HO SIT DOWN!

j.d.

Not that HO, but that OTHER ho…

Everyone of you readers MUST read the following Huffington Post blog entry by JERMAINE DUPRI. This is required reading for those of you who want a reason to justify why people should illegally download music. It is spoken in the earnest voice of someone who has no connection whatsoever to the consumer base that has supported the record industry all along.

To hear J.D. tell it, the consumer was better when they were more easily manipulated into purchasing whole albums simply because of their desire for one single track. JERMAINE claims that the current system which enables consumers to preview an entire album and purchase only the worthwhile singles from iTunes is ruining the industry. Seriously, read this idiot’s shit.

A Good Album is More than Just a Collection of Singles

Someone called this shit best over at XXLmag dot com by saying that JERMAINE is one of those slaves that thinks he is sick because his master has a cold. The record industry model needed to be scrapped ten years ago. What sickens me is that J.D. still uses his cache as a producer to speak as if he is more artist than entrepreneur. The reason why the public decided to support the iTunes model is because artists weren’t submitting complete albums. Or their labels weren’t publishing their music as such.

rap pack

J.D. describes JAY-Z’s demand to not sell ‘American Gangster’ via iTunes as the shot in the industry’s arm to revitalize them and remind the people at Apple who is really the boss when selling music is concerned. Pahh! Just try to sell another JANET JACKSON album without iTunes, or a MICHAEL JACKSON album for that matter. No one will risk going in on purchasing an entire album from either of these icons without damn near every track first being leaked. The record industry killed their golden egg laying goose and now they want to blame everyone and everything else but themselves. How about releasing a complete fucking album from an artist?

When you listen to a record like ‘Graduation’ you recognize the care placed into the development of every song on the album. You may not like every track but it is obvious to me that KANYE WEST spent his time trying to make every song personal and separate as an individual statement. In the best reality a great album IS in fact a collection of singles that play independently and individually of the larger collection.

When artists return to examining and exploring their artform is when the public will return to consuming their journey in its entirety. Let’s see if JERMAINE can make a JANET JACKSON worth listening to instead of trying to give her the sound of an aging BRITNEY SPEARS(who mind you, was actually just a bootlegg JANET from the gate anyhoo). In the meantime J.D., sit the eff down.

I guess Jermaine isn’t aware that it’s possible to make a concise album that’s enjoyable from beginning to end full of album tracks…THEN you pick singles from those collected album tracks AFTER the album’s completion as opposed to going into the studio with the intention of recording a single/s or song that would make cool ringtones beforehand like they do now. This is why 85% of major label albums suck today…too much business and not enough music.

The industry/machine has completely ruined the music business. The Walls Of Babylon/Jericho are falling down all around them and they act like they don’t know it’s happening. Like my uncle from Alabama says “It’s too late to shove the shit back into the turkey once it comes out.”

    One.

  2. Maxine says:

I was gonna comment but Dart’s last line says it all. LOL.

  3. SH says:

“Did consumers complain? Maybe so. But at what point does any business care when a consumer complains about the money? Why do people not care how we – the people who make music – eat? If they just want the single, they gotta get the album.”

Someone enrol this dude in an Economics class. Does he not realize that people would just steal the singles if they weren’t available on iTunes? If an artist wants to shit out a bad album with one single, NO ONE should be forced to pay $15 for that lack of effort.

And that Kanye point is the truth.

  4. L.P.CROOKS says:

as the consumer base widened artist or labels started making songs to target different audiences and watered down the concept of an album.

thats why I can think an lp has 3 or 4 tight songs and someone with different tastes will agree but they are talking about a different 3 or 4 songs

kanyes cd is prolly the best I have bought since Bun B but it is just a collection of singles with no real flow for start to finish

whatever happened to liking 3 songs at first then eventually finding that other songs are not radio hits but are dope (after hearing them a few times in between favorites)

Its like only watching the highlight reel and knowing who won the game.
real fans want to see the missed dunks and elbows thrown in the post as well.

Dart definitely was on point and said it all.

JD needs to bring Kris Kross back

  6. *SMH* at this trust fund baby/midget Jermaine Dupri. This douchebag Dupri is crying that his latest shit sandwitch didn’t go gold or whatever. This douche Dupri is oblivious to the fact that there are dozens of indie label Artists way better than Dupri, that would be happy to sell even 100K units.

