‘808’s and Heartbreaks’ will be a success on many levels. When I listen to this song right here I find myself actually appreciating Lil Wayne’s verse. What?!? Yes, the the everlasting Lil’ Wang hater is finally silenced. At least for the moment.
The violins that KanYe employs on this song are perfectly ominous and still triumphant. This is the song that will be the ‘Flashing Lights’ for this album. The transcendant pop music crossover hit that will make this season the coldest winter evar. Everyone has been bitching about KanYe’s inability to sing when what they should be saying is that they hate the fact that KanYe might be the first bathroom shower singer to go multi-platinum.
The computers that ‘Ye Tudda uses to alter his vocal pitch don’t add his passion for musical theater. KanYe brings all of that by himself. This is the 2008 album that will eventually end up on the Great White Way. I see vampires clad in shiny Comme des Garcons goosedowns flying about the staging. This song is a nightmare of haunting synth strings. Part funeral, part party. A get down for the undead.
Maybe I’m going crazy myself. I no longer sleep at night. I go through the day at my job like a zombie. The only thing that can soothe my nerves is the taste of blood from a tender young tender. She was only seventeen. But she was sexy.
First, I love what you did with the image. I know it’s a quickie psd filter, but it works.
2nd, there are many bathroom shower singers that went platinum.
The only thing I can say for this song is I like the emotions pouring through the recorded performances but . . . this may be Ye’s first L. That first cut (which was OK), is better than all the recent attempts I heard from him. Hopefully he got with DJ Quik or something to provide some direction.

Wanna hear a hot Wayne verse . . . check Outkast’s Hollywood Wedding. Wayne has the best verse. Snoop’s was smooth.
His LP isn’t all that hot… not to the K.W. standard of hotness. I wouldn’t say it’s bc he’s singing and shit. It doesn’t do it for me like his other LPs have done.
However…
So many people are saying his shit is straight up basura, but this is all the internets are talking about. They go hunting in the internets jungle for unreleased/released tracks for this 808s jawn, listen to it, COMPLAIN bout how it sucks, post the link in a public area, and then they keep talking about it.
Which makes me believe that these fucks secretly love this LP. Why? Well, nobody likes Trick Trick even though RMC spoke about the Eminem appearance on it, and nobody is talking about his album. Kanye’s 808s is being talked about.
They love it.
People talk about homey more for gossip than anything else. In addition to that, his PR game is tight. Some times he’s his own reality show. His character (or brand) supersedes his talent and work ethic.
I haven’t heard the whole CD yet, but I quietly bump Love Lockdown, but only when no one is watching. So keep that on the low.
With that said, I can only imagine how horrible it sounds as a complete product, definitely not up to the standards set by his last 3 projects.
there’s gotta be more tothis song. it sound like the first half of a truly epic song. its still building at the end with the violins, then just fades out. where’s the rest of this joint? after dropping out the drums and fading out the synth that shit needs to come right back higher tempo, and ride out for another 4 minutes. im lovin this track! itd be even better if it was twce as long.
Thank you Russ,
This track is epic with no fail. I’m writing a music video treatment for this song that won’t be used for this because I am from the future.
“Tell everybody that you knowwwwwwwwwww”
I have been digging almost everything I have heard leaked from the new album. Is there a track or two left to leak?
I have dug Kanye’s work over the years. Some more than others. I really wasn’t feeling Stronger until I dropped it in the club. Somethings take awhile to marinate.
One of my favorite artist ever is Roger Troutman. I Want to Be Your Man, Computer Love, More Bounce, Be Alright etc..
(putting Computer Love on itunes)
I ain’t mad for Kanye having a Roger Troutman phase. Ain’t mad at all.
I just reviewed the “808’s & Heartbreak” album over at my blog. My favorite tracks are “Say You Will”, “Amazing” and “Streetlights”. If you hear most of tracks out of the sequence of the album you’d do the eyebrow raise on some Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) shit (i.e. “Robocop”). I liked the album overall.
BTW, “The Death Of Adam”>>>>>>”808’s & Heartbreak”
I’m just sayin’, tho!
One.
Ooof. DP Treatment >>>> Kanye + Wang. I was hype until I listened; horrible lyrics from both, doesn’t sound THAT epic to me tho’ I don’t doubt you or someone else could stage it better than I’m hearing it.
I tried to keep an open mind, thinking ‘Ye was maybe going to pull some deep Marvin shit out but everything I’ve heard so far is just second rate, and not as WEIRD (like Marvin) as shit should be if you’re not gonna step up and articulate complex heartbreak.
For crap music fans this might be an event but I don’t know, for the r&b/soul tradition this falls into I’m just not impressed.
Philippe Wynne >>>>>> heartbreak Ye too.
