Police Brutality Isn’t Just For Poor Blacks…

Remember when only the poor Black would get shot up by the police? Shout out to Rudolph Giuliani. Those were the good ol’ days of police brutality. Those murders would be swept under the rug easily because frankly, who cares about poor Blacks? Police brutality has become more problematic recently because now working class and even middle class Blacks are having their wigs pushed back. That’s Hip-Hop jargon for being murdered.

Is Hip-Hop to blame for law enforcement officer’s attitudes towards young Black males? I suppose Hip-Hop could be the scapegoat if you were lazy and didn’t feel like truly examining the attitudes that these armed officers have with their unarmed victims. For crying out loud, Oscar Grant was in handcuffs and in a prone position when he was murdered by the police.

Like Sean Bell, the latest victim Danroy Henry Jr. was in his vehicle when his life was taken. The earliest news reports claimed that he was using his vehicle as a weapon against officers, but the passengers in the car state otherwise. This was the mistake of the cops by not killing everyone in the car. Three Black males in a vehicle is normally grounds for three funerals. Let God and the lawyers sort out the details is the standard operating procedure.

So now that even Black male college students aren’t immune from the sting of the police state where can a young Black man go to find some equity and peace of mind in the great land called America?

Apparently only in a cemetery.

tv addict

You don’t realize how many people are addicted to television until that shit gets taken away from them. People in New York and New Jersey were shitting themselves yesterday because the Fox affiliates programming had been ‘de-licensed’ from their local cable television provider.

Its easy to posit News Corporation, the owner of Fox networks and their affiliates for making their demands too great to the cable companies that license their content. Fox also went the grimy route by suspended their internet sites from those using the cable television provider’s browsers.

For someone like myself who is immersed in the interconnected networks all this chicanery means very little to me. There’s a stream of torrents for me to catch the wave with if I really needed to view Fox’ programming. But I didn’t. And I survived. I would have loved to watch professional football or the MLB playoffs but instead I went for a walk in Central Park.

Instead of playing the ‘Who Shot John’ game with the networks or the cable TV provider I turned them both off.

Anyone know who won yesterday?

I did.

What if Donovan McNabb or heaven forbid Michael Vick had sent lewd and lascivious text messages to the female pictured above? Those dudes might would get lynched. Why is Brett Favre any different than those two quarterbacks? Well, I know why Brett Favre is different, but I want to act like America is the kind of place where people are judged by their actions towards others and no other mitigating factors.

The woman above is a former Playboy Playmate and was co-host of the New York Jets pre-game show during the season Favre was the Jets’ QB. Favre was into sending this hottie nude pics of his johnson (no magic) and hitting up her MySpace page as if her was a high school stalker. Instead of worrying so much about touching down in this girl’s end zone he should have helped the Jets score more.

Brett Farve’s wife just went through breast cancer surgery. She lost her both her tittays to cancer. Is this how he comforts his wife and children during their time of need? Does that douchebag even know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month?!?

Brett Favre is a super selfish dude. He has had a charmed life where no one has told him ‘NO’ since he has shown he could throw a football a mile. People like Favre and Vick are the way they are because we endorse and co-sign their bullshit.

Favre should sit himself down now.

Not for the fans sake, but for his family’s sake.

workers rally

I went to D.C. this weekend to rally for the rights of the American worker. Not just the rank and file of unionized folks which I am a part of, but the non-union and even undocumented peoples who all combine to help give us a quality of life unlike any other place on this Earth.

What I have come to learn about Americans is that we are all strange and somewhat selfish in our particular ways. There are pundits and politicians who hold rallies designed to break the backs of unions. Without these unions many of us would be without healthcare and retirement benefits. But some of the unions fail to acknowledge the scores of workers who don’t form unions because they lack the leverage with their employer.

The American worker is in crisis. I can’t begin to tell you how much of the manufacturing which occurs in the United States is performed by prison inmates. The only sector which remains for us to work through is the ‘service’ component. We all can’t be waiters and waitresses while others manufacture the goods we consume. Something will have to give sooner than later.

In the meantime, make sure you visit the polls in November and let your voice be heard that you support ALL workers in America.
