Cinematek at the Brooklyn Academy of Music is screening one of my favorite movies of all time. The Dark Crystal is a masterpiece of muppetry and storytelling. This was Jim Henson’s darkest and greatest single piece of work. I get chills everytime I watch the Skexxies come onscreen.

Yo d did you know that Kevin clash(voice of Elmo) had to pass on doing the dark crystal whit Jim cause he had two jobs already he was on captn kangaroo and the great space coaster! Word if you have not see his movie do so, took the kids to see it at IFC theater on w3rd. Flick was very inspirational. FYI he worked on labyrinth(sp).

I’m not familiar with this film; knowing your admiration for Ralph Bakshi, DP, would you compare it to post-“Coonskin” films like “Wizards” or “Fire and Ice” in terms of fantasy reinvention?
MGS, Dark Crystal was a lot darker than Wizards and Fire and Ice with the same amount of fantasy thrown in. Henson’s storytelling ability is different than Bakshi who is always in your face and stark.
Dark Crystal is also shot beautifully and I can’t wait to see it on a big screen again
