Happy New Year ‘Trane…

trane

I can remember when I first really heard John Coltrane and how I felt he was on this mission to find God with his instrument. Actually, he had found God and he was looking to constantly commune with God via music.

The human voice is a beautiful instrument and by extension the horns which magnify its radiance. This video clip is a little bit of church and for those that believe its a little bit of heaven. Happy new year John Coltrane.

Sucker For Love…

Monday, September 10th, 2012

Today wasn’t a good Christmas for everyone who loves football.

For Chad Johnson it was like Ebenezer Scrooge came thru and gave him a lump of coal. Chad can put that lump in his chest, right where his heart used to be. If Chad Johnson hadn’t wanted to love the spotlight so badly would he have been Chad Johnson?

Marq Spekt has a track titled ‘Skin Is Thin’ from his EP project ‘Broken Mazes’ with Gary Wilson that I feel describes the place Chad Johnson is living in right now. Evelyn Lozada wasn’t even with Chad when he was shooting the gym. SMH

G.O.O.D. Music Clique should call themselves GMC and do their damnedest to bring General Motors back into the forefront*.
*Provided GMC makes cars that use less gas and get better mileage.

Jay-Z already has his own color blue (Ivy) Denali.

Black Divas Don’t Crack (Jokes)…

I’m loving this webseries as the antidote to the forced minstrelsy of Vh-1s Love & Hip-Hop, Basketball Wives, et al bullshit. The name of the series is called ‘Got 2B Real’ and the shit is heeeee-fuxin’-larious.

Think about a show starring, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Diana Ross, Maya Angelou and a very special guest appearance from Whitney Houston.

This webseries is the zenith of Hot Ass Mess-ness and Wig Ownership.

SEPARATED @ BIRTH: Franklin Armstrong Swag…

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

I went with a little homegrown haircut from Chocolate Snowflake this week. Some people told me that I was channeling Kid. Nah.

Some people thought I was reminiscing on Buggin’ Out from the Spike Lee joint ‘Do The Right Thing’. Still nah.

Buggin’ Out’s twisted lock steez deserves a salute from the classic Brooklyn barbershop KiNapp on DeKalb Avenue. That is prA’Li where Spike had Giancarlo Esposito’s ‘do done.

My cut was inspired by Franklin Armstrong who was a classmate of Peppermint Patty and Marcie. Patty and Marcie were America’s first lesbian couple in mainstream media. Why else was Marcie always calling Patty ‘sir’?

Anyhoo, Franklin was my dude. He was bussed in to a school with all white kids and he didn’t trip. Franklin had a silent swag, plus Peppermint Patty held him dddddown.
