I love movies and I really love FREE movies.
The Newark Black Film Festival is the country’s oldest film festival. 35 years old and focused on highlighting the stories of African American filmmakers, the NBFF has a diverse program scheduled for the 2009 season from feature films to documentaries. The NBFF Paul Robeson awards committee selected ‘Bodega’ last year for one of its judges choice awards so these folks must know a thing or two about good flicks.
Tonight the Newark museum will be hosting the opening night of the NBFF featuring a HUDLIN brothers compilation film called ‘Cosmic Slop’. This is the title for one of my all-time favorite Funkadelic jams. I’m excited to see what fanboys like the HUDLINs have crafted under this name. The screening begins at 7pm in the museum auditorium and is FREE to all attendees. WARRINGTON HUDLIN does the Q & A thing after the screening.
Here’s the Newark Black Film Festival schedule for the rest of the summer.
is it the old HBO miniseries “Cosmic Slop”? Cuz I never saw it but have been curious about it for years. Sposed to basically be a black Twilight Zone, i believe. The first episode was the first chapter from Chester Himes’ PLAN B, which is a banger
Damn, wish i could go
The bass line on cosmic slop is ill. That’s my most favorite funkadelic jam after maggot brain
Yeah thats from HBO. I watched it when it was out. It got taken off the air because HBO got too many negative letters in the mail from white people who found it to be to revolutionary in racial content/commentary. It’s really quite witty if u ask me. but I can understand why they got so much negative feedback because in one episode the virgin mary appears in the projects and walks the streets but at the end she lifts her vail and is actually Oshun/Isis(a Black/African woman). And we all know GOD is white so the Euros were not havin that. Anyway I won’t ruin any others but they only showed 3 episodes in the 90’s before it got cut off.Yall sould check it cuz the show was thoughtful and funny. definitely worth the admission of FREE.
Off to Newark.
Fuck Yo’ PATH train!
Brick City. New Jersey Drive is that shit. You need to get on track with that if you dont already know. It’s like cCockers but car theft.
And whats so funny about that New Jersey Drive movie was it wasnt even filmed here…it was filmed in BK. oh and when Heavy D said take yall asses down to Avon St my whole crew was like wtf? u mean Avon ave? ha ha. I grew up with nothing but car thieves ova here and nobody was taken them bs 85 accords they had in that movie. It was Big Boy coups all day and the occasional Jeep and Maxima. That movie wasn’t true to Newark for shit. At least they tried to show our scene tho i gives em love 4 that.
