Jig Lit Review: DAMON MOSLEY

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

I was sent this book from a fellow Internets. He wrote the story in 2008 and I found it to be more than just a contemporary story but one that dates back to my childhood also.

We are a society of consumers, and mostly conspicuous consumers at that. We are indoctrinated into the consumerist culture at a very early age. The language we have been taught is then turned against us.

We are made to feel incomplete without the acquisition of ‘things’. All things. This short story follows a young boy’s quest to acquire an item that he hopes will make him a better person. In the end, we see that his journey is what makes him whole and not the item. As soon as I have a child this will be part of the bedtime storytime rotation.

hobo sneakerfiend

Time for another episode of Hobo Sneakerfiends. In this episode we see the LeBRON 8 ‘Cool Greys’.

I wonder if that is LeBron James sleeping on the train wearing his signature sneakers?

Anybody can buy some shit out of the store. You walk in the store and then you buy some shit. Not too many heads can build a ‘fit. That shit takes patience and style. You might spend a few years putting items together for the perfect ‘fit. Sometimes it all comes together quickly and simply.

I’ve been fuxing with this PRL series called ‘Aberdare’ named after the wildlife preserve in Kenya. I wonder if Ralph Lauren styled these dudes? LOL.

The series has me on my safari expedition lifestyle hardbody. Which is also fun since I’m fuxing with Timberland a lot thru the summer.

So the ‘fit I’ve assembled is on some game warden shit. Check the technique…

My lady bought me some of these underwear from Target. The Batman joints are official. I wear them whenever I have on my Batman t-shirt.

I’m just glad she didn’t give me the Flash underwear. LOL

Polo Ralph Lauren clothing is all about the aspiration for being something greater than you are. For being classier, for being worldlier, for being a better athlete. That dude from the Dos Equis commercials, he wears ONLY Polo Ralph Lauren.

So when news outlets began reporting on the trend for Mexican youth to crave these items as an imitation of the high profile drug traffickers who were caught wearing these shirts they quickly missed the point.

Polo Ralph Lauren is crafted to describe wealth. The kind of wealth that even drug traffickers aspire to attain. Think about who in the world plays the sport of polo? Kings and royalty and the uber-riche. Yeah, the same rich fux who compete in yacht races.

For working class and poor people alike we dream of one day living a lifestyle so lavish and leisurely that we might not be able to wait until it finally happens. Donning a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, or in the most extreme cases of poverty, a bootleg version, gives us that tiny little bit of status we need to get thru our miserable lives.
