Rub this stream of STEVIE WONDER all over your body and then tell me you don’t want to come out 2nite and celebrate life with dance?

Stevie Wonder (born Stevland Hardaway Judkins on May 13, 1950, name later changed to Stevland Hardaway Morris) aka Stevie Wonder

$tapleCrop$ curated this STEVIE WONDER music stream and they designed this tee featuring STEVIE’s signature and thumbprint as the graphic. I have a whole bunch to give away to the folks coming to the party tonight. Let me know your shirt size and I will have one waiting for you. Peep the designs below.

If you can’t make it to the party hit me on the e-mail with the titles of the songs in this stream and you get yourself a free shirt.

OKP VIP…

vip

OKayPlayer steady takes care of the kid for the HighLine Ballroom’s weekly party hosted by the Roots. I zipped in to the VIP section of the line and I got my medium access bracelet which means that I can go sit in the areas where the artists convene and politic. Truck North holler at me homey. I’m trying to get out to Philly next weekend.

Shouts to my homey CHRIS from Philly who held me down with that WBW. I seen my dude BRADEN up in that piece too and I know he be holding that stankness. There are some official bone gristle kids that make it to the show on the weekly coming from parts all over. I also need to big up your boy Notes From A Different Kitchen who was walking down the block holding his little lady’s hand talking mad loud about the music game.

The Jam Session was another high level exercise in musicality. JAMES POYSER has been particularly great for the last few weeks and I think that is also due to having worked so closely with the performers like JAGUAR WRIGHT, LADY ALMA and Floetry’s MARCIA AMBROSIUS. The keyboards have been religiously rigorous in keeping the atmosphere something like a church revival. Last night’s set was time for the lady’s to shine and they absolutely did. You never know what you are going to get at the Jam Sessions but it sure enough gots to be fonky.

Black Thought as usual pays an inordinate amount of homage to Kool G Rap. Not that G Rap isn’t a pioneer that deserves high acclaim (as is Thought). But at this point I wish that Kool G Rap would just show up for one of these Jam Sessions and return the love. Hopefully G Rap will make the trip from Phoenix one day soon and fall thru the Roots Jam Sessions @ Highline Ballroom.

JOELL ORTIZ IS CLASSIC…

classics

I fux with JOELL ORTIZ because he is such a student of rap music. He is cut from the same cloth as a Black Thought. He isn’t yet on B.T.’s level of micsmanship, but I am sure he can get there if he gets motivated. This mixtape is proof positive of his skillset.

Joell Ortiz Covers The Classics via OnSmash

This mixtape has been months in development. Because JOELL is such a big fan of Hip-Hop it wasn’t easy to convince him to cover some of rap’s greatest classics with his own flavor. JOELL thought it was sacrilege to apend these songs in a mixtape or any other recorded format. Something akin to rewriting the rap bible.

I think what JOELL did was better than a REWRITE. He did a REMEMBER. This mixtape remembers our history. People that don’t understand rap’s history of learning life’s lesson through communication think that rap is a contact sport where challenges are issued in an arena of one-upmanship. These are the vultures that thrive on Hip-Hop’s dysfunction. Each one teach one was never the motto of those executives and carpetbaggers.

Instead of keeping the focus squarely on himself JOELL ORTIZ reminds us why these songs mattered in the first place. Definitely put this mixtape in your portable music player. Pick up the original records that were sampled for this tape.

Respect the architects.

Remember your history before it becomes HIS story.

Happy Born Day BIG L.

Rest in peace.

Let’s Get Married…

I can’t think of a more vapid, devoid of romance song than this Jagged Edge remix featuring Run-DMC. This is the kind of jam that two people in their fifties might sing to each other after leaving the liquor store with a fifth of the sponsor(E & J Brandy) in the plastic bottle. The song sure is catchy though…

Thank goodness my folks didn’t play that song once during their reception this weekend. My good friend, DJ Dr.Phillgoode made an honest woman of Dr. Tanya. Believe it or not, but one of them is really a doctor. The ceremony was held at the incredible Bedford Stuyvesant landmark Akwaaba Mansion.

I was running late for the festivities because I didn’t arrange my outfit until the last minute. It turned out that everything I wanted to wear is still at the dry cleaners. The dry cleaners is the OG storage for poor folks like myself. I hope my shit is still there when I go to pick it up this week.

I ended up in a corduroy suit looking like a dude who needed some February in his life. As always I had the lifestyle all over my body. I love my collection of bear ties. I have these in four different colors. I decided to pull out some classic cookie boot mocassins. There wasn’t too much dancing at this wedding so I was spared the sight of me having myself soaked through. I can’t wait for the winter to come back around so I can wear this outfit again.
