What Rap Music Supremely Misses…

mrs

If you check the archives you will see that I didn’t have such high hopes for the ego trip collective’s latest television endeavor ‘Miss Rap Supreme’. It wasn’t because I didn’t think that the ego trip team couldn’t produce compelling television since they did that with the (white) Rapper Show, but would anyone want to tune in to listen to women rap?

Rap music is so often contextualized next to professional wrestling. Mostly because the blood and beefs are faked and the rampant steroid use. I never found myself interested in women’s wrestling and I think that sentiment rings true for people listening to rap music in 2008. Rap music has shifted culturally from embodying art to representing sport, and not even graceful sports either. Most rap music nowadays grunts and bumps its head into the wall. Rightfully so too since most fans say they listen to rap in order NOT to have to think.

Where does that leave women in the creation of this music? Kudos to ego trip for trying to save Hip-Hop by injecting the female aspect back into the music. Boys kissing men on the the lips while closing their eyes was NOT the proper female aspect. The irreparable damage was already done. Jean Grae can’t do it all by herself and she rhymes better than 84.675% of the people I hear on the radio. ego trip needed to bring some futuristic female funk to the television. I’m still trying to find someone that effed with this program other than the hype machine.

Holler at me if you went in on the entire season of Miss Rap. Vh-1 needs to broadcast a bloc of the Miss Rap Supreme programs. They should do that this weekend after hours when I am home sitting on my ass looking for some shit to watch so I don’t have to think. That is how Adult Swim murders shit. The programming blocs also bring out the production narrative of the series. I don’t care anything about these broads for 30mins weekly, but for four hours on a weekend I can fuck with these bitches.

*Of course I say bitch in only the most respectful way*

I’ve watched the season…DVR alternative to my other mindless obsession Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS3. But anyway…the season started out slow…but weeded out the garbage by now…but what i dont like is how the show is focusing on the BS drama between the ladies right now. As far as spit…none of them touching the Jeanius…but it’s amazing to see what they come up with given their time constraints. But yeah…it’s good for that 2AM bored out your mind time.

I could do with out the Flavor of Love/Rock of Love meets Hip-Hop equation.

I think Ego-Trip missed with this one and I’ve been a hug fan since the magazine. What I think made the White Rapper Show interesting is that most of the shit that is allowed in most cRap is n*ggas getting away with n*gga shit. So when you take that element away it became interesting. Also they had history moments in there and really kept the “cultural” aspects of Hip-Hop prevalent in the show. Honestly I think there was alot of non-white rappers could have taken some cues from that show.

This on the other hand Miss Rap Supreme misses the mark. IMO.

Then again I’m not a fan of the “Reality Competition Show” genre anyhoo.

  4. I have never known anyone to bump bitches or cop a bitches disc. I copped Hard Core but it was moreso to moisterize my situation

i thought it was whack. i couldn’t past the first 15 min of the first show…and tried to watch the 2nd. i didn’t like the white rapper show either. not my cup of tea. i do like the other programming they have called race-o-rama those were DOPE,

  10. It was alright. I tried to do recaps on my blog but watching that shit on VH1.com was a little too much to bear. (Life without cable shouldn’t be so rough) I enjoyed the parts where they actually rapped (Lady Twist and Byata especially) Not as good as White Rapper though. Also, ego trip needs to get at me. I got a head full of ideas for TV shows.

@DP: Expect your Jean Grae discs next week.

I never watched a full episode. I think it was Complex mag that did a spread on the whole show before it premeired and I just gotta say they overhyped that shit IMO. But what pissed me off the most is they had that fat chick reppin’ Chicago and she aint nowhere near as nice as some of the chicks I rapped with of even wrote for.
