Money Makin’ Jam Boyz – ‘Tear It Up’

tear it up

STS murders this track. I mean he MURDERS this track. Everyone else goes in but not as glorious which makes me think this track was meant to highlight STS.

The Money Makin’ Jam Boyz are SlaughterHouse with less angst and better tailoring. The production I have heard from Khari Mateen suits Dice Raw best. I’m still waiting on Truck North to step out from behind the shadows cast by the Roots vets.

Don’t sleep tho’, Black Thought is still one of the slickest with the wordplay. I like how he stretched necklace and reckless into three(3) syllable words. This is a decent single from the MMJB, but they better bring some of that Cliff Lee Philadelphia heat if they want to take over the game.

Rebel Rap Rock Music…

game rebellion

Rock and roll has been awaiting the coming of Game Rebellion for a long time: An all Black, all outta Brooklyn band whose metal, punk and rudeboy skanking licks sound as credible and crunchy as their Hip-Hop lyrics and head-bobbing bounce. Game makes the difficult sound effortless and the miraculous seem second nature: A hard rock band with a B-boy MC who can actually spit? No problem. A street worthy mixtape of hiphop anthems created by a band that actually rocks and flows? No problem.

Game Rebellion has been making big waves on the New York Afro-punk/Black Rock scene for about three years. In that short time they’ve ventured out even further out to slam heads rock houses and muddy the lilywhite waters of alt-rock from NYC and Cali to Puerto Rico and the UK. They just may be the best-kept secret in music right now (their vaunted endorsement sealed with a kiss from Sade notwithstanding).

A band of rowdy brothers with higher education pedigrees — Yohimbe and Netic have college paper, Chief Med is a qualified acupuncturist. They’ve got skills on the mic with book learned brains and aren’t afraid if today’s dumb and dumbered-down Hip-Hop knows it. The rebels are no strangers to the classroom, the rehearsal studio, the protest line or as one might suspect, the police.

So when are you gonna give their brand of gangsta-militancy a listen?

True Grit Kicks Ass…

true grit

From some of the trailers I had watched I imagined ‘True Grit’ was going to be like ‘Kick Ass’ except it would staged in the old west. I thoroughly enjoyed both films but ‘True Grit’ was more Shakespeare on the range than samurai on the run. This movie is already at the top of my 2011 list. Thor and Transformers are going to really have to blow me down [ll] to take the crown away from this flick.

The language that fills this movie was both entertaining and educational. The Coen brothers direction of Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Barry pepper and Josh Brolin was phenomenal, but the movie belonged to Hailee Steinfeld who was the character with the most grit and determination in the film.

Jeff Bridges is the Ghostface Killah of cinema stars. He consistently does classic work, but is always overlooked for the Pacinos and DeNiros in the game. ‘Big Lebowski’ and ‘Starman’ should be on your all-time top 100 movies list, and I put ‘The Fisher King’ on my top 20. ‘True Grit’ just earned a space on the all-time list thanks to Bridges gristled, gnarled, gritty portrayal of US marshal seeking glory and the respect of a young girl.
