gonna do 30.5k. I’m going to cop a copy from the store purely because I feel it’s my duty to support some real hip hop when it’s released.

  28. Lion XL says:

I give it hard 42K, just on GP. They have to do well, or we will be hearing 12 new DRAKE-A-LIKES/KANYE CLONES over the next year…..

  29. mac2nite says:

    66,666K

  30. YOU KNOW!!! says:

    26K … album is crazzzyyyyyyyy

  31. ENIG MUE says:

    65-66k
    SLAUGHTER

  32. quimby says:

    23,422

  33. xavier says:

    between 80-90,000
    hopefully these dudes promote enough

  34. I’m an idiot.
that was 100,001 sold. not 100,001k.
*takes another shot and goes back to sleep*

  35. Mark Dub says:

32K…just b/c ninjas aint ready for this kind of lyricism. They’d still prefer “laffy Taffy”

  36. thesiz says:

    nice contest…
    my $.02 (thats worth $.01) is 37k.
hopefully this buzz they got going does them well and they sell more…

how many people do you think will illegally download it?

  37. postmasterflex says:

    33k

  38. Polotron says:

    @ WWS, WWIB:

    OK, OK…“The Blaqprint”!!!

As if it were not enough, Preemo instrumentals??…and a poster???
    (alright, I don’t need a poster)

    Whoa…

  39. B.Eveready says:

I gotta say around 46k…but they’ll do numbers long after the first week is over….

  40. Mr.Foote says:

    10,001.

That shit is all over the internets already.

  41. A Weezy says:

I’m gonna say 82K on this jawn

  42. Thomas says:

    37,598K

I’m copping from Best Buy next week. Not sure in this day and age of RS, MUL, ShareB, etc that anyone is gonna buy that joint.

Royce and Joell own this album.

  43. Polo P says:

    I am going with 77,500l

  44. jjones says:

    62,400

  45. wax says:
