Dude, What The Eff Is A Papaya Dog?!?

Monday, September 17th, 2007

papaya

Papaya Dog is the universal fast food joint for everyone leaving a bar or club in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. It’s democracy in its greatest and lowest forms all wrapped up in a gelatin casing and served with mustard, ketchup, onions or ‘kraut at no additional cost.

I can’t believe you came here because you wanted to eat a hot dog. Something has gone terribly wrong in your life and here you find yourself sampling the chicken tenders, or the chili cheeseburgers, or heaven forbid, the chili cheese hot dog. You must have the intestinal tract of a coal furnace. There’s no way that human beings were created to digest the food served here, and that is why I always find the illest part of humanity at the counter.

So here’s the million dollar question… What the eff is inside a hot dog and why do they taste so damn good? The world may never know.

NYC FLASHING LIGHTS WEEKEND RECAP…

flashing lights

Let the video posted above be a cautionary tale to you as I recount the last 36 hours in detail…

Where do I begin? First off… iLose. I left my wallet on a commuter train. Sucks to be me right now. I can only imagine how all my legitimate identification is being misappropriated.

When I got to the event on Friday evening there was some fugazi character at the door hating on the iNTERNETS CELEBRITIES so we didn’t get inside. How ironic would it have been for me to be swilling free booze on Puma x Yo! MTV RAPS tab after I told them to kiss my ass? Instead the i.C. sidewalk pimped with all the folks stranded outside until we were the only ones left that didn’t get in.

Then the i.C.’s followed the flashing lights to the ‘Feast of San Gennaro’. I think San Gennaro is the patron saint of the zeppole truck. What is banana head about NYC is that every corner you turn on there is something else provacative and exciting going on.

The following videos are dark not because of he content, but because I don’t know how to manage the CyberShot camera. Let’s look at how too many nights in New York City end up… With someone laid the fuck out on the sidewalk.

dth

I fell through an old NYC watering hole hoping to make amends for my poor showing at the Puma sneakers event. Down The Hatch was the Friday after work popoff for a year or two, but not so much anymore. Drunk fratboys have taken over the pool table and the bartenders refused to serve me by literally ignoring me at the counter. WTF is this about?

This is a brand new day in NYC when I’m treated like the shit beneath someone’s shoe, but there it was for me to digest. I left the bar without exchanging any words with any of the bartenders. I didn’t need another drink anyhoo. My cup already runneth over at GABEROCKKA’s birthday party (more on that later).

I continued to walk the streets and resumed my sidewalk pimping. Not sure what I would find when I turned the next corner and there was a gang of drunk Staten Islanders at the corner of Sixth and West 4th. Not too much sidewalk pimping here.

And there’s some more of that nonsense…

When your night ends with you on the courtesy couch of an FDNY ambulance you did not finish off Hip-Hop. You overdosed somewhere along the line. I think I have to rewind my story so that you can see how I came to stumble around Metropolis at four in the morning…

DP DOT COM WEEKEND PREVIEW…

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

dp steele

Get outta the house hotdamnit! With only a couple more weekends left of summer it’s time for you to put your ass in overdrive to find the fun in the sun. Here’s what your boy is cooking up…

The iNTERNETS CELEBRITIES will have their seminal film on Bronx poverty ‘Bodega’ screened before a vegetarian hipster crowd in the lower east side. Not to be snide, but the group screening the picture is one of those community based organizations that believes that even New York City should have healthy, affordable food and green areas for ALL of it’s residents. I believe in that too, but mostly I believe in eating for free and these folks are gonna feed the kid. CHEA!

Brooklyn hasn’t lost yet this summer. Saturday, today, is Fort Greene Day and the park will be filled with live music from a gang of artists. Main event is TALIB KWELI and the party is free to the public. Come out to the park and enjoy all the beautiful people. Fort Greene Park is at Fort Greene Place and DeKalb Avenue. Brooklyn USA.

Sunday will have my main nigga on the SLR trigger, ERNIE PANNICIOLI, previewing his documentary, and reflecting on his thirty plus years as a Hip-Hop photographer. Someone remind me to bring a ‘Kill White Tee’ shirt for ERNIE to wear.

I went to several movies over the last two weeks and if you are thinking about hitting up a film you should fuck with one of these…

SUNSHINE
BOURNE ULTIMATUM
3:10 TO YUMA

All those joints were quality dopeness. Leave these joints off your list…

BALLS OF FURY
DADDY DAY CAMP
RUSH HOUR 3

I suppose that is all for now. I’m out the door and I won’t be home again until Monday. By then we will have a new update for the cRap Music Fantasy League and the DP Dot Football Pool. Have fun party people, be safe, and get out of the fuckin’ house already!

SOUNDCLASH: BATTLE OF THE STEELPAN BANDS…

sesame flyers

^^^ CANDICE is a Sesame Flyer!

One of my favorite traditions of the West Indian Day Parade is the soundclash that takes place starting at Jou’vert. Tons of steelpan bands convene and play some of the best music that you will ever dance to. It’s all about jumping up and spreading out for the masqueraders. Take a look at some of my favorite bands from the parade…
