First Round Draft Pick Rap…

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

You knew this shit was coming and here it is. Action Bronson continues the winning streak with another project that goes hard in the paint. Party Supplies gives Action the types of grooves he really like to splash off with. Jazzy and hard like Tommy Mas, but with just a little extra bounce.

Don’t be confused into thinking that Party Supplies can’t body a beat just because he is from the Fool’s Gold camp. Hipsters like their rappy songs hard too. Danny Brown anyone? I wish I was in Austin to mash out with the Outdoorsmen clan for the SxSW festivities, but hearing this tape has me amped to get ready for Meyhem Lauren’s next project.

The flood continues…

Rock, Sk8, Roll, Bouuuunce!

My homey from The Shoe Game, G-Roc invited me to go rollersk8’g at the Atlanta hotspot called Cascade. This is the joint which was highlighted in the movie ‘Roll, Bounce’. Sunday night is the popoff at Cascade when all the college heads and young people get they roller boogie right. Sure enough the crowd was ready to ‘TURN UP’ (newest Atlanta lingo for going ham).

I haven’t sk8’d since the closing of the Empire roller rink in Brooklyn so I was a bit rusty, actually dusty, but I finally got around the rink with my stiff leg technique. It was fun to watch the sk8rz go in on their favorite jams. The deejay was spinning strictly southern rap and when the hottest song in Atlanta dropped the whole rink got on the floor to ‘TURN UP’.

A few months back I was invited to host a Taz Arnold showcase at Tammany Hall. I was surprised that I got the invite but I can thank the homey Meyhem Lauren who was cool with the show promoters and respects my Polo steez. Taz Arnold set the Polo Ralph Lauren collecting world on fire when he repurposed his archive of holy grail I.T.’s into the project he called ‘The Americans‘.

The Americans was at first perverse to me because I thought it mocked some of the items which people tried to acquire and would subsequently defend with their everlasting manhood. It wasn’t until I met Taz in person, and saw some of the pieces firsthand where it all made sense to me. The Americans isn’t a mockery, but a celebration. Taz Arnold is a fucking iconoclast. He is Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Ralph Lauren and Karl Lagerfeld with the Blackness of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Willi Smith.

I chilled in Taz’ hotel room at the Hudson Hotel for a few hours and kicked it with him about his motivations for fashion, music and style. It’s crazy that you watch this dude from the prism of social media and think that maybe he is wrong for his shit. Maybe he’s forcing his shit?. Nope. This dude is more centered and focused than 99.9% of the people who you might look to for artistic inspiration. Taz Arnold doesn’t play that safe lane because he’s been doing his thing for at least twenty years.

That blew my mind. Taz Arnold was more like me than I would have cared to admit before we had this meeting. I privately gave him props for pulling MCM from the vintage dustbin and making that shit hot again, but I secretly thought he might have lucked up with that move. Nah, Internets. Taz Arnold is locked in on that future funk flow flavor. You might will not be able to understand what his doing right now with this latest musical project.

Taz calls it ‘rAd AmericA‘ and this shit is nuts. File this under future vintage cocaine blow flow bounce.

A Letter From The Management…

Atlanta what is GOOD?!

I’m back in the basement for ‘dukes birthday and I’m taking a minute to recharge my programme. The game has gotten crazy for me in the last few months. The Internets Celebs movement has fallen off, but Sneaker Fiends Unite! is taking off. I’m still not making any bread, but at least I’m getting free sneakers. That’s gotta count for something?

I’m still overdue to self-publish my story ‘The Transformation’. I’m looking for the passion to finish that project. I just got the idea to read some of the classic drops on these pages to remind myself why I do this thing in the first place. Hopefully I’ll find my original voice in those stories. I’m searching Internets. I’m searching…

In the meantime and in between time I’m gonna try and make the jump from Atlanta to Austin (via San Antonio, what up Jerz?!?) for the South by Southwest goings ons. Looks like its gonna be a supreme clusterfuck in Texas for that festival. The ICs tried to crack that scene for a couple of years, but we couldn’t get any love from the SxSW organizers. Some people just don’t like the way we use the word ‘Internets’.

Here’s the part of the show every 6 months where I remind y’all to click on the PrA’li button over to the right of this page. Your contribution to the PrA’li fund isn’t simply to establish the word PrA’li as the logical replacement for the outdated word ‘probably’, but your donation will help send me to the SxSW festival AND more importantly I will also buy a human genome stem cell incubator so that I can start production of my DP.com blogging clones.

Get Ready For Combat…

It never stops.

I’m in Atlanta, but the Combat Jack Show rocks on with special guest Young Guru and the rest of the funky bunch.

Another classic episode, as always.
