Good for me to see again too because I’ve been doing some work on Jackie Robinson and his testimony before HUAC in 1949, which was foul set-up to make Jackie denounce Paul Robeson… Mainstream sports turds don’t like to recall it but regardless of what Robeson did, or did not say… the Communist Party– especially New York– had been very active, vocal opponents of segregated baseball.
Sidenote: I have all sorts of issues with Spike as writer/director but got-damn, it’s hard to believe he hasn’t been able to make his Jackie movie yet.
Good fall trip, btw: visit Jackie’s family gravesite out in Cypress Hills Cemetery, do some sneaker fiending in ENY or Woodhaven afterwards.

dude is 110% proudly both African, & Puerto Rican, & will tell you so multiple times on his albums, where he has a sick flow & ill lyricism rapping in Spanish, better than any American mainstream rapper, with a few possible exceptions like Black Thought. Tego rocks the ill afro.

Its a collection of his letters and correspondence with people from baseball, civil rights, and presidents. Its truly a fascinating, informative, and inspirational read. I recommend it highly.
@Merc – That drop is merely a taste. I have a full blown dissertation (that I need to write) on the parallels of baseball and America. Its actually quite frightening the indicator baseball is in looking at where we are as a country (socially, economically, politically, ethically, legally, consumerism, et al.) I’m sure I can knock out a couple hundred pages rambling about it, or just give me a stoop, a Saturday and a satchel of Crown Royal and I’ll talk your ear off about it.
