Phoenix Gets Another Gorilla…

go rilla

Since we are on an NBA vibe and since this is Black History Month(ughh) can I go in for one minute on the ridiculous mascot for the Phoenix Suns?

Am I being overly sensitive? Please let me know that I am tripping on this one.

Arizona would be the type of state that you could get some shit like this off too. Remember how they had to be dragged into accepting the MLK Jr holiday as if it were a decree to actually be nice to Black people? Arizona hearts apartheid.

Unlike the NBA players the gorilla needs a trampoline to dunk the basketball. What was I thinking? How could this be racist?

Mark my words party people, in our lifetime there will be a sports expansion team in Colorado or the Carolinas and their mascot will be a coon. What will you say then?

reggie

The other gorilla that Phoenix just picked up are the remains of a once proud champion named SHAQUILLE O’NEAL. This is SHAQ’s fourth team in his storied NBA career. All indications are that this will be his last stop. The Diesel is almost out of gas. SHAQ doesn’t have to be the omnipresent force that he was in years past during his stint in Phoenix. He just has to be ready for the playoffs. That is pretty much SHAQ’s steez anyhoo.

KOBE BRYANT might be the NBA’s biggest douchebag on and off the court, but he called it several years ago when he said that SHAQUILLE O’NEAL uses the regular season to get himself into shape. I imagine that his off-season conditioning, or more precisely lack thereof, had to be grating on PAT RILEY’s nerves. This is the only white man that wears a du-rag to sleep in order to maintain the moisture of his slickback. PAT RILEY seems like the type of cat that would iron his pajamas.

I predict that SHAQUILLE O’NEAL will get the Suns to the Finals this year. As a matter of fact, I will call it right here that the Suns will win the ‘chip this year over the Boston Celtics. How sick are Boston professional sports that they can be a part of all the major championships in a twelve month period yet they don’t know what a fucking Lite-Brite is? I forgive my brother DART ADAMS for living in the East coast version of Podunk. The rest of Boston stays losing.

What a great trade for the Suns. Shaq is still an elite center in the league regardless of what those clowns at ESPN are saying. He can defend, put in work on the low block and is the best passing center in the NBA. People need to start giving Shaq props for being the most dominant player of his era.

I’m sure the Mavericks and Dallas are groaning right now.

Shaq gets props but you have to call his professionalism in question. He’s getting older and getting into shape will become more and more difficult. He’s definitely not going to be able to keep up with Nash, Hill’s ankle and Stoudamire. Wade already got his first ring, I’m sure he will not be tremendously missed the Heat players. Alonzo showed more energy and burst than O’Neal at times. And I think he will realize that you can not simply turn on and off regular season play and post season play.

Surely Shaq is on the best centers ever, but let’s see what he can do with his diminishing abilities.

THE SUNS WILL MISS MR. MARION. He’s a true multi-faceted player.

The Sixers have THE WORST basketball mascot ever. Hip Hop? A combo of Rabbit and Rambo? **sigh**

I would’ve posted a response a long time ago but I was too busy laughing. Everytime I think about those damn Mooninites being detonated I lose it. The shit that got to me was when those dickheads who worked in a COMIC BOOK STORE called the police and reported one. A COMIC BOOK STORE? Not one of those employees had EVER seen Adult Swim before?

As far as the trade goes…Shaq can’t run. He can’t jump like he used to. His lateral movement at this juncture is mad suspect. I dunno. The Lakers might be scary if Bynum can ever get back to his old form but it still comes down to the C’s and the Pistons.

The Suns offense made Marion look way better than he actually was and given that they already have a way more skilled, albeit less athletic/wirey small forward waiting in the wings in Boris Diaw, I think the Suns got the better end of the deal. They needed size and a presence in the middle to help with the terrible defense they are accustomed to playing and if they are able to get Shaq healthy before the playoffs, they’ll be alright. It’s also a good deal financially, considering that Marion was demanding a max-deal before the season and that Shaq only has two years (although it’s $20M a year) on his contract. Marion isn’t worth that money in the least – you ever see dude shoot a jumpshot or get a bucket that wasn’t a dunk, layup or crazy floater?

C’s can’t win it unless Paul Pierce takes over. People need to stop overrating Ray Allen because he was in He Got Game.

Awful trade for the suns in my opinion.

    Dart Adams, Boston Advocate says:

Ray Allen is a much better defender than people give him credit for and he is excellent with the stop and go dribble and switching up speeds like Bruce Lee riding a Fuji in a movie to get to the hoop fairly easily. He’s scoring 19ppg with limited shots and he’s still not even 100% healthy. How does that translate to him being overrated?

He was in “He Got Game” AND James Toback’s “Harvard Man”. Neither change the fact that he’s a lock for the Hall Of Fame once he hangs his kicks up.

^ Ray Allen is also butter soft like that leather on the Fonz (no Lil’ Wang’s real daddy Jay-Z)

with that said I still think the Celts can break through the East if the Cavs get they asses worn’d out by Detroit in the semis.

the rest of Boston stays losing?

come on. You have to give some of the rest of us non-bloggers credit.

For giving us Ed O.G. and the Bulldogs plus the Source mag I need to give Boston props.

For giving us Benzino, the Big Dig and the airport that the 9-11 terrorists flew from, Boston stays losing.

^^Don’t forget Guru, even though he claims NYC now.

Ray Allen has always been nice. Don’t let him being in a movie fool you. The pride of CT (or he was at one point)

Shawn Marion’s jumper vs. Scottie Pippen’s face: which is uglier?

  12. Oh and to quote Chris Rock regarding AZ and race relations: how racist do you have to be to not want to take the day off?

What is the deal with that gorilla?

  13. Chris says:

Ray Allen is definitely a soft head. Has never even been the best player on any of his teams.

Marion’s jumper vs. Scottie Pippen’s grill? I’d have to go with Marion’s jumper. As for Sam Cassell or Tyron Hill? Those grills would beat out Marion’s jumper any day of the week.

  14. Sangano says:

@ Chris….he’s never been the best player on any of his teams????

PSSSSHHHAAAWWWW u get the dilllzzz. fa realz.

  15. @Chris: Who was better than him when he was on the Bucks? Vin Baker? (another CT product) Glenn Robinson? Come on now.

Hill vs. Cassell: Jimmy Walker’s ugly twin vs. ET

  16. Chris says:

Milwaukee: Sam Cassell and Glenn Robinson (circa 2001)
    Seattle: Rashard Lewis
    Boston: Paul Pierce and KG

  17. Eh, the only ones I can concretely say are better than Ray Allen are KG and Pierce. Everyone else, it’s debatable.

“I’ve been hearing a lot of, ‘He can’t run, he can’t do this,”‘ O’Neal said. “You’re going to be very surprised. You know in traditional basketball, when a team runs a lot, there’s always been somebody to ignite the break. If I’m getting that rebound I’m going to be igniting that break. If I don’t get the rebound, I’m going to try to be the first one down, because I know Nash is going to look for me.”

    We will see.

You might be onto something with the PHX ape. Check this out from PHYSORG.com:

“Discrimination against blacks linked to dehumanization, study finds
Crude historical depictions of African Americans as ape-like may have disappeared from mainstream U.S. culture, but research presented in a new paper by psychologists at Stanford, Pennsylvania State University and the University of California-Berkeley reveals that many Americans subconsciously associate blacks with apes.”
