Cookie Monster Lifestyle…

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

The Uni badge and the Cookie patch are my favorite all time Polo Ralph Lauren insignias. Mainly because you had to be extra thorough to own them in New York City. No clowns or suckas were rocking those I.T.s in the 1980s. Nowadays I can’t call it, but at the same time I’m glad we don’t live in those times anymore. Some might argue that we still do after the recent spate of violence surrounding the Air Foamposite sneakers.

The Uni and Cookie designs features garments in dazzling sport colorways. True blue, racer red, sport yellow colorblocked to perfection. The Polo USA embroidery on the sleeves or chest is what set these pieces off. From time to time I see them on eBay in extra schmedium sizes. Ralph Lauren needs to retro these old patches I.T.s like right now.

The Block Is Hot…

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Aliens are the new (old) boogeymen. When you need that go-to bad guy extraterrestrials serve as a handy stand-in for Black men and arabs. With that premise the producers of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’ have made a thoroughly entertaining earthlings vs. aliens summer feature.

Attack The Block has the right amount of gore, machismo and comedy to make it worth your time when it hits theatres at the end of the month. Vicious aliens come to Brixton neighborhood apartment complex and get more than they bargained for from a local band of juvenile delinquents.

The lead character is a 15yr old Black kid. This movie could not have been produced in America because of our relationship to young Black males. In Europe its a lot different. Well maybe not a lot different, but the neighborhood where the movie was set is mixed racially, just not economically.

The juvees are a motley crew of mixed race kids led by a Black dude. Watching a young Black male in a motion picture go from thug to hero and still maintain his thug style was worth my every viewing minute. Cool off for a few this summer and peep this hot flick.

evolution

Editor’s note: Our homey cocotaso gives us this drop which is like a wake up call to New Balance and other brands on why evolution isn’t always a good thing…

I usually look towards New Balance as a quality/heritage driven brand. Creating classically designed shoes, made with decades worth of craftsmanship and top notch materials being the hallmarks of their brand. So like Reh Dogg “why must I cry”?. Well, its because New Balance has decided to seemingly forget all that history and join the ranks of Nike and adidas by making a mockery of a beloved model for the sake of updating it.

So here we have the offending shoe the 1574, New Balance’s attempt at creating a “fusion” or “remix”. or as I like to say 2000ing it. Even though we are well into this millennium 2000 still stands to me as the year of all things futuristic. I say stop the madness and stay true to what you do. How can you mess up the perfect all grey 574? This is how…

nb 1574
nb 1574
nb 1574

No need for convict stripes, sonic welding and a ridiculously large heel cup. and when not on sale, they cost almost twice as much as a common 574. No thanks New Balance. What’s next air bubbles and teddy bear heads on the tongues? People like you because they know they can turn to you

In this era of pink cement print fusions and dirty vans authentics and have something respectable on their feet. It aint broke, so don’t try to fix it. just give us a 997 already, or at least make the 1500 with the old mold.

Peace,

Cocotaso
