DP’s ‘Lo-End Theory Adventures…

lirr

A hunting we will go…

Last week we went on a wild mission to come up on some goodies at the A.J.Wright yellow ticket sales. The picking were disappointingly slim although I did get a handful of pieces I will be giving away over here.

*I apologize to everyone that I owe a prize to but I am shipping out six(6) boxes of winnings and various snail mail so please sit tight a few more days*

This week’s public transit mission was a lot more direct but almost as long as last week’s WestChester excursion. Since I got my day job paycheck I wanted to give myself a little Polo Ralph Lauren lifestyle retail therapy. I plotted a jump to the Walt Whitman mall in Huntington. That’s Long Island, New York for those of you that might give a fux. Walt Whitman used to be my private Idaho for Polo I.T.’s. I always found pieces in 2X.

The advantage I loved about Walt Whitman was that the mall had three of my favorite department stores all in the same building. Lord & Taylor, Macy*s and Bloomingdale’s all together. I’m bound to get something fresh from one of these outlets. I haven’t fuxed with Walt Whitman in a minute tho’. I wondered if my favorite clerks were on the sales floor. My girl at Bloomingdale’s was still around and she was happy to see me. She complimented me on my Nordic lambswool sweater and matching wool socks.

Bloomingdale’s was tapped out tho’. The only thing I found was Lake Placid ball cap. It had a patch on the crown and some other details. My girl added the 15% off store coupon to the already reduced clearance price for a total of $12 bucks so I copped two(2). One to rock and one to put on ice. I don’t say this to people because it doesn’t matter to me like that but I started the saying of putting gear on ice. I used to sell shit on eBay and some of my I.T.’s still had the tags on them. I told my bidders that I kept my pieces on ice like Walt Disney. I was just saving them for a later day when I would remove them from their cryogenic stasis.

lo scarf

Lord’s didn’t have shit either but Macy*s had these Olympic scarves on sale for $34 so I added this to the archives. The scarf can be a consolation prize sometimes when you are on the hunt. Rugby’s and knits are the gold medal joints, while a polo or a funky ski hat are in the silver medal range. Even tho’ this scarf is a bronze medal it’s like an Apolo Ohno bronze since I already have so many medals in my collection.

Since I was in Suffolk county I knew better than to play around and get stuck waiting on public transportation. My shopping mission was perfectly timed to catch the bus returning to the Amityville LIRR train station. When I got to the station I saw that my next train to Brooklyn wasn’t arriving for another hour. What the fux?! A train was arriving headed in the opposite direction so I hopped on it to keep warm. This was how I won. By going out to Babylon I could catch an express train back to the city.

I arrived in Brooklyn in time to walk the floor of the Marshall’s at Atlantic Terminal. Marshall’s has ‘Lo I.T.’s from time to time. I’ve actually caught some heat up in Marshall’s on the low [ll]. Tonight’s Marshall’s comeup wasn’t clothing tho’, it was kicks. The Air Jordan 2009 has been on sale all around the city for the low low price of $50 but never in my size. Marshall’s ticket was $60 and the OG box price was $190. I like getting kicks from Marshall’s because just like a sneaker store Marshall’s has them in boxes. The Air Jordan 2009 box is shaped so retarded I don’t know how I’m going to stash these in my museum.

stealth

All this shopping was my T-Mobile bill. I should have gone to a camera store tho’ and bought the memory stick for my video camera. I think y’all would have enjoyed my documentary of all the douchenozzles in the mall. Maybe I’ll get that joint tomorrow. Unless y’all don’t mind all of this reading?

BTW Good looking out D, I got something from you the first day I really escaped after being snowed in.

  2. BIGNAT says:

no one should mind reading it’s okay dp the visuals just add to the overall experience of coming to dallaspenn.com.

  3. 40 says:

Nice come ups for a grand total of a little over a buck. I’ve been eyeing those J’s in that colorway just because I’ve seen them for so damn cheap. If you see some more of them J’s holler! Nice adventure there DP.

