B.E.T. = The Miseducation Of The Negro… Network

jig tv

When I was approached several months ago by the producers of the upcoming television program ‘Hot Ghetto Mess’ I will admit to you that I was a little wary of the production. ESPECIALLY because it was being broadcast on Black Entertainment Television. That network is so bereft of quality programming I immediately knew this show would be clown shoes trash. Still, the producers hounded me and I will admit I was tempted to submit to their overtures until it finally dawned on me that I would have no input whatsoever on the direction of this show.

‘Hot Ghetto Mess’ is more than a train wreck. It’s the final nail in the coon coffin that Black Entertainment Television is burying themselves in. This situation is worse than B.E.T. simply being irrelevant to Black people, but as the barometer for Black culture worldwide, B.E.T. is spreading an AIDS virus of imagery. And who sits atop this broadcast factory of false and fictional Black images? Who is the chief purveyor? A woman named DEBRA LEE.

It’s time to disinvest from every company that does business with B.E.T. It’s not simply good enough for sponsors like the Home Depot and AllState Insurance company to have their commercials reconfigured to other time slots because B.E.T. will still use those monies to produce their mindless content. You have to replace your Home Depot purchases by shopping at a Lowe’s Home Center and AllState Insurance should be replaced with anyone else. These companies are complicit with the production of the bullshit on B.E.T., and if we go to them directly and illustrate how we feel with our dollars and our SEN$ES they will have no other option but to divest from the Negro Network.

fuck bet, fuck allstate, viacom, home depot and the rest of these blood-sucking leeches. can’t we all see that this is our war? our parents fucked up, do we need to sit back and be complacent? d, we have talked about our commitment to community, but what about our mobilization against these fuckers? its a dubious path for us (especially those with kids), but really, what greater legacy can we leave for our kids than their parents being fighters of freedom?

    Kill your television.

It’s telling lies to your vision.

    So very true!!!!!

I think that cartoon character “Cita” might have been the first nail.

BET is such a misrepresentation of our people and culture. I don’t even watch videos on the channel anymore. What happened to the quality?
Shows like the Nightly News with Ed Gordon, Teen Summit etc….were replaced with a large serving of coonery garnished with shenanigans.

I flip right past BET and will continue to do so. As for it’s sponsors……I can pass as well.

BET has one decent show that comes on Sundays. It is called “Meet The Faith”. Very good show, with good topics. The only problem is the show is only 30 minutes longs, needs to be a hour. I think BET only cares about making money and keeping viewers in front of the tv. They need some shows about how to stay healthy, how to make some/save money, anything on politics. There is nothing wrong with a little education and entertainment. Get it together BET. Peace.

    Amen to this.

B.E.T. is overflowing with trash and it’s time for a change. These are educated black people who are running this network into the ground and have got to be cognizant of the damage that they are doing to the perception of their fellow blacks in this country and blacks around the world. We have to demand better and it starts by removing those in power over at that network and replacing them with people who have OUR best interests at heart. Easier said than done, but as stated the best way to let your voice be heard in this country is to speak with your wallet.

    Cash Still Rules.

This is the reason why I hardly watch BET.

We all know TV One is the real Black Entertainment Television anyways.

  9. Jordan says:

Thank You for airing out B.E.T . If you ever get a chance just watch BET on mute and you will see exactly what they want you to believe. Sad situation but TV has turned on us. The web is here to give us what we are missing.

I have gone back and forth about the whole BET thing but at the end of the day I’ve never been able to actually allow myself to work with them. I mean they aren’t known for quality and they won’t pay for what they need in order to create interesting programing.

Hot Ghetto Mess isn’t even something I would consider. When they came up with Baldwin Hills I was on the fence until the Producers tried to feed me some line about educating people on the fact that there’s a black middle class. I laughed in their face, poor black people have always known about rich black people that ain’t nothing new!

B.E.T might just need some healthy competition to step there game up.
If TV One is not available in your area you should contact your cable / satellite providers.

I’m not sure if the upper management for B.E.T should be removed. I believe if we show our content for the current programming with our voices and keep our dollars in our pocket and don’t support the network the changes will flow.

I hope everyone here calls, emails and writes BET with their complaints, comments and suggestions.

BET is an embarrassment and has been for the last 10-15 years or so. Who wasn’t excited about this network back in the day? Remember Video Soul? Once they got rid of the nightly news, I was pretty much done with the network. Why would they think news that focused on our community wasn’t important to us?

I sometimes will turn to the channel just to see what kind of BS is on there. Have you all seen the dating show with the midget people in the devil costumes? Ish is absolutely ridiculous!

I’m so glad that people are still talking about this issue. That network should pretty much go away. I was reading online yesterday about this “Hot Ghetto Mess” Show and someone mentioned that even though we as consumers tune out the network, we still pay the them with our cable subscription dollars. That’s messed up.

I’m ready to petition or do what ever I have to do to get rid of this network. They’ve been going too far for many years.

@ Big Homie. I agree, TV One has some really good programs on their channel.

  13. Candice says:

TV One does have better programming. G. Garvin is the realest black chef on TV.

and for Videos, I roll to VH1 Soul. (although it’s all Viacom) at least they show a range of videos that aren’t all poppin, lockin and droppin.

  14. Lion XL says:

In reality I think the problem begins with Viacom. They support and pay for shit programming. Look at the crap they put on thier other stations? They do not care enough to spend extra dollars for quality programming on BET, when they wont even do it elsewhere.

Dont be mislead, We can’t stop this shit, because guess what, we are not the ones watching this shit. The White is laughing hella hard at these coon images and dont care how degrading it is to US.

The only solution is to ‘KILL YOUR TELEVISION’! , and then KILL YOUR RADIO!, then BURN YOUR MAGAZINES!. The powers that control these media outlets don’t give a damn about us.

We have come full circle to a point where everything we think is real is false, and everything false is imaginary. There is no truth, the world is built on lies. THINK FOR YOURSELF!!!
