Trickle Down Is All But Dried Up…

Monday, June 27th, 2011

The U.S. economy is still stumbling along and the analysts are saying that it is because of slumping car sales!?! Like, duh, because there are NO jobs, and no one has any money to buy a car.

The U.S. economy will continue to shrink as long as the wealthiest top tier of Americans continue to receive all of the cash. The only thing that will be trickling down to the working class will be the urination from the penthouse airies.

Jig Lit Review: RANDY DuBURKE

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

I’m pulling out all the books, or rather graphic novels that I have received via snail mailed from my friends. I love trading stuff to people via snail mail. My homegirl Digital Femme received an Adult Swim sweatshirt from me and in return she issued me the above book illustrated by comic book artist Randy DuBurke.

The autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley might be the most important book I have ever read next to Shel Silverstein’s ‘The Giving Tree’ and Anthony Burgess’ ‘A Clockwork Orange’. I think this graphic novel will bring a new audience to the story of Malcolm X, who was the last great Black superhero. It’s fitting that Malcolm’s life was adapted into a graphic novel by artist Randy DuBurke because he has a history of illustrating the heroes we are familiar with under the DC Comics banner.

DuBurke’s minimalist style reminds me of Bill Sienkewicz and his drawings which are quite trippy and impressionistic. DuBurke underlays archival photographs so that his embellishment gives a realistic appearance. This graphic novel isn’t meant to look like a comic book even tho’ it is laid out like one panelwise. Malcolm X’s story is that real and I love looking at DuBurke’s treatment of this everlasting African American king.

Happy Juneteenth Internets…

Can you imagine the news of negroidian emancipation being broadcast via the internets?

Reservations In The Sky: Chicago Public Housing…

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

Apartment buildings were seen as futuristic living spaces when designed by architects like Le Corbusier for European cities. People appear happy and efficient living in tiny compartmentalized spaces in Tokyo. But in America, high rise apartment buildings were conscripted for future purposes also, but in the sense of state-run reservations where the working class and poor people were regarded.

The high rise apartment building uses a minimum development of acreage. This confined border is supposed to save on facility maintenance. In regard to Chicago’s public housing, a court case proved that even more money on development was saved by using sub-par construction materials. The fact that Cabrini-Green stood for as long as it did was a testament to the experienced contractors who built those towers with the crappy materials they were provided.

As poverty overcame the public housing communities in Chicago the crime rate rose exponentially. Cabrini-Green closely resembled a dilapidated prison bloc before it was finally razed by the Chicago Housing Authority. Unemployment and poverty still dominate the rolls of public housing residents in the Windy City. In an attempt to reduce the crime rate within it’s properties the Chicago Housing Authority is implementing a controversial program for it’s residents.

Chicago Housing Authority Wants to Require Drug Testing for Residents

This new policy is said to give reassurance that the new mixed-income developments the CHA is building won’t have the same culture that plagued the previous projects. But as long as poverty remains and the housing authority specifies shoddy construction materials then we’ll witness another reservation in the sky.