  4. twerkolator says:

” I told my bidders that I kept my pieces on ice like Walt Disney”

sorry dp, i HAVE to bite this shit! (nhjic)

  5. $yk! says:

I knew you didn’t come home empty handed from the last excursion, it would be folly.

  6. RTHSTN says:

    That Polo joint is fresh!

  7. SUPERBADSOLACE says:

i was gonna pay retail for that scarf but it felt too thin for me to do that. You def caught it for the right price. You can never go wrong with flags and certain dates on some pieces….Although i don’t think the aesthetics don’t outweigh the comfort/quality of those kicks, theres a lot of science behind the concepts of the aj2009. A great friend/mentor of mine designed those. Read this interview complex did with him…pretty dope. http://www.complex.com/blogs/2009/01/08/designer-jason-mayden-breaks-down-the-jordan-2009/

  8. the_dallas says:

You gotta see how I rox the scarf. I’ma be on some Sweet 16 shit [ll] the day I rox my head to toe setup.

I don’t fux with Jordan brand as much now but I appreciated the Air Jordsan 2009 on some technical shit.

Chocolate Snowflake loves to tease me about my collections. She calls me action figures ‘dolls’ and she called these Jordans ‘high heels’. She’s lucky that I love her so much or I would’a done been left her for a more understanding broad.

  9. getthesenets says:

What did you Lo heads do during the tommy hill era?

did you go underground or did you conform?

  10. the_dallas says:

The Tommy Hill era was similar to the Noni juice craze. Only meatwads bought into that shit

  11. getthesenets says:

NY,NJ,CT during that era…..tommy hill was EVERYWHERE……there was a LOT of meatwads out here…

I remember SNL had a skit when Chris Rock came back and hosted…..and there was a gameshow and the parting gifts were read by the voiceover guy.
” our runner up guests get tommy hillfiger wallpaper, for their rooms, KID”

he said “KID”…I was finished after that…..

TH was the uniform out here for a good 5 year run

  12. dmitry kaka brooklyn jew says:

DP u already know Marshalls and T.J. maxx is da place to be. Dey have mad polo gears. But i did find some nice polo shirts for spring and summer on sale at my local Lord &Taylor.

  13. the_dallas says:

Cross Colors had a run of popularity too as did Karl Kani and FuBu and Donna Karan and a lot of other brands. Tommy Hilfiger was never my uniform. When they first dropped with their pastel button downs I had a few pieces but when they became Polo RL swag jackers it wasn’t fresh to me no more.

I’m sure a lot of people who didn’t know the difference nor did they care copped Tommy Hill. It was definitely popular but so is ghey sex [ll].

    I’m just not buying it.

  14. $yk! says:

    Don’t forget Nautica had it’s run too…

  15. getthesenets says:

    Dals,

remember the “broken english” broken language song by smoothe and trigga?

not 1 Lo reference in the ENTIRE song…..and that was an NY anthem…..and def. a BK anthem….

    no love to Lo….

    the nautica wearer…..($yk)

  16. getthesenets says:

I had a line in my earlier post about Tommy jacking Mr. Lipshitz’ swag, steelo,etc.. and Mr. Simmons hijacked both of them for phat farm

    erased it by accident..

In the middle of the TH fest of the early to mid 1990s..

I saw an ad for Thirstin Howl….in the source or one of those mags….and I couldn’t believe how outrageous Lo he was…

i found out who he was and his background later but I NEVER saw anybody so just ostentatious with it.

Not being a new yorker….I always associated Lo with Harlem….thought the Lifes were from uptown…kinda threw me off when I found out where they were from cause BK is like Newark in some ways……

    =============================

    Lo is definitely classic material

lot of the brands that were also big in the TH era are over now…..

