WAR MACHINE > IRON MAN

The latest news down the Marvel Comics movie pipeline is that TERRENCE ‘SLICKBACK’ HOWARD has been cast as James Rhodes in the upcoming ‘Iron Man’ movie. I wasn’t so sure that I liked this choice from the outset, not because of TERRENCE, who is incidentally bringing lightskin brothers all the way back, but because he IS a lightskinned Black man. I thought this character should have been a darker complexion Black man. There are several dudes that come to my mind that could have filled the role.

DEREK LUKE – MORRIS CHESTNUT – TAYE DIGGS
All of these guys would have made a solid character, but instead the studio goes with the one Black guy other than DENZEL that would be known outside of the Black community. I also think there is the unspoken rule that disallows heroicism from a dark-skinned male. O.K., maybe I’m reaching on that last one. TERRENCE is lights out and I think he’ll be a credible superhero, it’s just that I am still smarting from the producers of the X-Men series not using the chocolate goddess, ANGELA BASSETT, to play the Storm character.

The buzz so far has been the attempts of the producers to retain the fidelity of the character’s storyline while making the production relavent to new action hero fans. I’m anxious to see how Slickback does in this film. If he wasn’t cast in OutKast’s ‘Idlewild’ I would never have been able to stay awake through the whole film.

    Interesting…Terrence Howard???

I feel you on Storm in X-men too. I was a bit upset about that….Angela was my pick for Storm. She strongly favors her in the comics..

As long as they don’t try and kill him off in the first 30 seconds, and have Iron Man on a quest for the killer throughout the rest of the movie…

You know how Hollywood plays the bros….

  3. Amadeo says:

I think every sane person thought Angela would have been the best Storm…I gotta deduct points for listing Taye Diggs though…seems like he plays a lot of bitch-type dudes.

  4. Sangano says:

so is the movie gonna be about Tony Starks or War Machine?…or both, or am i missing something?

DP, your boy Terrence howard sold out a long time ago, tell him to take those flowing canals out of his hair after he snatches the du rag off, then maybe we can included TH in any progressive conversation.

Terrence is a good choice for War machine even though he was darker. I would have been glad with Morris Chesnut, but I like T.H. too. I TOTALLY agree about Angela Bassett for Storm. I mean she is a dead ringer! She looks just like her. Halle Berry looks nothing like her.

It’s probably going to be the origin jump off with Rhodey being Tone’s lil man’s an ’em. They’re probably going to wrap it up with Tone enjoying just a bit too much of that Jesus Juice, leading into Iron Man II, where War Machine get’s some play whilst Starks is drying off. I really mutha effin have my fingers crossed on this piece. I hope more Spidey than Fantastic Four, more X-men than Hulk, more Blade than Daredevil (although I must be the only kat that kinda dug Daredevil).

    ^C.J.,
I think that I’m the only cat that dug all the Marvel joints (even the Dolph Lundgren ‘Punisher’). If people wasn’t smelling DD then they never was fan’s of the book or the Elektra saga.

Iron Man could be one of their best yet. I trust Downey and Howard to put in the work to get their characters right, its just that whenever a Black character is cast it seems like they always do it based on a popularity scale. Derek Luke is fucking lights out in his new movie with Tim Robbins,

Just came home from a hipster party in DUMBO with C.S. Had too much beer. Going to sleep now. Have to be at work by 8am. Damn this blogging shiite! It’s like crack.

Cosign. You’re not reaching at all. 100% accurate.

  10. Sangano says:

dallas daredevil was dark but thats my problem with the candy ass version they made for hollywood..toooo bubblegum..they coulda made this a Crow type jumpoff

  11. Vee says:

I can’t cosign Taye Diggs. He does his thing in some roles, but other than that I don’t think he’s good for an action movie. I saw Equilibrium. Horrible.
Derek Luke might be able to pull it off, but out of those cats, Morris would probably work well because he looks like Rhodes.

  12. Candice says:

Slickback may be able to pull it off. Say what you want about Mr. Howard. He is a good actor.

I am more worried about Robert Downey playing Tony Starks.

  13. Fin says:

Co-sign with Sangano on DD; the movie was way too fluffy and playful, I think they tried too hard to get the audience to like all the characters and the actors never seemed like they fit in the roles.

  14. Skeeter Valentine says:

Derek Luke would have been a good choice. The only thing i see setting Terrence Howard back is his skin tone and that he doesn’t look like that crazy black man.
