ELECTING SHAWN COREY CARTER…

shawnimage credits: Agent B

I imagine that a few of you used yesterday’s Election Day to cast a few votes of your own. From local assemblyman races to state representative seats Americans were letting their voices be heard. The loudest votes that are made aren’t at the polls however, but at the cash registers. Americans spend $60 billion dollars a day (actually, $2B more than they earn). So while some of you think that the levers, or buttons you selected will determine your services in the future it was most probably the opening and closing of your wallet that really does the choosing.

Some of you may have even purchased Jay-Z’s latest album. I give Def Jam’s president Jay-Z all the credit for releasing an album on a day where the malls would be a little more crowded and buzzing than usual. ‘American Gangster’ makes up somewhat for his lazy effort from last year ‘Kingdome Come’, but it still doesn’t reach the classic album status. Jay-Z’s dope dealing caricature was always an exaggeration that exceeded reality and finally he’s come to the part of the show where even he has to realize that WE realize this.

Still, Jay-Z rises to the occasion with a bevy of mainstream media outlets trumpeting the return of his grand hustle (no Fed gun charges). Even the New York Times hip-hop homo journalist submitted a glowing review of this album. Life will always be good for Jay-Z now. He’s crossed that threshold where acclaim and criticism still equals profit. GOD bless his heart, GOD save his soul. I had a few votes to place on this Election Day other than my ‘American Gangster’ selection and here’s how I kept it moving.

McGriddles bacon, egg & cheese sandwich – $2.79

McDonald’s iced coffee(large) – $2.19

Electric bill – $73.56

Blank CD-R media $17.99

CD laser copier labels – $20.99

Dishwashing detergent – $1.99

Orange juice (2) containers – $8.00

Reuben sandwich platter – $10.75

GOD bless America, GOD save our soul.

Am i the only one in the world who thinks Jay’s new album move was a little cowardly?

Rememeber when Dre left Death Row and said he was putting all the gangsta shit behind him? Then that Aftermath album sunk like BigMac-made turd. So what does he do for the next album? He took that tux off and went right back to them Carhartts (Even tho he was never really a thug like that to begin with, but thats another story)

Jay-Z last album, while a little wack, was at least honest. it was about his life at that point in time. The idea that he was watching early screeners of American gangster and thinking “Yo, I used to be baaad, son. like Frank Lucas baaad. Maybe i should rap about it” is laaaaaaaame. That’s like Sir Mix a Lot watching the Kim Kardashian show thinking “I should do a song about healthy butts”.

Whens the last time he even SOLD coke? If its been over a dozen years (and it shonuf has. Damn i’m getn old) then can the coke deal talk. We get it.

Jay! it’s already been done. BY YOU!!!!

Jay Z should be hookin Africans up with water, gettin minorities to vote, getting the Nets over to Brooklyn, and keeping LL’s albums far away from the public. Yknow POSITIVE shit. He’s got a lot of bad karma he’s gotta make up for (you know, hurting families, killing addicts, poisoning already fucked up neighborhoods, doing the best of Both Worlds album). And goin back to coke deal bragging, albeit stylishly, is not moving forward.

but thats just my stupid ass opinion. Maybe i should start drinkin that kool aid again and bob my head.

Homie even pulled it off of iTunes because he didn’t want people picking individual tracks…I kinda feel him on that but c’mon man!

This album is slightly more palatable to the masses than “Kingdom Come” but I liked “Kingdom Come” to start with. Damn New York is expensive to live in! Luckily, I’m a damn pirate who gets almost everything for free. When I sell my first script or screenplay I’ll start spending like a regular human again.

Good looks on that package, my dude. Got it in the mail today.

    One.

I’ll probably get the CD at some point or download the CD (for free) out of curiosity but I’m not in a rush. What I heard so far was not trash but not phenomenal material. I cosign the sentiment. At this point in his career, running down the ups and downs of his coke career because he was inspired by the AG movie . . . is simply lame.

Then again I’ll say the same thing for rest of the rappers claiming they’re bosses, and moved keys throughout U.S. cities. But whatever, most of it is just fictional fluff made for movies, television and books.

@vee, make sure and hit me up with an email for that listen.

@cd : cosign on it all. same reason that I can’t stand to hear 35 year old rockers still going on about high school relationships and how growing up is so tough. unless you’re still at home in jersey with the bon jovi poster on your wall then step it up to reality.

I voted for cannabis indica, the Green Party party.

  6. Dallas,

how do you go to McD’s and get any beverage aside from the $1 sweet tea?! That’s heaven in a non-eco friendly styrofoam cup.

big ol’ boo to their iced coffee.

  9. the_dallas says:

^ Fam, do you know how rich you have to be just to be poor in NYC?
