The ‘LO-End Theory: eBay Comeups…

ebay

When I talk to new heads about the Lifestyle I always have to mention eBay. It’s a good place for beginners to find starter pieces for their collections and if you get lucky you might even snatch a comeup or two.

Comeups are items that are posted by people who aren’t necessarily Polo Ralph Lauren collectors but they recognize the popularity of the brand so they post auctions featuring items associated with brand at reasonable opening bid prices. Take for instance this bear sweater I have pictured here…

ebay

The lifestylers call this a ‘Sit Down Teddy’ and the super lifestylers know that it is a cotton knit retro of the OG Sit Down from 1992 and the wool knit Sit Down from 1996. Whoever posted this item on the eBay system isn’t that informed, but they know that collectors cherish these sweaters so they have set the opening bid price at $600. That is OG money, not a fair bid price for a retro.

Here are a couple of bear coffee mugs.

You might imagine that my collection is filled with Polo Bear items? The answer would be hell yeah. I like these mugs and their opening bid price is fair at $8 bucks, but where I have to fall back on this auction is the shipping price. $10 for two mugs is a bit excessive in my book.

You have to monitor eBay for opening bid prices as well as shipping charges to determine if an item is going to be worth the cost but once you have that business all sorted out you can go hard – like Brooklyn.

Word Is Bawn! late pass, but good to see DP.com back on these internets! funds is def on the way, B…
My eBay come-up game is immaculate…but every purchase has to make sense. Too many ‘Lo heads try to catch you with their S & H fees…but you’d be shocked @ how many sellers just put absurd prices on I.T.’s just to see if anybody’s really paying attention, and will work with you if you email them before they get bidders. You’d also be surprised how many people you can catch sleeping just because they misspell sh*t in the title of the auction.

  2. Dirty– I’m not on the system for ‘Lo (my fashion game being non-existent) but 100% co-sign on misspelling; I’ve gotten all sortsa underpriced/rare music that way, and a few books too.

Q: If I do wanna cop some ‘Lo sometime, are there sure signs by which to identify counterfeits or can experienced lifestylers get burned too?
