All Day I Dream About Sneakers…

adidas

I have been on some adidas shit lately. Nike has so many wonderfully designed technical shoes, but when it comes to simple, classic profile sneakers I have to turn my eye to adidas. Especially for spring and summertime. Especially for tennis shoes. Rod Lavers are forever one of the gems in my holy grail, but y’all already know this.

I’m getting myself prepared to make a few jumps out to Philadelphia to document the city and the culture going on over there. I’m looking for a pair of adidas to rock on my trip(s) to the city of brotherly love. I made a visit to one of NYC’s classic sneaker come up joints – V.I.M. on Nostrand Avenue. I’m right around the corner from Combat Jack’s crib but he ain’t home now so I have no one to chop it up with.

Won’t you walk with me internets?

adidas

Attitude Retro b/k/a PATRICK EWINGs
These were the joints I rocked during the Mets 1986 title run (along with the Syracuse and royal blue Dunks). I really want these too, but I scoff at the $40 pricepoint. I’ll let these marinate in the retail locations until the price falls below $30 cent. I would love for these to wind up as $20 so I could copp two pairs at once.

adidas

Ciero
This is a BMX skateboarding lifestyle shoe meant to compete with the Nike 6.0 series. I’m not really feeling the colorways or the profile. Maybe if they issue this joint with some sexier leathers I might look at it a little harder. Maybe.

adidas

Rod Laver Hi
These joints are like WTF?!? I don’t even know why these joints were produced. Replace the black accents on the sole and the collar with a white or soft grey colorway and then this shoe isn’t so out of order. Rod Laver Hi’s are so hit or miss in my book. When its done right they become fresh tennis ‘boots’, but when its done wrong I have no effin’ words.

adidas

Stan Smith classic
I never cared for the Stan Smith tennis shoe. It was just TOO plain for me. But I will say something for its longevity as one of the most sold sneakers of all time up there with the Chuck Taylor. If I did own a pair of Stan Smiths it would have to be the white with navy accents pictured here. These joints are built for rocking with a blazer and khakis on your Sag Harbor Sunday swagger steez.

adidas

Rod Laver Lo
This is what the fuck I am talking about. I’m gonna let the pricepoint dip another ten bucks and then I am copping two pairs of these joints with the quickness. Rod Lavers are like white tees. You can never have enough of them.

hey dp, im a regular reader from germany, love your blog. im also a sneakerfiend, so i enjoy following your sfu-tours thru nyc. over here copping sneakers involves some serious expenditures: that stan smith goes for 100$, air max (1s,90s..) retail at 160$, just to name some, i shit you not!
so seeing those price tags i always get jealous….i wish i could just join the next sfu tour.

i also fux wit the rod laver. i saw mf doom wearing it on some photo once and got hooked. talking classic adidas you gotta check out the “adicolor 2”, which is totally slept on imo. im rocking a pair right now (just b/w).

Never been big on adidas, but I’d murk a few people to get my hands on these in a 13.

I’d like to see them bring Rod’s more to the forefront.

Rod Laver’s are hot but, I’ve always been a Stan Smith person myself; they’re the perfect shoe to keep your sneaker game fresh on a budget.
Also wanna say R.I.P. to the Rugged Sole on West 8th Street in the city; even though I’m from Brooklyn the Rugged Sole on Utica Ave. doesn’t have the same appeal. The folks at the W. 8th spot were usually willing to cut me a deal on kicks or boots.
    Damn recession!!!!

check out the varieties of the Adidas Nastase line, if they still sell them places

    Gotty,
Whoa! adidas went IN on those joints. The D-ring lacing system is hard fucking body. No one does that shit like Timberland does.

Nastase’s are slept on by many cats out here since their profile is so close to the Laver’s. I love the Lavers though because they are so fucking smooth in all-leather. Panel for panel, stitch for stitch they are one of the greatest sneakers for all time.

    Twerk,
I give you all the green joints if you pass me all the blues.

    Yo Dallas,

I know adidas has the “simple, classic profile sneakers” shit on lock (adidas samba) but give props to the Nike crew for the ACG wildwoods.

My Adi game in on schedule for the summer B!…between them MÜNCHENs and the Trimm Trab’s either one is tough business!! also copped the ill Fultons from my come-up spot on the southside! I AM the come-up King. word. is. bawn.

My classic is definitely the white w/blk stripe Superstar’s or the Pro Models..not only for the obvious reasons, (and the amazing fact that white on white makes almost any shoe hot gaahbij) but them shitz in indestructable! you can throw ’em in the washer and they clean up nice & dont lose shape…I keeps a fresh 2 pair on stanby. If I could only score a pair w/that original thin foam tongue. (ll)

While you’re dreaming about sneakers type in ourgangitvnet.com and watch my award winning movie “The Other Side of Hip Hop-The 6th Element”
It’s been remixed and polished and as you know is a powerful and raw look at Hip Hop thru the eyes of an O.G.
    Peace and love, Ernie

  13. Hooligan says:

Adidas have always been big on the ‘casual’ scene in the UK – Trimm Trabbs and Gazelles being probably the most popular. The Kegler Super re-issues (the first trainer to use the ‘peg’ system) are the shit though.

  14. the_dallas says:

    Thx MoMo,
I have never done a drop about Asics yet and those are some of my MOST comfortable shoes. They even edge out New Balance and K-Swiss. Those joints are totally in the center of my fanboy wheelhouse.

    The DP Double Quarter Pounders…

  15. Off-topic…anyone ever have any trouble with SB Dunks pinching the tops of your feet?
