The forecast predicted rain in the afternoon but the weatherman didn’t even know that the reign would not fall as long as thousands of Hip-Hop fans came out to show their support.
The god MC Rakim would grace NYC with a free performance at the Rumsey Playfield SummerStage and bring out some of his friends to rock the stage along with the greatest rapper of all time.
Rakim is a lyrical scientist who crafts verses filled with double entendre and polysyllabic words. I will never forget how Thundercracker used to transcribe Rakim verses and just marvel at the wordplay which made him open a dictionary to achieve full comprehension.
Rakim paced the stage from left to right making sure everyone saw the visage of your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper. This was his triumphant moment in the heart of New York City.
The congregation raised their hands in salutes and tributes to what ended up being a perfect sunshower afternoon filled with Hip-Hop.
The fun doesn’t stop over here at dP.com because I have a free FLuD watch for the first person who can name all the dudes in these pics with me.
If only even ONE of those brilliant Ra verses was more recent than what… 1992?
Not to say I’m not grateful for what was but damn Eric B. took something ESSENTIAL with him besides the dookie ropes. A shame too because as a fan I would have liked to hear what an even more mature Rakim was like– none of three dogshit solos he released or x # of mediocre-at-best guest spots has given me even a glimpse, alas.
E double and scratch, im not gonna cheat and say i know the third
I’m ashamed that I can’t name the last…normally I have the answer and get on late. Now I have a chance and look what happens.
I’m in for the pickem league…yahoo is fuxing with me for some reason.
Also, I call foul on these ‘putzes’ in their Yankee caps, Rakim included– they are subverting NOTHING except saying yes, Giuliania and Steinbrenner were OK after all.
Not that I support the politics of the Mets, Knicks, Rangers etc but how about a little goddamn individual hip-hop style? Phillies P >>>>>> any/every Yankees fitted too and I’d tell all these dudes in person too. (Brooklyn Royal Giants FTW.)
Photo #1) Fizzy Womack from MOP, rockin’ the headband, salut
Photo #2) Dude from mailroom at Ruck Down, forget his name, real nice guy, lousy hat–

Photo #3) I can’t remember dude’s name but we played handball a lot at Crotona when I was hanging with a gal in the Bronx; strong serve, no left hand so I’d run his ass ragged (II) and usually win. Lousy hat even if he’s half-Irish.
1. Erick Sermon
2.DJ Scratch
3. Supreme Magnetic
random question: why on his albums, did Erick Sermon nickname himself “the E double”?
ToneRiggz FTW.
Great footage ToneRiggz, at this event and the BYOBBQ
Thank you sir. How do I receive the watch? Is there an email I can send my info?

^ LOL…GONG!
c’mon Lamar…I remember that Yankee rant from before…brothers played for the Yankees too…without Reggie, Mickey, & Chris there would be no rings in 77-78…Bernie Williams, Jeter, Mo Rivera are not George’s Yankees, he was banished at that time…Gooden & Strawberry got 2nd chances wearing pinstripes…
the more you pay attention to Rudy & George, the more you forget what the brothers meant and did for the Yankees of our generation…bottom line…
and once again I miss a dP merchandise giveaway…nhjic
If I would have been in my right state of mind, we would have made that trip to see Rakim perfrom. And I missed out on another merchendise give away.
Hmm it seems like your site ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any tips for beginner blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.
