Kill ‘Yo Radio!

broken radio

The fallout from the tumbling U.S. economy continues. Broadcast radio mega monolith Clear Channel is restructuring their corporation from the top to the bottom. As is typical for most corporations mostly the bottom is being excised. We can only hope that Funkmaster Flex is forced to perform hari kari, we can only hope.

I’m one of those dudes that does the Arab Money dance when mainstream media starts to crumble. I feel like this is the perfect time for people like myself who are mainstream media outsiders because of how we look or how we speak to become alternative media providers. The ideas that are expressed here at DP Dot Com don’t exist in mainstream outlets for several reasons and that is mainly because of who controls those outlets.

At the end of the day it’s all bout the advertising dollars and if I was a company with some ad bucks to spend I would rather put my products and services in front of the higher rated consumers. These consumers are flocking to the internets now. Mostly because the content on the internets is on demand and always active. The corporations that have jumped to the internets early are the ones that will be winning big in the new year within our new economy.

I received an offer from a friend to start working on an internets based radio program. I’m not sure if thy will ultimately choose me to work on this program, but if they do you should definitely kill your radio in 2009.

INTERNETS!!!!!

i don’t have to kill my radio, LA radio has already died. the only hip hop station is power 106, and all they play is hip – pop. meh. i rely on the ‘net for my music fix.

ummmmm, why wouldn’t they pick you. I mean, you do have an interesting way of speaking in a broken record type of way, but you always end up getting your point across. and the points you bring forth are hard hitting.

anywho, hopefully they pick you. that would be cool to see were you take things though.

Radio died when the cassette tape came out. Then it died when the cd came out. Then it died when the mp3 took over. Then again when satellite radio beam in. They tried to resurrect it with hd radio, but it’s a gold plated turd.

Radio’s been dead, no one wants to admit it and pull the plug.

Radio has sucked here in Milwaukee for about 15 years. Maybe they should bring back the “request line” 🙂

I check out the TJMS in the morning when I’m puttin on my face and in the afternoon I listen to M Baisden for the topics, but good lawd even the Smooth Jazz station here is on a rigid rotation! Can’t take it!

There are only a few interesting programs on the air right now. Unfortunately most programs are Clear Channel style consolidated and very stale. A disc jockey like NY’s legendary Frankie Crocker, David Levy-respect, Hal Williams are a thing of the past. They informed and entertained. Sad to say the only recent dee jay that I really enjoyed was the ever controversial hater himself Star and the ever silent Buckwild. When he wasn’t getting at people hardbody he was probably one of the only NY deejays that actually did not use a playlist dictated by a program director.

I actually remember when DJ Premier, Kid Capri and Grand Master Flash had a short-lived program on the air. Their selection was always diverse, particularly Flash who truly understood how to mix hip hop and rhythm and blues. Too bad the Gordon Gartrelle radio show is not consistent but it is definitely entertaining. And for those cats out west, too bad Davey D is no longer on the air.

I really don’t have much to say about the many hip hop, r&B, pop-rock dee jays on the air today because they really don’t provide any value outside of what is being dictated by the major labels and program directors. The controversial NY DJ, Star once declared on air that many fans “revel in their own ignorance,” and didn’t spare his contempt for many of his industry colleagues.

Don’t forget, Radio died back in 1996 with the Telecommunications Act.