  17. $yk! says:

Once Hilfiger went with the flag instead of the crest, that’s when they fell off. I remember when if you had the juice (II), you could go upstairs on 39th st and get an exclusive shirt for free (endorsement)…dP is right, when they went heavy RL (sport) it wasn’t cool anymore…but Nauti was fly too (the old, wider boat, and they fell off when they changed it) with the sweaters, rugby & sweatpant sets, the coats, hats and the polos. They really started the fleece thing, well made fleece popular I should say. But they did jack the ‘Lo Ranger boot & Timb moc.

Actually Nauti & Hilfiger fell off when they went commercial, instead of staying boutique. I have a crest Hilfiger hat & polo for memories, a Nauti fleece warmup set, and lot more ‘Lo.

But the Lifes were/are a team, cats had to come up outta that ‘Lo @ certain times in certain places. To me, growing up in Bed-Stuy , BK during the glory ages the Lifes were the flyest clique.

  18. the_dallas says:

    Get, $YK,
Nauti had a run too of course and I def copped some Nauti pieces over the years. TH and Nauti must have poached designers from RL over the years but they could never real come up with iconographic designs or logos like the PRL camp.

  19. $yk! says:

True that. Like the teddy bear PRL, iconic.

The new Nauti logo looks like a Helly Hansen rip-off.

  20. the_dallas says:

    $yk,
Remember Helly-Hansen? That was my dude Gudtyme’s brand. He had like four or five of their jackets. Them shits was hardbody official yacht rock joints. He had a shit that when you pulled the tab a light beacon popped off.

Nauti new logo is a cheap Helly-Hansen knockoff

  21. DirtyJerz says:

Word Is Bawn! I used to fux with Helly-Hansen and Nautica was my sh*t! I we used to collect them spongy floating keychains that came with the jackets! LOL. Them shitz would miraculously jump into my Jansport when security was playin me too close so I couldn’t switch up the ‘Lo price tags @ Bamberger’s!
I used to also fux with Descente….that was one of my Paragon exclusive high-tech joints that I would splash on NJ cats!
    Jerz. Out.

  22. the_dallas says:

    Jerz,
I caught this Spyder jacket from TJMaxx last year on clearance for $50 and I have been dying to splash off with it. I’m poppin tags on that bitch like real soon

  23. DirtyJerz says:

$yk, Tommy started that Olive & Orange color combo that was so slick….and the first series of them striped button ups? O-ffical! The colors had no rhyme or reason, but thats what made them joint firestarters!

But notice how ALL of the designers tried to come with some corny ass “affordable & accesible” cousin to the real sh*t?
    Polo Jeans Co.
    Tommy Jeans
    Nautica Jeans Co.

    Ha!

  24. the_dallas says:

My moms gave me some Polo Jeans Co. shit one christmas and I had to explain to her that I didn’t wear that shit. Dukes was like “Why?! It’s Polo?” Actually, its not Polo, but Claiborne making that shit.

BTW, Dukes keeps it strictly blue label for me when she is tearing thru Macy*s at the Cumberland or Lenox Hill Malls in Atlanta

  25. DirtyJerz says:

Spyder been around for a minute, and I always like their jackets, but thats that nu-nu to me, cuz they finally got that 3x now in the outlets!! But my favorite sh*t these days is cabelas.com….their high tech, gore-tex, survival game is ridiculous! They are the final frontier for a parka with real fur on the hood! (Fux yo North Face!) AND their prices are proper. And the store just outside chicago is downright fascinating to a Jersey dude….Polar Bear statues, stuffed mountain lions, aquariums, guns, etc!

LOL wifey got me a Polo Jeans long sleeve tee….I use that joint to wipe my car off when I drive through the carwash.

