All Day I Dream About Speeding…

grand prixb

If I told you guys that I had boycotted adidas hardbody during my detente with the brand then that would be a lie. I still copp adidas from time to time and I still rock them too.

It’s hard to break up with something that you have a long and intimate history with, except my ex-girlfriends, but they have changed phone numbers and filed for restraining orders so that keeps me at bay. My tennis shoe game is a love supreme. That’s the midwesterner in me speaking when I say “tennis shoes”. That’s what midwest people call EVERY sneaker no matter what activity it was created for.

My heart for adidas lies in their legacy tennis sneakers. I’ve spoken so affectionately about the Rod Lavers at the expense of some other styles that I feel deserve Holy Grail consideration if you can come up on them. The first one that I have been checking for this summer will be the Grand Prix. The Grand Prix should be a driving shoe since it is so clean and isn’t over detailed. I’m a big fan of premium materials and the Grand Prix always features a toebox made of suede or nubuck. The other feature that I love the Grand Prix for is the elevated arch support (peep that chisel in the outsole).

I definitely don’t talk enough about the adidas Trimm-Trab. This is another premium leather tennis shoe that adidas crafted back in the 70’s but it wasn’t really popular here in the states because it cost so much at the time. The construction of the shoe is what made it so cost prohibitive. You see how adidas has the integrated plastic lace eyelets in the upper. That shit costs wild paper back in them days.

On my last trip to Paris I came up on a pair of the Trimm-Trab in a dusty flea market in Cligancourt. I copped the joints even tho’ they weren’t even my size. I ended up bumping them on the eBay system but for a few weeks I was the owner. The next time I go overseas I am going in hardbody for the hard to find kicks.

First time peeping the Trimm-Trab’s. Those are crackin’, though. Incidentally, why the fall-out with adidas?

  2. DirtyJerz says:

Trimm Trab’s are the GOAT adidas hands down. That green colorway they dropped last month is gorgeous. DP we’ve had this discussion before so you know, I too, caught some adidas come-up’s during the boycott. For that, I will NEVER pay more than 1/2 price of the MSRP for that brand. Rawse yellow stickers FTW!

…and I still say that bitch needs to be fired!

    Jerz.
    Out.

Them Trabs are crack. I haven’t seen a pair of Prix in a while.

I used to love for my new Stan Smiths every summer. They turn to HoboWear when they get dirty tho.

  5. DirtyJerz says:

jdot, you aint never lied….stan smiths are good money for only 1 day and offer no support. They should be priced the same as Chucks.

  6. $yk says:

Word is bond I only copped 2 pairs of Stans in my lifetime because of that. At least I could wash the Lavers (II).

But them Prix’ would catch the yellow tone after a while, like the Puma GV.

What y’all know about the Gerd Mullers?

RIP to the San Antonio Spurs.

Sidenote: The Midwest comment doesn’t hold true in Chicago. Most people still call em “gym shoes” or “j’s”. Sneakers always seemed a little too proper in the hood. Similiar to the way we say pop instead of soda. Blame the great migration for the slight countryness.

Bless-1 what up?! Chicago ain’t country enough. My homegirl from the Lou call every sneasker “tennis” and she don’t even say the word shoe. She just say “damn, you got ANOTHER pair of tennis?!”. Mind you I had Dunk hi’s on. SMH

Dallas whuddup homie? I ain’t reached out in a minute but glad to see you and the 3 Stripes bury the hatchet! BTW Stan Smith’s are my absolute favorite jumpers (sneakers are also called jumpers in CHICAGO or at least they were when I was coming up on the SOUTHSIDE)
