Guatemala Pays High Price For Global Food System Failings

The ICs are plotting a film that looks at the agricultural industrial complex here in America. The fast rising price of food is a cause for our concern. It won’t be too long where the wealthy America is the land of the impoverished and the malnourished.

I just hope we won’t need to wear bulletproof vests to finish our movie.

Wu-Tang Is 4 EVER!

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Listening to Odd Future makes me want to hear some shit with sick lyrics and masterful musical soundscapes. Enter The 36 Chambers never gets old for me. Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Return to the 36 might be my favorite Wu album of all time.

O.D.B. was such a special artist because he was strong enough to be vulnerable. Smart enough to act stupid. And pure enough to be dirty. Add the Raekwon featuring Ghostface Killah epic OB4CL and you have possibly the holy trinity of NYC rap.

I loved reading this book written by the homey Alvin Blanco (@Aqua174) because it’s a chronological history of Hip-Hop’s most groundbreaking and futuristic collective. You get to learn about the backstories behind all of the group’s legendary discography

The book is written from years of exhaustive research to speak directly from the voices of the Wu-Tang members. If you don’t mind being called a Wu-Tang stan then you won’t mind this collection of quotes and footnotes detailing RZA and the group’s history since the early days of Prince Rakeem and the Genius.

If books are the new millennium CD’s then The Wu-Tang Clan and The RZA is definitely a platinum plaque for your bookshelf.

Rap’s Future Is Very Odd…

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Off all the youth movements that Hip-Hop has pushed out in the new millennium, OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) is prA’li the one which will transcend the constraints of rap music. Mainly because they are comprised of visionary artists who are also distinct personalities. When was the last time a Hip-Hop group had more than a half dozen rappers who could ALL rhyme?

They remind me of the Wu-Tang Clan because they are led by a forcefully determined character. For the Wu it was the RZA, for Odd Future it is Tyler the Creator. Tyler’s debut album ‘Goblin’ is the cement for his generation’s disaffected listeners. It’s not a challenging album musically, but lyrically it represents like a Generation-X Redman meets KanYe West with some Eminem mixed in for shits and giggles.

The ‘X’ in Gen-X is for ecstasy, and Odd Future is their future.

Here’s some footage I caught during OFWGKTA show at Highline Ballroom.