  26. $yk! says:

    Oh sh*t! Bamberger’s??? LOL WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

    “basic training”

The Ellesse suits & Fila shirts would join us for a breath of fresh air outside of Paragon…I was rocking Patagonia with the Scott goggles when cats were on the Columbia steez…

I had 3 of them Helly-Hansen jackets, blu/red/white, white/blu/lt blu, white/yellow/blu. I didn’t have the beacon though, my homie D-Rock had that. Strictly cheese boots, rugby’s and the Helly-Hans…Hilfiger was biting with them color-block sailing shirts that used to bleed into the white…

  27. the_dallas says:

I never got to fux with Bamberger’s. Were they even in NYC? I did fux with Gimbel’s, Ohrbach’s and Abraham & Strauss. But all of that was in my husky Osh Kosh B’Gosh days

The architects that brought me into the game opened an office on 14th Street and Paragon became a weekly experience (I got paid weekly). I copped two Tag-Heuer Formula 1 watches from there as well as hell’a Tim, North Face and all manner of shit. The most official winter jacket I ever owned was made by a company called Wilderness Experience. That was the most HARDBODY jacket ever. Shit was bombproof. I got that at a spot downtown which is still open called Tent & Trails.

  28. $yk! says:

    Y’all typing too fast!!!!

Spyder????? WOOOOOOOOO!!!! I have been looking for a minute for a Spyder on sale.

Cabelas took over that Woolrich demand IMO…Eddie Bauer used to sell an official gore-tex suit too. Co-sign the Hilfiger button ups were bomb status. I never wasted a cent on the “jean” affiliates. Bootlegging yourself.

One thing I regret is trading a reversible Nauti jacket (blu/evergrn plaid-charcoal/navy blu/evergrn fleece) for a goose Face, the one with the goose hoodie, in 2007 to my cuzzo. The Face practically came apart, I gave that to Goodwill in November. The Nauti was mint…

  29. $yk! says:

    Tents is still open??? Dayum!

My ultimate winter jacket was the Woolrich khaki colored parka, then the navy blu patagonia goose. I can’t lie, I stayed fresh to def. Even changed wardrobe to go to the store, every single trip. I’ma go back in time and wear Reebok ex-o-fits (no 54.11’s, mid workouts, they don’t make the lows with the gum sole) w/polos and khaki’s or full sweatsuits this spring/summer. All I need are some Cazals…

  30. DirtyJerz says:

LOL….Scott goggles!?!?! yo, I missed the boat on them joints…like I stay missing the boat on them neon AM95’s. They retro’ed them about 10 times, and as much as I like them, never copped. shame. When they drop, I’m always just getting that pink bill from the cable company. You know when that pink bill comes, its only a matter of days.

I can’t front, I was fuxin’ with Columbia hardbody! $yk, i always salute a cat that knows quality outerwearz, even the not-so-logo-heavy stuff.

Bamberger’s was def NJ all day, I was always tryna figure out a way to bamboozle their price tags! cuz my MomDukes was shopping for me @ Alexander’s, and they just wasn’t futuristic enough for a young DirtyJerz! A&S was where I got my first credit card, and it’s also ground zero my financial meltdown.

  31. DirtyJerz says:

    ‘member gettin’ paid weekly!?!?!?LOLz

  32. $yk! says:

Salutes! Columbia is made over here in OR…outlet for like 50-80% off…I used to work @ Queens Mall A&S…my homie used to meet a ‘Lo product that always wanted to go home with him after every shift…

  33. the_dallas says:

    Jerz,
You a Whirlibird or Bugaboo[ll] dude?

    $yk,
I might need you to cop me some 4X cargo pants with the legs zip-off into shorts

  34. the_dallas says:

Looking at the pic of the AJ 2009s I see why Chocolate Snowflake called them high heels for boys.

  35. DirtyJerz says:

Good Morinin’ my G’s! Wheaties FUEL FTMFW! although, I’m not sure if I like cornball ass Peyton Manning ice grillin’ me @ the kitchen table!

$yk, the all black Reebok workout mids are on the ice bench in my closet, waiting to get back in the game.
LOL DP, Bugaboo all day! if it didn’t say it on the collar, it wasn’t mine! I might have to get me a few pieces just for the books this year!

  36. $yk! says:

    Jerz! Whatup!

