Heieneken Red Star Soul Party…

heiny red star

Heineken has a space in Black people lore similar to Hennessy. Neither of these products are the best at what they do, but Black folks can’t do without them (for the record: Heineken Dark >>> Modelo Negro). Therefore the Heineken Red Star Soul party was as bananas to get into as the Hennessy Artistry joint. Let’s also agree that a free concert with free Heineken on a Friday is as good as it gets.

The event was filled with celebrities who mixed things up with regular folks. That made the party real fun for me to watch because most Hip-Hop celebs occupy a weird space in stardom. Everyone loves to be acknowledged for creating content or art except when it comes to being recognized in a Hip-Hop setting you usually have to deal with people that are jealous of the success of your art and efforts. Some of the fans think that THEY should be in your shoes.

This is why I love being an internets celebrity. There isn’t anyone that knows me. And the folks that recognize me for my online efforts have a highspeed internets connection so they aren’t even the losers using dial-up. No wonder so many rappers are becoming internets celebrities. It’s way better than real world celebrity foe the simple fact that you save a grip on personal security expenses. Unfortunately, there is no red carpet for internets celebrities.

I did a Sneaker Fiends Unite! inspection on Wale and the boy checks out as always. I can’t even front like I have been fuxing with his music lately. After the ‘Mixtape About Nothing’ I have become lukewarm to him. He a cool dude tho’.

Apparently, Wale put the ‘high’ in Heineken.

Randomness! Mario Lopez, but sadly no Lark.

It’s the Cons. G.O.O.D. Music in the building. Consequence be in the streets more than any rapper I can think of. ‘Don’t Quit Your Day Job‘ was tragically slept on. Don’t sleep on that next joint.

Is this chick from 3LW? And who the fux cares?!?

heiny red star

Why is this man smiling? Have the Knicks traded him to Cleveland?

heiny red star

His name is D-Nice. Taking out you suckas and you don’t know how he did it. Salute this man for being a creative force in Hip-Hop for over twenty years.

What are you getting into this weekend in NYC? I’m having a CMJ pre-game weekend myself. There is too much shit to do and only 24hrs to get it all done. Definitely go to the Reed Space Annex on Sunday for the lambskin leather V-goose launch. Let’s see what kind of pricepoints they are offering for that joint.

On Saturday it’s time to celebrate if you are Boriqua, or if you are like me and you have an affinity for pernil. El Museo del Barrio will cut the ribbon on their new gallery space, cafe and exterior courtyard. This was another project that I had to shit a brick for in order to get to the finish line on time. Well here we are and rain or shine we are going to celebrate the culture and heritage of latino Americans.

emdb

After I boogie at El Museo I have to make you boogie at Lit Lounge in the lower east side. I’ll be putting in work as a guest deejay so if you are in the vicinity def pop in and say what up. @Heems (.5 of future rap superstars Das Racist) invited me to spin so I thought I could bring my Blacbook filled with all kinds of punk funk rap rock rebel goodies. I open the party @ 10pm so don’t roll thru at 3am looking for me. I fux with naps and shit.

I gotta see that Spike Jonze flick this weekend too. And then next week will be the College Music Journal madness. I’m gonna need a clone, or a surrogate.

THE NEW CLASSICS…

lifestyle

As you could see from the earlier video I passed through the lifestyle section in Bloomingdale’s. Even with no money in my pockets I HAVE to see what Polo Ralph Lauren is cooking up for the fall season. There were a few rustic I.T.’s that appeal to my woodsman [ll] aesthetic but the classic shit for me will always be a ‘Lo rugby.

I placed these two on my wishlist…

O-Prime from Timeless Truth was rocking this joint for his video shoot last weekend. I made the mental note to copp. I just need the price to dip a little more and this joint is so mine. With a pair of Levi’s and the new Jordan Spiz’ike boots I will be smashing shit. What shit? That shit.

This rugby has subtle ‘Lo flavors all over it like arm patches and shoulder yoke stitching. My favorite details are the leather reinforcements on the collar and the NY Knicks/Mets colorway.

Superman Is 75 Years Old…

Bloomingdale’s hosted a little shopping event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of DC Comics. Nike’s Converse division has licensed DC characters for t-shirts ans other apparel. There were free drinks so combine that with iconic comic book lore and you know I am up in that piece.

I took a few flicks and made a little video (natch) because Bloomie’s doesn’t care if I use my handycam in their store. FUX YO’ adidas!

dc@bloomies

Look who’s hanging with the heroes? BTW, a hero ain’t nuthin’ but a sandwich. Sandwich >>>

dc@bloomies

If you copped a pair of Converse Chuck taylors you could have the Bloomie’s in-house artist ruin customize them for you free of charge.

dc@bloomies

Shouts to the other artist who was drawing caricatures of the fanboys. Too bad his reference points were all Marvel characters. #comicartistfail

dc@bloomies

Handsome Boy Modeling School on their grind and nobody is smiling.

dc@bloomies

NEAL ADAMS made it a dope comic cover and Converse made it a crappy t-shirt.

Get Fly Like Larry Davis…

larry davis

For any NYC teen growing up in the center city during the 1980’s your lasting image of the Black superman would be LARRY DAVIS (R.I.P.). No one else has survived a shootout and subsequent manhunt the way that LARRY had.

This is how the story goes…

He was a smalltime narco bagman for some Bronx cops when he decided that he was going to keep the money he was handling along with the drugs. The police came looking for him to take him down hard. They expected him to shoot back. They didn’t expect him to escape alive.

NYC (The Bronx and Harlem) was turned on its ear as every two-bit pusher, pimp and hustler was throttled by the police as they searched for DAVIS who was able to elude the beast for over two weeks. When they finally corralled LARRY and brought him out in cuffs before the media I was amazed that he wasn’t this 7ft tall hulk.

He was just a brother in a V-goose with a part in his dark ceasar and a pair of Air Jordans on his feet. I knew a thousand kids in the city who could have been LARRY DAVIS. As a matter of fact I did KNOW them. On Sunday I will go to Reed Annex for a FREE pop-shop party celebrating the re-issue of the classic V-goose jacket.

I’ll be repping for the realest brother to ever rock one.
