RESPECT THIS KID…

griffey

KEN GRIFFEY Jr. was the best baseball player in the 1990’s. GRIFFEY was an incredible hitter who had power and the ability to hit the ball in any part of the field. His speed turned singles into doubles on the regulack. As a centerfielder he was clearly the second coming. No one could bring an opponents home run ball back into the field of play like GRIFFEY could. He owns half of the top 10 greatest outfield plays of all time. If not for the injuries that ravaged his career after the trade to Cincinnati there would be a national holiday for GRIFFEY Jr.

Maybe that was the problem all along. GRIFFEY Jr. just wanted to play baseball. He eschewed the rockstar hype machine that so many other players were desperate for. I used to become annoyed for him because he was called ‘the Kid’ even after his dad retired. ESPN commentators called him that nickname well into his 30’s. I suppose that’s better than calling him ‘boy’ which I’m sure they did when they were off the air. People were so jealous of GRIFFEY because he made everything he did look so effortless. I watched him shag fly balls at Shea Stadium several years ago. GRIFFEY kept his glove alongside his face. That was so fucking ballsy. He was catching 350ft. fly balls barely an inch away from his eyes. KEN GRIFFEY Jr. was the best. Evar.

GRIFFEY Jr. was going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer despite the last half of his career was hobbled by assorted major injuries. Now that he has achieved the mythic number of 600 home runs his legacy is all but secured. I’m happy for him and I still hold out the hope that he will be in a Mets uniform before it is all said and done. In the meantime and in between time I copped a pair of NIKE G6’s to keep in the stash for one of those days I need to get my all-star off on the streets.

ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian shows some effing respect…

Great drop. Griffey is the man. I think it should be noted the he was the initial “lock” to beat Hank Aaron’s record and you see what happens when time and wear catch up on your body (YOU HEAR ME GAY-ROD?!?!?) and you age naturally. So for all this talk to GAY-ROD beating Bonds record with all those HR’s to go remember Kenneth Griffey… One of the best who ever did it..

PS – these were the dopest Air Max Griffey’s IMO – http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/6/6b/Kicks.jpg

Yeah them Griffey G3s is church too, but the setup that I am gonna rock my joints with is meaner than a three tittay witch.

Griffey Jr. was gonna be the GOAT.

Peeps kept talking about asteriks for steriods users…how about gold inking for dudes like Griffey who did the damn thing and was hurt more then your average player.

This is a man robbed of his rightful legacy not just by his own injuries but by juice and how it has now made the public feel blah about home run numbers.

Despite the injuries, this is the real #4 on the all-time home run list. In 140 games in 1996 he hit 49 home runs and lost 1 that he hit in a rained out game. If it had counted, he would have been the only player in baseball history with 3 consecutive 50+ home run seasons as he hit 56 the following 2 years.

I don’t know about the A-Rod baiting 40… Griffey was always injury prone even when he was young. Alex has played 154+ games for the past 7 years straight.

^I just hate A-Rod Rafi… It truly wasn’t based in any statistical reasoning. LOL.

ALL about the Griffey 1s. Those badboys are ripe for the retro treatment.

  9. Peter Divito says:

griffey was the man but i was always waiting for the day he would explode into dust on the field. dude is a walking injury. one of his kids hangs on his arm and the shit almost falls off. he would have broken every record on the books had he been healthy.

    Griffey’s kicks > Bo Jackson’s kicks > Dieon Sander’s kicks

    @Amadeo:

Word. I’ve never ever ever ever ever heard The Kid’s name mentioned amongst the juice pumpin’ gorillas of the steroid era. The sad thing is that the names that’ll get brought up by people when they think of baseball in the 90’s will be McGwire, Sosa and Clemens, while Griffey will just be an after thought.

Damn y’all, I am trying to watch this game and y’all are coming out of left field with that Bolshevik!

First off, the Griffey series of Nikes was mos def more grantastic than the Deion Sanders series. Deion’s shoes were for showboating losers. But in no manner of your imagination does the Griffey series compare to the legendary Bo Jacksons.

Air Trainer II’s are one of the gems inside of the Holy Grail. Air Trainer SC’s are not to be fucked with either.

Griffey is my GOAT baseball player but you can bet your arse that Bo knows baseball.

Barry Bonds is the Greatest Home Run hitter of all time. Yes he is. Don’t get all pious and say that Griffey was clean because you don’t know shit about Griffey or Bonds. Griffey could have broken down from the adverse effects of steroids. For that matter, Bonds, Clemens, Sosa and McGuire has never been found guilty of using steroids.

If steroids made these dudes great why aren’t there more great players? Steroids are certainly as accessible to everyone as they are to elite athletes.

Even if Bonds wasn’t a douche he wouldn’t be respected for his talent inside of the foul lines. Look at Buck O’Neil who gave a lifetime to the game of baseball and faggot supremacist sportswriters refused to let this great player enter the HoF.