I’m going in on Saturday (II), hittin’ the outlets and I expect to bring back 2 wht pairs & 1 blk of Reeboks. Hit the ‘Lo outlet for pickings and swoop by Columbo 4 dP…family needs a camera to start putting the wins up on bboycult…

  37. DirtyJerz says:

Word Is Bawn! $yk, start postin them joints….Early!
I’m taking the 2 hr. drive to Tulsa this weekend for my Marshalls/Ross fix that I miss dearly. No outlets in that area, but the week after, I’m headed to Branson, MO outlets to hit up the the Nike Store & ‘Lo spot…they neva eva have the big man IT’s, but they always got that fiya for my dog…ima start posting his ‘Lo rugby status on yall!

It’s a damn journey to got to them, but these mid-west Nike Outlets are the best graveyards ever!

  38. getthesenets says:

    $yk,

those Col. pants are the most comfortable pants ever….they’re better than the windpants because they’re more versatile…..

    ————

    Jerz,

you must come off grandly out there…we used to head to Reading,PA before everybody and their grandmother started heading out there…

the mid west spots must be easy pickins…

  39. $yk! says:

Jerz you ain’t lying. I caught a Nike outlet off of HWY 80 in Iowa. Official sales with the suits & kix for the gf. They didn’t have the boots in my size 11/11.5 though. I have a Ross like a 5 min. bike ride away from me, I don’t even go there. Maybe I should do some recon, but these cats don’t know good gear. But then again that’s my cue ain’t it????

get you ever been to the outlet town in Vermont? We used to rent vans for that Reading trip. yeah the Columbo gear is needed over here when the rain/sunny/rain spring weather comes around, like in the next 2 weeks. That’s why I’m going to stack up.

  40. DirtyJerz says:

Get, I call myself “savings some paper” while I’m out here….they got all types of ridiculous come-ups! now I see why most of my eBay purchases are from people in the mid-west!

Reading used to be that spot…I heard the outlets are non-existent out there these days.

  41. the_dallas says:

    $YK,
Take it from Jerz and me and stop sleeping on Ross Stores (no Rawss). When I was in the A they had a pair of Oakley ski goggles on clearance and I fronted. I am KICKING myself right now.

    Jerz,
I am looking at April 10th for the ‘Lo-End Theory event but I haven’t nailed down the venue just yet. I was gonna rock that I.T. you just sent me but I have a hard time poppin’ tags. I be loving to keep shit in the plastic.

    Get,
What up? I got that DVD for you bagged and tagged. You should have it before the week is done.

  42. getthesenets says:

    dal,

    thank you.

    ——————-
    $yk,

never been that far to vermont……we hit reading, couple of outlet spots in ….secaucus..and woodbridge commons(there was a bus from port authority).

once i saw people i knew at either of the spots i stopped going…
    ==========================

    jerz,

bambergers? takin it back..if you fuxed with bams….you definitely remember bun-als and universal sneaker shops…and then later dr. jays…

never beeb heavy into gear or sneakers……..but i used to fux with sneaker world in bloomfield just so i didn’t wear exactly what every other dude had.

  43. DirtyJerz says:

    Bun Als!?!?!? LOL chea!

DP….April 10th sounds like a plan…flights are cheap, just lemme know when it’s solid(ll). Wifey and her homegirls are meeting up for spa weekend in Manhattan that week and they rented an apartment…I may have to raid that piece!

Pop that tag, B! That ‘Lo and them kicks have turned into the trading card game. We used to clip them shits onto the fork of our bikes with a clothespin just to make noise. Then the Shaq rookie card came out and sh*t got serious. Who the fux knew i was supposed to seal them sh*ts in airtight acid free hermitically sealed plastic? Flipping cards and putting them on my bike was the fun sh*t. Try selling your comic or trading card collection now, and storeowners will laugh @ you and yo’ Joe Montana rookie card. or shoot you some straight up disrespectful price.