The real tragedy in the music industry, is that some incredible albums get made, but often 99% of people don’t know they even exist. A few examples from 2006-7

    Aterciopelados
    Blue Scholars
    Leroy Smokes
    Funky DL
    Nicolay
    Panacea
    Pigeon John
    ShinSight Trio
    The Brand New Heavies

any of the above list doesn’t get 1% of the promotion as douche Dupri, yet instead of bitching about it, those Artists just make dope albums.

BTW do not call Jermaine Dupri “JD”. It’s insulting to possibly confuse the great producer Jay Dee (RIP), with this douche Dupri.

  7. Jd is Mad Migdety, dayuuuuumm. I want a Midget to roll with me at all times but he has to be charismatic and make animal balloons. That would Be dope, almost as dope as albums leaking and me not paying for shit unless I like it!

How to Learn More about SACD Technology

Introducing the Super Audio Compact Disc is the Ethical thing to do:

The new generation Compact Disc the “Super Audio CD,” was developed before the year 2000 by Sony and Philips Electronics. It could have almost wiped out the music Piracy and the black market of audio CD’s. So why we are in the year mid 2007 and it still has not reached the market in a large way? It is my opinion that the unethical consumer electronics and music industry.

What I am about to say is nothing new; I said it before, but I was unaware that the solution is already developed. The consumer electronics industry makes money by developing devices and software applications that allow consumers to steal music and motion pictures. Companies like Sony gets paid by having a Michael Jackson make an album and then on the other hand put out burnable compact discs and CD burners. So while Michael might end up in the red, Sony still makes profits at the other end.

I think the government should step into this dilemma and force the music industry and the consumer electronics industry to do what is just and ethical thing. The Super Audio Compact Disc is overdue and should replace the old CD’s that are still on the market and have become totally obsolete. The SACD should be the industry standard in not just selected genres but in popular music, hip hop, R&B, Rock, Jazz, Reggae and every other genre of music. The SACD is overdue and artists should voice their demand that their material is not made to be given away.

Note: The SACD is being introduced by Sony Electronics now and is a promising technological breakthrough for people who really like good sounding music. I have to correct a statement I made about how much music can be held on a SACD. It can hold two complete versions of stereo and six channels at 74 minutes each, which is 148 minutes of music, but realistically the artist will probably put out the same music in the two formats, but could reward their fans by doing something different. 9. Tiffany says:

El, Nicolay is that ish!! I liked everything that I’ve heard from him thus far.

I’m buying albums like every three months these days. Fifteen years ago, maybe more, I stayed in MusicLand buying music every Tuesday. Music is just really bad right now. I won’t even pay the 99 cents to buy a single from Itunes. I’ll support the REAL artist that I like and buy the whole album.

I agree LP, there were days when you could buy an album, find your 3 or 4 favorites but then later find the other jams after you’ve heard it a few times at a party or something. Go home like, “I gotta put that album on. I almost missed that one”.

The record industry is dying because there’s a whole lot of untalented folks that they’re trying to shove down our throats. Back in the day, there was so much good music that you couldn’t even keep up. I don’t even listen to the radio anymore.

People have gotten smart. The younger generation is all about downloads. They’re going to get the songs they like off the internet and put that ish on their ipods and keep it moving. And I’m not talking about Itunes, but leaked tracks that are downloaded.

There’s an artist name Ledisi that I saw perform and she released a second album. I didn’t even know about the first one. This girl is mad talented. She was on the Mike Baisden show talking about how she sold 2,000 albums by herself and was too happy.

These other folks just want to be in the spot light. Everything they do is about staying relevant, at least on the blogs. If blogs stop showing pictures about these folks out and about and who’s dating who, times would be harder for ’em. Betta’ take what you can get JD.

  10. Eloheem * says:

Tiffany the second Ledisi album is real solid….even better than the first. You gotta check “Upside Down”.

  11. Preach sister Tiffany!

This is what’s wrong with the music industry:

a talented hungry singer Ledisi, sellls 2K => happy & enthusiastic

a no-talent clown nepostistic midget Dupri, sells 100K (or whatever) => cries & blames the fans

  12. Co-sign Dart above. Alabama is known for turkey basting technique. Nolo.

Yo, JD is like a shitzu with a pedicure. Pampered by the music biz since he first came in the game, but isn’t even strong enough to kill himself, much less his own master.

It takes balls (nolo) to let another man act and then to say “Me too!” Jay-Z is obviously above JD in the building.

Oh, and let’s not pretend that anybody will care if JD’s next album isn’t available on iTunes, much less anywhere in the universe.

    So-so indeed.
