Will Miss Rap Reign Supreme?

miss rap supreme

Billy X. Sunday only wants to interview XXL Eye Candy.

The ego trip collective brings us their latest rap music survivor contest with the show ‘Miss Rap Supreme’ premiering tomorrow night at 10pm on Vh-1. I’m wondering though if the ladies still care about rap music like that to be a dedicated viewing audience. I know that the fellas still give a fuck about Hip-Hop, but do they care about the trials and tribulations of a woman seeking to find fame and fortune in the rap game?

The last female that I honestly wanted to hear rhyme was Rah-Digga. After she got all glammed up I felt like she lost some of her flavor. I also loved Lil’ Kim when Notorious was still alive and before she got her first nosejob. There are a bunch of other female rappers I lsort of listened to, but they all served as concubines to the alpha-male counterpart of their crew. Except Missy Elliot, and I can’t say that I have ever liked her as a rapper. Missy might be one of Hip-Hop’s greatest entertainers, but as a rapper… I think Magoo writes her shit.

Before someone shouts out Jean Grae or even Lady Luck I have to tell you that I don’t know who either of them is. Lady Luck has that verse on the Pharoahe Monch remix, but after that I couldn’t tell you who she is. Jean Grae has been on everyone’s list since forever yet she still can’t manage enough headway in the industry to get her shit out. Does the industry know something that we don’t? In this case prah’lee. The point of this show can’t be to rehash old careers. No one will watch that shit, unless you place a camera on Foxy Brown 24-7. Speaking of Fox Boogie, she is about to get out of the clink next week. Somebody needs to spool up the DV tapes for that circus.

Which asks further… Why are we watching this program in the first place? Will ‘Miss Rap Supreme’ bring rap music back into the hands of the entire community? Will folks buy the iTunes single? Will this be another lowest common denominator type series? Will a motherfucking tree grow in Brooklyn? I’m fucking with ego trip’s show for sure, but if they are just going to have a catfight every week then I might as well go to Cat Fight City.

As a matter of fact, I’m going there now.

  1. Are you checking for MC Lyte now? Or are you just saying MC Lyte because I didn’t mention her in this drop?

I just found out a couple of nights ago that one of my favorite femaile emcees, Byata is on this show…along with Khia and T Pain’s baby momma. Dammit Ego Trip! One step forward, two steps back. If this is anything like The White Rapper Show and it’s dumbass shenanigans with folks that never should’ve been cast in the first place then it’s going off hella fast.

Ain’t that Nicky Minaj chick the same girl from the classroom scene in Black & White? Sounds and looks just like her.

  3. You should have mentioned Lyte in the drop.

Jean Grae is dope though. You should check her out. Her joint with 9th Wonder is supposed to come out in the next few months. I’ll send you some of her stuff.

It can’t be half as gooftastic as The White Rapper….or can it?

  4. So you are just wasting our time asking about Lyte, basically.

First off any show with Khia in it is an automatic “gooftastic” show. Khia’s famous words about Trina right now is “SHE GOT THAT THUNDA LIGHTENIN!” whatever that means…I don’t speak tramp, but it sounds funny.

But think about it…Khia & T- Pain’s Splash Off? that’s like the D4L of female rappers. nobody is going to check this show out because they take these chicks seriously. they will tune in to see how ignant they can get.

there’s nothing more ignant than a southern female rapper.

Who’s in charge of ego trip’s casting? They should be hung off the roof upside down like good ol’ Robert Van Winkle

while i agree with this drop, i still have the show DVR’d. i mean, why would i deliberately miss ignorance?

These asshats cast G-Child, Jus Rhyme (I get it…you’re NOT racist!) and John Brown on that last show and eliminated some of the only folks with self respect and integrity from the White Rapper Show when they didn’t go for the bullshit the producers put them up to (Dasit, Sullee, etc.). This is gotta be a hot mess with high ratings. Word to The Bad Girls Club.

  8. Jean Grae is nice

Tiye Phoenix is the best rapper in her group Polyrhythm Addicts, sonning all the dude MCs in her group.

Invincible is good, but I don’t think she’s actually made a studio album yet

There has to be a market for at least ONE female rapper with actual rapping skills, that doesn’t dwell in LCD cliches like being half-naked in the videos. I don’t know why the TIs don’t give ONE of these 3 above a major label studio album deal.

I mean if major label TIs let at least a handful of dude MCs that avoid cliches such as Kweli, Common, Lupe Fiasco, etc is not their a market for ONE such woman rapper?

Supposedly Jean Grae might get a chance on Kweli’s Warner Bros sublabel, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Aka it might be dropping Neveruary 32, 3008.

Perhaps Dart Adams might have some news or topics on female rapper albums that may be dropping?

Hallelujah Holla Back….another reality rap program to join the ranks of Flavor of Love and The White Rapper. Of course people will watch it. It’s been proven time and again…..Ignorance is entertaining as shyt.

Amanda Diva’s EP was pretty damn good (save for the mix job on that 1st track)

    Invincible-ShapeShifters drops 6.17.08 (I’ve heard it…fuckin’ ridiculous!)

9th Wonder & Jean Grae’s “Jeanius” is held up cuz they don’t wanna drop it before the pushed back “Wonder Years” LP of new material. I don’t have any details on her album.

Tiye Phoenix has a new mix CD dropping this summer.

My girl Brix should have something in the works soon as well: http://www.myspace.com/brix

Everyone else is up in the air. Byata why?

There’s no profit in dignity and integrity. the media highlights the relationship between race & ignorance and promotes it for $$. the more ignorant “we” look, the more profitable we become. not even BET can get a piece of that profit.

as a matter of fact, ego trip’s shows wouldn’t be as popular as it is now if it were aired on BET.

not because BET is [supposed to be] a network tending to kneegrow interests, its because that vh-1 viewership got a shit load of white tuned in to get their laugh on.

what white wants to see another white trying to be a dignified rapper? they want to see how dumb other trash can get just to be down with the brown. and the same shit is going to happen with this “Miss Rap” shit.

Somehow or another I got a subscription for that Marc Ecko magazine (I aint pay for that shit now). They had an article about this seasons show, and they claimed to list all of the female mcs in history to “make it.” Now Im revealing my age here, but I was dissapointed to see that they left out the Sugarhill Girls.

The Sugarhill Girls were a 3 girl group that put out a record right after the Sugarhill Gang. The only song I remember is “Funk You Right On Up”, which was kinda snappy. All I know is, if the Sugarhill Gang gets mentioned as one of the first rap groups ever, then the Sugarhill Girls deserve mention too: Stop with the sexism!
    lol

  18. Maxine says:

“Funk You Up” was made by Sequence or The Sequence (Cheryl The Pearl, Angie B and Blondie), they were on Sugarhill Records and they had HELLA hits over the years before finally breaking up and Blondie went solo, Cheryl went solo and Angie B. became Angie Stone. Look ’em up here:

I’m familiar with basic hand to hand techniques and advanced fighting systems that we taught to me by several family members in the military. I fucked with Wu Xia (Wushu), Jeet Kune Do, basic principles of Gung Fu (Kung Fu) and I was good with a staff and nunchuks for a hot minute…but niggas carry guns now and I can’t catch bullets with my teeth (no Bruce Leroy).

If you know 52 Blocks and are still sharp with it we both might end up on the 6′ O Clock News on some “Nigger Moment For The Ages” shit.

Thanks for the correction Dart! I was going off my memories of purchasing that record when I was 8 or 9 (maybe 10), and I remember it had the big ass Sugarhill logo. They still deserve their props though!
